The study of the multifaceted interactions between neuroscience and cancer is an emerging field with significant implications for understanding tumor biology and the innovation in therapeutic approaches. Increasing evidence suggests that neurological functions are connected with tumorigenesis. In particular, the peripheral and central nervous systems, synapse, neurotransmitters, and neurotrophins affect tumor progression and metastasis through various regulatory approaches and the tumor immune microenvironment.

Recently, there has been growing interest in the role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in the progression of human cancers. Cellular senescence, a known anti-tumour mechanism, has been observed in several types of cancer. However, the regulatory interplay of circRNAs with cellular senescence in pancreatic cancer (PC) is still unknown.

Background: Nemonoxacin is a new quinolone with an antibacterial efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Certain sequence types (STs) have been emerging in Taiwan, including fluoroquinolone-resistant ST8/USA300. It's an urgent need to determine nemonoxacin susceptibility against ST8/USA300 and other emerging lineages, if any.

Background: Laparoscopic-assisted single-port mediastinoscopic esophagectomy is a safe and effective emerging minimally invasive esophagectomy, but little has been reported about the learning curve for this technology. The goal of the study was to determine the number of procedures to achieve different levels of proficiency on the learning curve.
Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed data from consecutive surgeries performed by the same surgeon at the same center from 2016 to 2021.

Background: PRDX2 is significantly expressed in various cancers and is associated with the proliferation of tumor cells. Nonetheless, the precise mechanism of PRDX2 in tumor immunity remains incompletely understood. This study aims to investigate the impact of PRDX2, which is highly expressed in lung adenocarcinoma, on T cells in the tumor immune microenvironment, and its immune action target to promote the immune escape of lung cancer cells, to provide a theoretical basis for lung adenocarcinoma treatment with PRDX2 as the target.

Background: As cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality increase yearly, this study aimed to explore the potential of the weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI) and its relation to long-term mortality in patients with CVD.
Methods: The diagnosis of CVD was based on standardized medical condition questionnaires that incorporated participants' self-reported physician diagnoses. WWI (cm/√kg) is a continuous variable and calculated as waist circumference (WC, cm) divided by square root of body weight (kg).

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in predicting mortality and guiding healthcare decisions. However, AI models may perpetuate or exacerbate existing health disparities due to demographic biases, particularly affecting racial and ethnic minorities. The objective of this study is to investigate the demographic biases in AI models predicting COVID-19 mortality and to assess the effectiveness of transfer learning in improving model fairness across diverse demographic groups.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene mutations can lead to distant metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). When the primary NSCLC lesions are removed or cannot be sampled, the EGFR status of the metastatic lesions are the potential alternative method to reflect EGFR mutations in the primary NSCLC lesions. This review aimed to evaluate the potential of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics based on extrapulmonary metastases in predicting EGFR mutations through a systematic reviews and meta-analysis.

The case of Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) combined with tophi due to gout is rarely reported. In the course of our clinic work, we encountered a young male patient who was diagnosed with a history of gout for 5 years and was targeted as LSS combined with gouty tophi, and we would like to share this case. In addition, in order to further investigate the deep mechanism of LSS associated with gout, we obtained the intersecting genes of the two diseases based on a machine learning approach by obtaining the dataset GSE113212 related to LSS from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, and the genes related to gout from the human gene database.
