Introduction: It is currently uncertain whether smoking is a risk factor for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). This study aims to elucidate association between smoking and CTS using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.
Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of publicly available GWAS data, using four smoking phenotypes (smoking initiation, smoking status, lifetime smoking, and never smoking) as exposures, and two CTS datasets (discovery and validation sets) as outcomes for MR analysis.

Dental pulp stem cells hold significant prospects for tooth regeneration and repair. However, a comprehensive understanding of the molecular differences between dental pulp stem cells (DPSC, from permanent teeth) and stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED, from deciduous teeth) remains elusive, which is crucial for optimizing their therapeutic potential. To address this gap, we employed a novel data-independent acquisition (DIA) proteomics approach to compare the protein expression profiles of DPSC and SHED.

Neonatal sepsis (NS) is highly likely to cause death; however, early diagnosis of NS is still a great challenge. This study aimed to determine the diagnostic values of IL-6, IL-8, and serum amyloid A (SAA) in NS patients. C-Reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and SAA were detected in 120 infants with NS (60 premature infants [NS-PIs] and 60 term infants [NS-TIs]).

The need for attention to enable statistical learning is debated. Testing individuals with impaired consciousness offers valuable insight, but very few studies have been conducted due to the difficulties inherent in such studies. Here, we examined the ability of patients with varying levels of disorders of consciousness (DOC) to extract statistical regularities from an artificial language composed of randomly concatenated pseudowords by measuring frequency tagging in EEG.

Freshwater pearl farming in China generates wastewater high in ammoniacal nitrogen (NH₃-N) posing environmental threats. This study explores the use of coal fly ash (CFA), an industrial waste, to synthesize A-type zeolite for effective NH₃-N removal from pearl farming wastewater. The zeolite was prepared via pickling pretreatment and hydrothermal methods, resulting in a material with favorable adsorption properties, including cubic and spherical microstructures, a specific surface area of 17.

Lung cancer remains one of the most prevalent and lethal malignancies worldwide, characterized by high mortality rates due to its aggressive nature, metastatic potential, and drug resistance. Despite advancements in conventional therapies, their efficacy is often limited by systemic toxicity, poor tumor specificity, and the emergence of resistance mechanisms. Nanomedicine has emerged as a promising approach to address these challenges, leveraging the unique physicochemical properties of nanomaterials to enhance drug delivery, reduce off-target effects, and enable combination therapies.

O3-type NaNiMnO cathode material exhibits significant potential for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) owing to its high theoretical capacity and ample sodium reservoir. Nonetheless, its practical implementation encounters considerable obstacles, such as impaired structural integrity, sensitivity to moisture, inadequate high-temperature stability, and being unstable under high-voltage conditions. This study investigates the co-substitution of Cu, Mg, and Ti, guided by principles of the periodic law, to enhance the material's stability under varying conditions.

An efficient Pd-catalyzed regioselective intramolecular aerobic oxidative dehydrocoupling of BH/CH between -carborane and arenes has been achieved with the construction of a series of five-, six- and seven-membered rings under mild reaction conditions. Control experiments indicate that B-H activation proceeds preferentially over the aryl C-H. These new polyarene-carborane conjugates have potential applications in materials as demonstrated by pyrene fused -carborane that exhibits unique dual-phase emission, intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), and aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties.

Multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) emitters have been actively employed in high-resolution solution-processed organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) due to their excellent color purity. Nonetheless, they are always confronted with intrinsic slow spin flip of triplet excitons, impeding the electroluminescence properties, especially in non-sensitized OLEDs. Herein, we constructed intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) assisted MR-TADF emitters by grafting donor-acceptor-type moieties with a - or -substitution as a pendant on an organoboron multi-resonance core.

The process of proton translocation in , triggered by light, is powered by the photoisomerization of all--retinal in bacteriorhodopsin (bR). The primary events in bR involving rapid structural changes upon light absorption occur within subpicoseconds to picoseconds. While the three-state model has received extensive support in describing the primary events between the H and K states, precise characterization of each excited state in the three-state model during photoisomerization remains elusive.

Background: The social problems caused by depressive disorders and psychological behaviors in women are increasingly prominent, with extreme incidents occurring from time to time. Therefore, the issue concerning "how to prevent and resolve the risk of depression in women" is gaining significant attention across various sectors. However, previous studies have largely focused on teenage girls, perimenopausal women, or women during pregnancy and the postpartum period, neglecting the adverse effects of major diseases, which is detrimental to enhancing the psychological well-being of women with cancer.

Osteoarthritis (OA) affects several joints but tends to be more prevalent in those that are weight-bearing, such as the knees, which are the most heavily loaded joints in the body. The incidence and disability rates of OA have continued to increase and seriously jeopardise the quality of life of middle-aged and older adults. However, OA is more than just a wear and tear disease; its aetiology is complex, and its pathogenesis is poorly understood.

The one-pot terpolymerization of epoxide (EP), anhydride (AH), and CO to synthesize polyester-polycarbonate copolymers with precise sequences remains a significant challenge in polymer chemistry. In this study, promising progress was achieved by utilizing a cyclic trimeric phosphazene base (CTPB) and triethylboron (TEB) as a binary catalyst, enabling the synthesis of both well-defined block and truly random poly(ester-carbonate) copolymers through the one-pot terpolymerization of EP/AH/CO. By adjusting the molar ratio of CTPB/TEB to 1/0.

A highly strained macrocycle comprising four [4]helicene panels, [4]cyclo[4]helicenylene ([4]CH, ), was synthesized through a one-pot macrocyclization and chemically reduced by alkali metals (Na and K), revealing a four-electron reduction process. The resulting di-, tri-, and tetraanions of compound were isolated and crystallographically characterized by X-ray diffraction. Owing to the four axially chiral bi[4]helicenyl fragments, a reversible stereo transformation of between the (,,,)- and (,,,)-configurations was disclosed upon the two-electron uptake, which was rationally understood by theoretical calculations.
