Norovirus (NoV) infection is a leading cause of gastroenteritis and poses global health threats, with increasing incidence reported in immunocompromised individuals, which is further exacerbated by the globalization of the food industry. Eumelanin has demonstrated its potential in antiviral treatments, but its role in preventing viral infections remains underexplored. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the antiviral properties and potential mechanisms of self-assembled eumelanin nanoparticles (EmNPs) against Tulane virus (TuV), a surrogate with a similar infection mechanism to NoVs.

In China, medicinal with double flowers (DFs) does not produce seeds, yet it possesses significantly higher paeoniflorin content compared with its single-flowered counterpart. The propagation of medicinal with DFs relies solely on rhizomes. However, due to economic motivations, the rhizomes of medicinal with single flowers (SFs) are often mixed with those of medicinal with DFs.

Non-Resonant Magnetic X-ray Scattering as a Probe of Ultrafast Molecular Spin-State Dynamics: An Ab Initio Theory.

J Chem Theory Comput

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Mesoscopic Physics and Collaborative Innovation Center of Quantum Matter, School of Physics, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China.

With the advancement of high harmonic generation and X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs) to the attosecond domain, the studies of the ultrafast electron and spin dynamics became possible. Yet, the methods for efficient control and measurement of the quantum state are to be further developed. In this publication, we propose using magnetic X-ray scattering (MXS) for resolving the molecular spin-state dynamics and establish a complete protocol to simulate MXS diffraction patterns in molecules with ab initio quantum chemistry based on the multiconfigurational method.

Chem Commun (Camb)

January 2025

Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics and School of Optical and Electronic Information, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, China.

Quasi-2D DJ type perovskites theoretically offer excellent properties for X-ray detection, but they often face issues such as phase segregation and small crystal size. In this study, we synthesized large single crystals of quasi-2D DJ type perovskite (3AMPY)(MA)PbBr using temperature-controlled crystallization. The resulting X-ray detector exhibited high resistivity (1.

In this study, phosphoramide compounds were successfully synthesized a series of reaction transformations from P(O)H compounds. The process began with the formation of P-Se-Ar bonds, facilitated by the synergistic effect of phenylboronic acid, selenium, and appropriate ligands in the presence of copper. Following this, nucleophilic substitution reactions with amine compounds were conducted to create P-N bonds.

Endothelial dysfunction, characterized by a decline in endothelial physiological functions, is a significant aspect of cardiovascular aging, contributing notably to arterial stiffness, atherosclerosis, and hypertension. Transient receptor potential channel V4 (TRPV4), a key member of Ca-permeable channels, plays a crucial role in maintaining vascular functions. However, the role and mechanisms of TRPV4 in aging-related endothelial dysfunction remain incompletely understood.

CdS/ZnS heterostructures with tunable band gaps are promising photocatalysts for solar- or visible-light-driven H production through water splitting. To predict how the bandgap changes with the heterostructure composition, density functional theory calculations with meta-GGA correction are performed. It is found that the band gaps of CdS and ZnS are reduced by up to 14.

As the catalytic subunit of the Elongator complex, Elongator protein 3 (Elp3) plays a crucial role in multiple physiological processes, including growth, development and immune responses. Previous studies on Elp3 have focused on Caenorhabditis elegans, Drosophila melanogaster, Homo sapiens (human) or Mus musculus (mouse), whereas there are few reports on Elp3 in agricultural pests. Here, the role of TcElp3 in reproduction in the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, was investigated, and the underlying mechanisms were explored.

Org Biomol Chem

January 2025

School of Life Sciences and Health Engineering, Jiangnan University, Jiangsu, 214122, China.

Dysfunction in the SHP1 enzyme can cause cancers and many diseases, so it is of great significance to develop novel small molecule SHP1 inhibitors. Through continuous monitoring of metabolic and targeted processes of SHP1 inhibitors in real-time, we can evaluate the effectiveness and toxicity of the inhibitors, further optimize drug design, and explore SHP1 biology. Indoloquinoxaline is an important class of N-containing heterocycle, which has been studied and applied in the pharmacological field and in optoelectronic materials.

Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), characterized by choroidal neovascularization (CNV), is one of the leading causes of severe visual impairment and irreversible vision loss around the world. Subretinal fibrosis (SRF) contributes to the incomplete response to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment and is one of the main reasons for long-term poor visual outcomes in nAMD. Reducing SRF is urgently needed in the anti-VEGF era.

Two-dimensional (2D) PtSe has attracted significant attention in recent years owing to its exceptional optoelectronic properties. Currently, the contact interface of the PtSe/bulk 2D-three-dimensional (3D) p-n heterojunction exhibits numerous defects. Moreover, the n-type bulk materials serve as a carrier transport layer, resulting in serious recombination losses and deterioration of device stability.

Electrochemical stability of electrospun silicon/carbon nanofiber anode materials: a review.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 211189, China.

Silicon (Si) is regarded as a promising anode material owing to its high specific capacity and low lithiation potential. The large volume change and the pulverization of silicon during the lithiation/delithiation process hinder its direct energy storage application. This review focuses on the electrospun silicon/carbon (Si/C) nanofiber anode materials for lithium-ion batteries for long-term stable energy storage.

This paper presents a multiscale computational model, 'micro-to-meso-to-macro', to simulate polydopamine coated gold nanoparticles (AuNP@PDA) for assisted tumor photothermal therapy (PTT). The optical properties, mainly refractive index, of the PDA unit molecules are calculated using the density functional theory (DFT) method in this multiscale model. Subsequently, the thermodynamic properties, including thermal conductivity and heat capacity, of the PDA cells and AuNP@PDA particles are calculated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by insufficient endogenous insulin production or impaired sensitivity to insulin. In recent years, a class of incretin-based hypoglycemic drugs, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), have attracted great attention in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) due to their benefits, including stable glycemic control ability, a low risk of hypoglycemia, and weight reduction for patients. However, like other peptide drugs, GLP-1RAs face challenges such as instability, susceptibility to enzymatic degradation, and immunogenicity, which severely limit their clinical application.
