Hypoxic tumors present a significant challenge in cancer therapy due to their ability to adaptation in low-oxygen environments, which supports tumor survival and resistance to treatment. Enhanced mitophagy, the selective degradation of mitochondria by autophagy, is a crucial mechanism that helps sustain cellular homeostasis in hypoxic tumors. In this study, we develop an azocalix[4]arene-modified supramolecular albumin nanoparticle, that co-delivers hydroxychloroquine and a mitochondria-targeting photosensitizer, designed to induce cascaded oxidative stress by regulating mitophagy for the treatment of hypoxic tumors.

Background And Aims: Patients receiving statin therapy still suffer from adverse cardiovascular events. Metabolic (dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a newly proposed concept that shares common metabolic risk factors with cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to investigate the association between MAFLD and adverse cardiovascular outcomes in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients with LDL-C<1.

Background And Aims: Numerous studies have evaluated the association between baseline uric acid (UA) and heart failure (HF) outcomes. The impact of longitudinal UA on HF survival remains unknown. We aim to investigate the association between different parameterizations of longitudinal UA measurements and survival outcomes in HF patients.

Viral infections of the central nervous system (CNS) have been emerging and re-emerging worldwide, and the Australasia region has not been spared. Enterovirus A71 and enterovirus D68, both human enteroviruses, are likely to replace the soon-to-be eradicated poliovirus to cause global outbreaks associated with neurological disease. Although prevalent elsewhere, the newly emergent orthoflavivirus, Japanese encephalitis virus (genotype IV), caused human infections in Australia in 2021, and almost certainly will continue to do so because of spillovers from the natural animal host-vector life cycle endemic in the country.

Multiple processes connected closely during the endless strip production (ESP) rolling, it is difficult to obtain the global optimal solution by multi-objective modelling of a single process, and the parameters to be optimized coupled with each other. To obtain the optimal solution, a multi-objective optimization model combining the power consumption, product quality, and loading balance was proposed for the design of an ESP rolling schedule. The thickness and heating temperature were simultaneously taken as the decision variables for coupling the temperature and loading in the rolling process, and the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) based on differential evolution (NSGA-II-DE) was applied to obtain the Pareto solutions.

Keloid is a common fibrotic disease, which is difficult to treat. It often causes itching and pain, which greatly disturbs patients in their work and daily life and causing difficulties in social interaction. Its pathogenesis is not clear, but may be related to several aspects: genetic susceptibility, environmental, immunological and endocrine factors, trauma and tension.

The retrospective study aimed to compare the space-maintaining effects of sticky bone (bone graft matrix enriched with injectable platelet-rich fibrin) and titanium mesh for bone augmentation in the aesthetic zone. Patients who underwent single implant placement and had type 2/4 alveolar bone defects (buccal bone wall loss is >50% of the expected implant length) were screened for inclusion in this study. The labial bone plate width was measured at 1, 3, and 5 mm below the apical implant platform on cone beam computed tomography images taken immediately and 6 months after surgery.

Microbial production of organic acids has been hindered by the poor acid tolerance of microorganisms and the high costs of waste salt reprocessing. The robustness of non-conventional microorganisms in an acidic environment makes it possible to produce organic acids at low pH and greatly simplifies downstream processing. In this review we discuss the environmental adaptability features of non-conventional yeasts, as well as the latest developments in genomic engineering strategies that have facilitated metabolic engineering of these strains.

Purpose: To develop a Chinese version of the 8-item Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire (CLDEQ-8) with cross-cultural adaption and clinical validation among soft contact lens wearers (SCL) in China.
Methods: The translation and adaptation of the Chinese CLDEQ-8 (C-CLDEQ-8) followed a rigorous methodological process based on cross-cultural research guidelines consisting of three main phases: 1) forward and backward translation of original CLDEQ-8 into Chinese, 2) cross-cultural adaptation performed by medical advising committee, and 3) clinical validation and repeatability test of the translated questionnaire on Chinese SCL wearers. Rasch analysis was also performed to investigate the psychometric properties of C-CLDEQ-8.

Alternative polyadenylation (APA) is an important driver of transcriptome diversity that generates messenger RNA isoforms with distinct 3' ends. The rapid development of single-cell and spatial transcriptomic technologies opened up new opportunities for exploring APA data to discover hidden cell subpopulations invisible in conventional gene expression analysis. However, conventional gene-level analysis tools are not fully applicable to APA data, and commonly used unsupervised dimensionality reduction methods often disregard experimentally derived annotations such as cell type identities.

Nuclear receptors (NRs) are a class of essential proteins that regulate the expression of specific genes and are associated with multiple diseases. In silico methods for prescreening potential NR binders with predictive binding ability are highly desired for NR-related drug development but are rarely reported. Here, we present the PbsNRs (Predicting binders and scaffolds for Nuclear Receptors), a user-friendly web server designed to predict the potential NR binders and scaffolds through proteochemometric modeling.

Background: Chemsex engagement is known to be associated with higher-risk sexual behaviour, HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI). To reduce HIV infection risk, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is increasingly used in the men who have sex with men (MSM) community. This study aims to examine the interrelationship between chemsex engagement and PrEP use in MSM.

Aims: Calcified chondroid mesenchymal neoplasm (CCMN) is a recently identified category of soft tissue neoplasms defined by cartilage or cartilaginous matrix formation and gene fusions. Its rarity and similarities to other soft tissue tumours pose diagnostic challenges. This study aims to deepen understanding of CCMN, highlighting molecular pathology's role in diagnosis to reduce misdiagnosis, overdiagnosis and overtreatment.
