The development of highly efficient non-precious electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) remains a significant challenge. In this work, we introduce a highly effective OER electrocatalyst, Cu-F-CoO, synthesized by doping copper (Cu) and fluorine (F) into CoO using a quenching method. Both experimental and theoretical calculations reveal that Cu and F incorporation significantly shifts the d-band center closer to the Fermi level, creates abundant oxygen vacancies, and facilitates the reconstruction of the catalyst to form the CuCoOF/CuO heterojunction.

Rational construction of highly active and long-life electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is of great significance for the development of renewable energy-related applications. Metal alloying is an effective method to improve the activity of electrocatalysts. Here, we report an efficient and stable freestanding film electrocatalyst (RuCo/CNT) consisting of uniformly loaded RuCo alloy on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) film.

Leveraging abundant natural reserves and lower cost profiles, sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are poised to supersede lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) within the domain of large-scale energy storage systems. Many achievements have been made in improving the properties of anodes in SIBs from the aspects of nanostructure and surface modification. Recently, the incorporation of anionic species into metal sulfides via defect engineering has emerged as an innovative strategy to boost sodium storage capabilities.

Cancer remains a significant global health challenge due to its high mortality rates and the limitations of conventional therapies, which are often associated with severe side effects and limited efficacy. Calcium (Ca) overload therapy has emerged as a promising strategy for inducing tumor cell apoptosis. However, existing methods that rely on direct Ca delivery often face limited efficacy due to tumor adaptation mechanisms.

The design of heterojunction and active crystal face is an effective way to promote the separation and migration of photogenerated charge in the process of photocatalytic reaction. In this work, the band gap intercalation BiOBr/BiOCO/g-CN (BBC) ternary photocatalyst was successfully designed by one step hydrothermal method. It is found that under alkaline conditions, the addition of g-CN to BiOBr leads to the preferential growth of the (0 0 1) crystal face of the third phase BiOCO, and the (0 0 1) crystal face is the active crystal face of the photocatalytic reaction.

The capture and utilization of CO are critical for protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainable development of society. Given the challenges in separating multiple C1 products (CO, CH etc.) with similar reduction potentials, achieving high selectivity for a single reduction product while maintaining high conversion efficiency is essential.

NaV(PO) (NVP) with typical NASICON structure is highly regarded as one of the most appealing cathodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) for their excellent structural stability; however, the poor electronic conductivity and irreversible phase transition at high voltage (∼4 V) for the material result in poor rate capabilities and significant capacity degradation during electrochemical reactions. Herein, the high-entropy doping strategy of introducing six types of metal ions into the V-sites in NaV(PO) is used to design a high-performance cathode of NaV(Mn, Ca, Mg, Al, Zr)Nb(PO) (HE-NVP) for SIBs. After the high-entropy doping, a reversible V/V redox pair is activated at high voltage of ∼4 V, which significantly contributes to the enhancement of energy density and operating voltage.

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) employing high-voltage cathode present a promising pathway toward high-energy-density energy storage systems. However, critical challenges have hindered their practical application, including lithium dendrite proliferation, unstable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI), and limited oxidative stability of conventional 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME)-based electrolytes. Herein, we rationally design a siloxane-based electrolyte system featuring enhanced oxidative stability through solvent molecular engineering.

Vapor-phase perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), along with methane emissions from landfills has been key contributors of their atmospheric transport and global distribution. Given the persistence, bioaccumulation, and potential health risks associated with PFAS, understanding their transport behavior in landfill gas barrier is of paramount importance. To gain a deeper understanding of the adsorption and diffusion behavior of vapor-phase PFAS in unsaturated, montmorillonite-rich clay barriers, a molecular dynamics simulation was conducted.

Heavy metal cations and anions contaminated groundwater was a big challenge to water resource safety. Herein, a green sulfidated micro zero-valent iron-based hydrogel (SA-S-mZVI) was synthesized using sodium alginate biomass for the simultaneous removal of heavy metal cations (Cu(II), Pb(II), Cd(II)) and anions (Cr(VI)). The sulfur modification and incorporation of sodium alginate hydrogel facilitated the efficient and sustainable removal of both single and multi-heavy metals.

The burgeoning issue of micro/nanoplastics in ecosystems underscores an urgent need for advanced detection techniques. Herein, we introduce a novel SERS-based approach using a noble metal-free CuS@MoS heterojunction sensor, which has been meticulously engineered for enhanced sensitivity and stability in the detection of plastic contaminants. This semiconductor heterostructure harnesses the inherent surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effects of CuS and the efficient charge transfer facilitated by the built-in electric field at the CuS@MoS interface, rivaling the performance of noble-metal-based SERS sensors.

The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of pullulan (PUL) based films incorporated with algae polyphenol extracts (APE) in preserving the freshness of porcine longissimus lumborum (PLL) during refrigerated storage at 4 °C for 7 d. Among 3 types of polysaccharides (tested konjac gum, soluble soybean polysaccharide, and PUL), the PUL-APE composite film demonstrated superior film performance. The effects of APE concentrations at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 % (w/v) on the barrier, mechanical, physical, and optical properties of the developed films were evaluated while exploring intermolecular interactions between APE and polysaccharides.
