Metal fatigue, characterized by the accumulation of dislocation defects, is a prevalent failure mode in structural materials. Nondestructive early-stage detection of metal fatigue is extremely important to prevent disastrous events and protect human life. However, the lack of a precise quantitative method to visualize fatigue with spatiotemporal resolution poses a significant obstacle to timely detection.

Plasmon resonance plays an important role in improving the detection of biomolecules, and it is one of the focuses of research to use metal plasmon resonance to achieve fluorescence enhancement and to improve detection sensitivity. However, the problems of nondynamic tuning and fluorescence quenching of metal plasmon resonance need to be solved. Graphene surface plasmon resonance can be dynamically controlled, and the graphene adsorption of fluorescent molecules can avoid fluorescence quenching and greatly improve the fluorescence emission intensity.

Background: Personality traits, especially neuroticism, can influence susceptibility to dementia. Although social contact can mitigate stress and risk of dementia, the extent to which social contact can mitigate excess risk associated with neuroticism remains unclear. The objective of study was to investigate changes in neuroticism-associated excess risk of dementia arising from different levels of social contact.

Herein, a one-pot domino catalyzed three-component process is described, which is initiated by a palladium/zinc cooperatively catalyzed cycloaddition between trimethylenemethane (TMM) and unactivated alkyl/aryl imines, followed by one-pot isomerization and Zn(OTf)-catalyzed DDQ oxidation, furnishing valuable substituted pyrroles. We disclose that the palladium/zinc cooperative catalysis affords a dual-Zn(OTf)-stabilized azapalladacycle, wherein the Pd-N bond is polarized by Zn(OTf), facilitating a unique outer-sphere allylic amination. Moreover, subsequent DDQ dehydrogenation can be feasibly promoted by zinc catalysis.

Objective: Elevated systolic blood pressure and increased pulse pressure are closely associated with renal damage; however, the exact mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated the effects of increased pulse pressure on tubulointerstitial fibrosis and renal damage in elderly rats with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH). Additionally, the role of renal tubular epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and its upstream signalling pathways were elucidated.

The bipyridyl tantalum complex (2,6-PrCHO)Ta(bipy) () is synthesized by the reaction of (2,6-PrCHO)TaCl () and 2,2'-bipyridine in the presence of excess potassium graphite (KC). Complex coordinates readily with pyridine and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (dmap) to form Lewis base adducts (2,6-PrCHO)Ta(bipy)(L) (L = py (), dmap ()), and it exhibits rich redox reactivity toward small molecules: (a) single electron transfer (SET) occurs upon exposure of to phenyl sulfide or selenide dimer, giving the open-shell, bipy-centered radical complexes (2,6-PrCHO)Ta(bipy)(PhE) (E = S (), Se ()). (b) Regioselective C-C σ-bond formation via radical coupling is observed in the SET reaction of and aldehydes, ketones, or imines to furnish insertion products -, namely, sterically more crowded benzophenone, acetophenone, 2,6-dichlorobenzaldehyde, and benzophenone imine couple with C6 or C6' of bipy in , respectively, whereas sterically less hindered benzaldehyde, cyclohexanone, and benzylideneaniline couple with C2 or C2' of bipy, respectively.

The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in anxiety regulation through pathways involving neurotransmitter production, immune signaling, and metabolic interactions. Among these, gut-derived serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), synthesized from tryptophan metabolism, has been identified as a key mediator. However, it remains unclear whether specific microbial factors regulate tryptophan metabolism to influence 5-HT production and anxiety regulation.

The accuracy and efficiency of a coarse-grained (CG) force field are pivotal for high-precision molecular simulations of large systems with complex molecules. We present an automated mapping and optimization framework for molecular simulation (AMOFMS), which is designed to streamline and improve the force field optimization process. It features a neural-network-based mapping function, DSGPM-TP (deep supervised graph partitioning model with type prediction).

Listening to the voices of people with dementia and understanding their perception of the surrounding world is one of the keys to providing person-centred care in daily practice. The care not only focuses on the specific knowledge and skills but also the proper caring attitude towards dementia. Stigma is still severe in Hong Kong, and the implementation of dementia-inclusive language is not practical due to the lack of education in this aspect.

Clinical trials are crucial to contemporary medicine, offering valuable insights into the safety, efficacy, and appropriate use of new treatments. They contribute to public health improvements, reduce healthcare costs, uncover new understandings of disease biology, and facilitate the development of therapies for rare conditions. Investing in clinical trials is therefore essential for advancing medical science and enhancing patient outcomes globally.

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) has been attracting much extensive interest owing to their advantages of high-definition and flexible displays. Many advances have been focused on boosting the efficiency and stability. Two innovative dimethylacridine-based emitters,1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4- (2,7-di-tert-butyl-9,9-dimethylacridin-10(9H)-yl)phenyl ethene (AcTPE), and bis(4-(2,7-di-tert-butyl-9,9-dimethylacridin-10(9H)-yl)phenyl)methanone (Ac2BP) were designed and synthesized, in which TPE-baesed AcTPE presents AIE properties, and with the phenyl as spacer between the DMAC and carbony, aryl-ketone-based Ac2BP doesn't show AIE properties due to the absence of restriction of intramolecular rotations.

Background: Older adults with cognitive impairments will benefit from multicomponent interventions include cognitive training, exercise, and lifestyle modifications. However, many existing digital therapeutic products predominantly focus on computerized cognitive training, lacking effective approaches to other crucial interventions. We proposed a multidimensional comprehensive cognitive intervention training program - Brain and Body Rehab Training (BBRT), which integrates multidomain cognitive training with physical-cognitive training and multidimensional lifestyle interventions and developed the digital therapeutic product - BBRT-online based on WeChat mini-program.

Background: We currently lack in the dementia field accurate, noninvasive, quick, and affordable screening tools for brain dysfunctions associated with early subtle risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Our Kentucky aging cohort demonstrates that asymptomatic older individuals with MCI-like frontal memory-related brainwave patterns convert to MCI within a short 5-year period, as opposed to individuals with NC-like patterns (1) that remain normal 10 years later (2). Astrocyte reactivity influences amyloid-ß effects on tau pathology in preclinical Alzheimer's disease (3).
