Introduction: In chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) is linked to cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Levels of PTH are influenced by serum phosphate (P) and calcium (Ca), but little is known about the impact of magnesium (Mg) on PTH. Hence, this study investigated the relationship between PTH and Mg in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and non-dialysis patients from three hospitals in China.

Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are essential amino acids for humans and play an indispensable role in many physiological and pathological processes. Branched-chain amino acid aminotransferase (BCAT) is a key enzyme that catalyzes the metabolism of BCAAs. BCAT is upregulated in many cancers and implicated in the development and progress of some other diseases, such as metabolic and neurological diseases; and therefore, targeting BCAT might be a potential therapeutic approach for these diseases.

January 2025

Department of Hematology, Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510282, P.R. China.

Background: BCL-2 was the first gene identified to have antiapoptotic effects, and venetoclax is an oral selective BCL-2 inhibitor, which has great potential in the treatment of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who are not candidates for intensive therapy. Notably, posaconazole, an oral antifungal drug, is also a strong factor that can affect blood venetoclax concentrations. To the best of our knowledge, the relationship between BCL-2 expression, posaconazole, and venetoclax, as well as their influence on treatment efficacy and the prognosis of patients with AML, has not been reported.

Introduction: Neuroinflammation derived from the activation of the microglia is considered a vital pathogenic factor of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). T-006, a tetramethylpyrazine derivative, has been found to alleviate cognitive deficits via inhibiting tau expression and phosphorylation in AD transgenic mouse models. Recently, T-006 has been proven to dramatically decrease the levels of total Amyloid β (Aβ) peptide and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) and suppress the expression of ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule-1 (Iba-1) in APP/PS1 mice.

Dental caries, driven by dysbiosis in oral flora and acid accumulation, pose a significant threat to oral health. Traditional methods of managing dental biofilms using broad-spectrum antimicrobials and fluoride face limitations such as microbial resistance. Natural products, with their antimicrobial properties, present a promising solution for managing dental caries, yet their clinical application faces significant challenges, including low bioavailability, variable efficacy, and patient resistance due to sensory properties.

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) could significantly alter the recipient's gut bacteria composition and attenuate obesity and obesity-related metabolic syndromes. DL-norvaline is a nonproteinogenic amino acid and possesses anti-obesity potential. However, the specific mechanisms by which gut microbiota might mediate beneficial effects of DL-norvaline have not been completely elucidated.

A three-component reaction of alkenyl thianthrenium salts, cyclopropan-1-ols and DABCO·(SO) under catalyst- and additive-free conditions, is accomplished. This sulfonylation with the insertion of sulfur dioxide works efficiently under very mild conditions, leading to a wide range of 1-substituted vinyl sulfones in moderate to good yields. In this protocol, the scope generality of alkenyl thianthrenium salts and cyclopropyl alcohols is demonstrated.

Chang-Kung Chuang Institute, Shanghai Frontiers Science Center of Molecule Intelligent Syntheses, College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, East China Normal University, Shanghai 200062, China.

A new stereoselective [4+2] annulation method for constructing tetracyclic indolines by reacting indoles with bicyclic N-substituted cyclobutanes has been developed. Using Sc(OTf) as a catalyst, a series of tetracyclic indolines with four continued stereogenic carbon centers have been obtained in ≤86% yields as single diastereomers. This reaction offers an accessible way for the rapid construction of the core structures of biologically active natural products like paucidirinine, deethylibophyllidine, and ibophyllidine.

Self-assembled monolayers (SAM) as hole transport layers have been widely used in high-efficiency inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exceeded 26 %. However, the poor coverage and non-uniform distribution on the substrate of SAM further restrict the improvement of device performance. Herein, we utilize the mixed SAM strategy via the MeO-2PACz along with perfluorotripropylamine (FC-3283) to improve the SAM coverage, aiming to accelerate the carrier transport, promote the perovskite growth, regulate the surface energy levels and suppress the nonradiative recombination.
