DNA methylation is known to be associated with cataracts. In this study, we used a mouse model and performed DNA methylation and transcriptome sequencing analyses to find epigenetic indicators for age-related cataracts (ARC). Anterior lens capsule membrane tissues from young and aged mice were analyzed by MethylRAD-seq to detect the genome-wide methylation of extracted DNA.

Endometrial cancer (UCEC) is the most prevalent gynecological malignancy in high-income countries, and its incidence is rising globally. Although early-stage UCEC can be treated with surgery, advanced cases have a poor prognosis, highlighting the need for effective molecular biomarkers to improve diagnosis and prognosis. In this study, we analyzed mRNA and miRNA sequencing data from UCEC tissues and adjacent non-cancerous tissues from the TCGA database.

Selection and optimization of drive nodes in drive-response networks.

Chaos

January 2025

College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Shenzhen University, Guangdong 518060, China.

This paper considers the selection and optimization of drive nodes based on the controllability of multilayer networks. The intra-layer network topologies are arbitrary, and the node dynamics are linear time-invariant dynamical systems. The study focuses on the number and selection of drive nodes in a special class of drive-response networks.

Background: Ankle sprain is a common clinical disease, which has the highest incidence rate among joint and ligament injuries. And acute ankle sprains can easily develop into chronic ankle instability, thereby increasing the difficulty of treatment. The current clinical guidelines for post-acute ankle sprains are still controversial.

Poly-gamma-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) is mainly synthesized by glutamate-dependent strains in the manufacturing industry. Therefore, understanding glutamate-dependent mechanisms is imperative. In this study, we first systematically analyzed the response of Bacillus subtilis SCP017-03 to glutamate addition by comparing transcriptomics and proteomics.

One of the primary challenges faced by small rubbing filament machines is the significant variability in material sizes, particularly in the feeding direction. This variability complicates the processing of locally baled straw with a single device. To address this issue, an adjustable feeding and bale-breaking device was developed and tested to enhance the filamentous performance of baled straw.

ISLRWR: A network diffusion algorithm for drug-target interactions prediction.

PLoS One

January 2025

Shanghai Xinhao Information Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai, China.

Machine learning techniques and computer-aided methods are now widely used in the pre-discovery tasks of drug discovery, effectively improving the efficiency of drug development and reducing the workload and cost. In this study, we used multi-source heterogeneous network information to build a network model, learn the network topology through multiple network diffusion algorithms, and obtain compressed low-dimensional feature vectors for predicting drug-target interactions (DTIs). We applied the metropolis-hasting random walk (MHRW) algorithm to improve the performance of the random walk with restart (RWR) algorithm, forming the basis by which the self-loop probability of the current node is removed.

Interfered by external factors, the receptive field limits the traditional CNN multispectral remote sensing building change detection method. It is difficult to obtain detailed building changes entirely, and redundant information is reused in the encoding stage, which reduces the feature representation and detection performance. To address these limitations, we design a Siamese network of shared attention aggregation to learn the detailed semantics of buildings in multispectral remote sensing images.

Alvarezsauria is a group of morphologically distinctive, medium- to small-sized later-diverging coelurosaurian theropod dinosaurs, whose record ranges from the Late Jurassic to the Late Cretaceous. This clade had a widespread distribution in Laurasia in what is now Europe, Asia, and North America, although there are also several Cretaceous taxa from Gondwana in what is now Argentina that all belong to the family Alvarezsauridae. Although alvarezsaurid taxonomic diversity and anatomical knowledge has expanded over the last decade, alvarezsaurid internal phylogenetic relationships remain highly debated.

Objective: The current investigation sought to elucidate the prevalence and contributing factors of sedentary behavior among pregnant women in Macao, a densely populated region characterized by a distinctive fusion of Eastern and Western cultures and a thriving global economy.

Methods: Through a cross-sectional study design, a total of 306 expectant mothers were recruited via various social media platforms and completed a sociodemographic questionnaire alongside the Chinese version of the Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire.

Results: The findings revealed that sedentary activities accounted for a relatively small proportion (7.

Soil moisture is the core of the hydrological cycle in agroecosystems, and most of the studies on soil moisture dynamics modeling adopt deterministic research methods, which are not well suited to study the hydrological processes in agricultural fields under changing conditions. Therefore, the present study adopts a stochastic approach to reveal the distribution characteristics of soil moisture in agroecosystems under the effects of soil, climate, vegetation, and other influencing factors. Using soil moisture and precipitation data and based on a stochastic model of soil moisture dynamics, the point-scale soil moisture dynamic characteristics and soil moisture probability density function of farmland systems in the Songnen Plain region were investigated.

Personalized sports training plans are essential for addressing individual athlete needs, but traditional methods often need to integrate diverse data types, limiting adaptability and effectiveness. Existing machine learning (ML) and rule-based approaches cannot dynamically generate context-specific training programs, reducing their applicability in real-world scenarios. This study aims to develop a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN)- based framework to create context-specific training plans by integrating numeric attributes (e.

The incidence of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is increasing annually, and timely diagnostic and treatments can substantially improve patient survival rates. AML typing traditionally relies on manual microscopy for classifying and counting myeloid cells, which is time-consuming, laborious, and subjective. Therefore, developing a reliable automated model for myeloid cell classification is imperative.

Interleukin-34 (IL-34) was recently reported to be a new biomarker for atherosclerosis diseases, such as coronary artery disease and vascular dementia. IL-34 regulates the expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-17A, IL-1 and IL-6), which are classical cytokines involved in myocardial ischemia‒reperfusion (MI/R) injury. However, the exact role of IL-34 in MI/R remains unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the temperature sensitivity of runways in permafrost regions and proposes a parallel perforated ventilation subgrade to improve cooling.
  • The finite element model used was validated against previous research, demonstrating the cooling effectiveness of the new subgrade design.
  • Results indicate significant cooling effects on pavement temperatures over time, while air velocity and working time primarily impact the crushed rock layer and subgrade temperature rather than the surface layer.

The built environment is an important determinant of travel demand and mode choice. Studying the relationship between the built environment and transportation usage can support and assist traffic policy interventions. Previous studies often assumed that this relationship is linear; however, the impact of the built environment on non-motorized travel efficiency may be more complex than the typically modeled linear relationships.
