Objective: A comprehensive bioinformatics analysis was conducted to investigate potential new diagnostic biomarkers and immune infiltration characteristics associated with tubulointerstitial injury in lupus nephritis (LN), and to examine possible correlations between key genes and infiltrating immune cells.

Methods: The GSE32591, GSE113342, and GSE200306 datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in the pooled dataset. Support vector machine-recursive feature elimination analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression model were used to screen for possible markers, and the compositional patterns of the 22 types of immune cell fractions in LN were determined using CIBERSORT.

Human Herpesvirus 6A Infection-Associated Acute Anterior Uveitis.

J Inflamm Res

December 2024

Department of Ophthalmology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, 310003, People's Republic of China.

Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infection can cause ophthalmic diseases in immunocompetent patients, recipients of bone marrow transplants, and patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This study describes the case of a healthy 37-year-old male who presented with unilateral anterior uveitis (AU), significant anterior chamber exudation, pupillary membrane closure, increased intraocular pressure, and eyelid edema. Notably, HHV-6A was the only pathogenic agent identified in the blood and aqueous humor.

Introduction: The Steinberg classification system is commonly used by orthopedic surgeons to stage the severity of patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), and it includes mild, moderate, and severe grading of each stage based on the area of the femoral head affected. However, clinicians mostly grade approximately by visual assessment or not at all. To accurately distinguish the mild, moderate, or severe grade of early stage ONFH, we propose a convolutional neural network (CNN) based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the hip joint of patients to accurately grade and aid diagnosis of ONFH.

Background: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery has been a widely accepted method for treating coronary artery disease. However, its postoperative complications can have a significant effect on long-term patient outcomes. A retrospective study was conducted to identify before and after surgery that contribute to postoperative stroke in patients undergoing CABG, and to develop predictive models and recommendations for single-factor thresholds.

Objective: This study compared the value of different systemic immune-inflammatory markers for evaluating coronary collateralization (CC) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic total occlusion (CTO).

Methods: Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) and pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) were calculated at admission in 1409 T2DM patients with CTO. The degree of coronary collaterals was estimated using the Rentrop scoring system and categorized into poor (Rentrop score 0 or 1) or good (Rentrop score 2 or 3) CC.

It is unusual for young patients without any underlying diseases to experience sudden cerebral infarction and heart failure. Here, we report a rare case of a 28-year-old female patient who presented with chest tightness and dizziness. Left ventricular thrombus formation and cardiac insufficiency were evident on echocardiogram, while multiple acute or subacute cerebral infarctions were visible on brain magnetic resonance imaging.

A Novel Bispecific Anti-IL17/VEGF Fusion Trap Exhibits Potent and Long-Lasting Inhibitory Effects on the Development of Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

Biochem Res Int

December 2024

Development of Research and Development, Sunshine Guojian Pharmaceutical (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., a 3SBio Inc. Company, 399 Libing Road, Shanghai 201203, China.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a severe eye disease in people aged 60 years and older. Although anti-VEGF therapies are effective in treating neovascular AMD (NvAMD) in the clinic, up to 60% of patients do not completely respond to the therapies. Recent studies have shown that blood-derived macrophages and their associated proinflammatory cytokines may play important roles in the development of persistent disease and resistance to anti-VEGF therapy.

The large-scale preparation of fluorescent nanomaterials with laboratory-relevant chemical and optical properties will greatly forward their consumer market applications; however, it still remains challenging. In this work, a universal strategy was developed for the rapid and large-scale synthesis of fluorescent sulfur quantum dots that recently has drawn great attention because of their unique optical characteristics. From the fact that empty 3d orbitals of sulfide species are able to bind with lone-pair π electrons of the heteroatomic groups, many amino-group containing compounds, such as amino acid and polyethylenimine molecules, were exploited to synthesize sulfur quantum dots.

Nonemissive Iridium(III) Solvent Complex as a Self-Reporting Photosensitizer for Monitoring Phototherapeutic Efficacy in a "Signal on" Mode.

Chem Biomed Imaging

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science of Shaanxi Province, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an, 710062, P. R. China.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has long been receiving increasing attention for the minimally invasive treatment of cancer. The performance of PDT depends on the photophysical and biological properties of photosensitizers (PSs). The always-on fluorescence signal of conventional PSs makes it difficult to real-time monitor phototherapeutic efficacy in the PDT process.

Inference of Correlations Among Testlet Effects: A Latent Variable Selection Method.

Appl Psychol Meas

December 2024

Collaborative Innovation Center of Assessment Toward Basic Education Quality, Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China.

In psychological and educational measurement, a testlet-based test is a common and popular format, especially in some large-scale assessments. In modeling testlet effects, a standard bifactor model, as a common strategy, assumes different testlet effects and the main effect to be fully independently distributed. However, it is difficult to establish perfectly independent clusters as this assumption.

Immunotherapy is one of the research hotspots in colorectal cancer field in recent years. The colorectal cancer patients with mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) or high microsatellite instability (MSI-H) are the primary beneficiaries of immunotherapy. However, the vast majority of colorectal cancers are mismatch repair proficient (pMMR) or microsatellite stability (MSS), and their immune microenvironment is characterized by "cold tumors" that are generally insensitive to single immunotherapy based on immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
