Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is highly prevalent in nature and serves as the primary pathogen responsible for porcine circovirus-associated disease (PCVD/PCVAD), posing a significant threat to pig production. Currently, vaccination alone could not provide the complete protection for PCV2 infection. The active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine have shown a positive effect in combating viral infections.

Most Kunitz inhibitors exhibit serine protease inhibitory activity, but limited information is available on the regulation of platelet function. Herein, we report the purification and characterization of a novel single Kunitz domain inhibitor (Sibanin) from the salivary glands of the black fly Simulium bannaense. Recombinant Sibanin prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time, and exhibited high-affinity binding to FXa and elastase with a KD of 5.

Fruits are susceptible to ethylene ripening and microbial infestation, which can lead to spoilage and further significant economic losses. Thus, using functional preservation materials is an effective controlling technology to improve the post-harvest quality and extend the shelf life of fruits. Hence, a dual-function cellulose-based paper with exceptional antibacterial efficiency, favourable ethylene removal performance, improved mechanical and hydrophobic properties was prepared by covalently grafted antibacterial guanidine salt and surface-modified ethylene scavenger.

Gastric cancer is a prevalent gastrointestinal tumor. In the classical cascade of gastric cancer development, the gradual progression from non-atrophic gastritis, atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, to intraepithelial neoplasia eventually leads to early gastric cancer. We investigated the proteomic characteristics of chronic gastritis (CG), low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (low-grade LGIN), and early gastric cancer (EGC).

The development of biomass material is an important approach to alleviating the excessive using of plastic packaging, by which the product could be more environmentally friendly and lower toxicity. In this study, we developed a biodegradable photodynamic antibacterial food packaging film using nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) synthesized from crayfish shells, combined with konjac glucomannan (KGM) and sodium alginate (SA). Casting method was used to prepare the composite film and results indicated that incorporation of N-CQDs significantly enhanced the mechanical and barrier properties of the film by reducing the number of micropores.

The development of anti-tumor drugs with hepatoprotective properties has always been highly valued due to their dual capabilities of safeguarding the liver and combating tumors. Moreover, when used in conjunction with specific chemotherapy drugs, they can enhance the efficacy of cancer treatment while simultaneously reducing liver damage caused by chemotherapeutic agents. Our research focused on oleanolic acid (OA), a natural compound known for its liver-protective effects.

Advanced cancer patients face a high risk of sepsis due to immune suppression and infection susceptibility. To tackle this challenge, we developed an innovative animal model that simulates the clinical scenario of late-stage cancer complicated by sepsis and designed a sialic acid (SA)-modified paclitaxel (PTX) liposome (PTX-SAL). This formulation specifically targets overactivated peripheral blood neutrophils (PBNs) by binding to L-selectin on their surface.
