Unveiling novel biomarkers for platinum chemoresistance in ovarian cancer.

Open Med (Wars)

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, P.R. China.

Primary chemoresistance to platinum-based treatment is observed in approximately 33% of individuals diagnosed with ovarian cancer; however, conventional clinical markers exhibit limited predictive value for chemoresistance. This study aimed to discover new genetic markers that can predict primary resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. Through the analysis of three GEO datasets (GSE114206, GSE51373, and GSE63885) utilizing bioinformatics methodologies, we identified two specific genes, MFAP4 and EFEMP1.

Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a disordered pulmonary disease characterized by acute respiratory insufficiency with tachypnea, cyanosis refractory to oxygen and diffuse alveolar infiltrates. Despite increased research into ALI, current clinical treatments lack effectiveness. Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) has shown potential in ALI treatment, and understanding its effects on the pulmonary microenvironment and its underlying mechanisms is imperative.

While soundscapes shape the structure and function of auditory systems over evolutionary timescales, there is limited information regarding the adaptation of wild fish populations to their natural acoustic environments. This is particularly relevant for freshwater ecosystems, which are extremely diverse and face escalating pressures from human activities and associated noise pollution. The Siamese fighting fish is one of the most important cultured species in the global ornamental fish market and is increasingly recognized as a model organism for genetics and behavioural studies.

The characterization of in regulation of flower size through tuning cell expansion genes.

Front Plant Sci

December 2024

Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Germplasm Innovation and Utilization for Garden Plants, School of Landscape and Architecture, Zhejiang A&F University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Flower appearance stands as a key characteristic of flowering plants and is closely linked to their ornamental value. Phytohormone Gibberellin (GA), essential for plant growth and development are widely reported for expansion in flower. DELLA proteins are known to negatively regulate GA signaling and influences plant growth and development through the regulation of cell expansion.

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), a crucial transcription factor, exerts a notable influence by hyperactivating or acquiring functional mutations in the occurrence and progression of cancers. Hyperactive STAT3 is also implicated in a range of hematopoietic malignancies, especially acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The function of STAT3 is associated with the phosphorylated parallel dimer structure, enabling them to stimulate the transcription of specific genes.

Introduction: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin malignancy, accounting for approximately 80% of all non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs). Ultraviolet (UV) exposure is a significant risk factor for BCC development, which typically occurs in sun-exposed areas. BCC arising in non-sun-exposed regions, such as the nipple-areola complex (NAC), is exceedingly rare, with fewer than 100 cases reported globally.

Research Progress on Extracellular Matrix-Based Composite Materials in Antibacterial Field.

Biomater Res

January 2025

Department of Orthopedics, The First People's Hospital of Huzhou, First Affiliated Hospital of Huzhou University, Zhejiang 313000, China.

Due to their exceptional cell compatibility, biodegradability, and capacity to trigger tissue regeneration, extracellular matrix (ECM) materials have drawn considerable attention in tissue healing and regenerative medicine. Interestingly, these materials undergo continuous degradation and release antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) while simultaneously promoting tissue regeneration, thereby exerting a potent antibacterial effect. On this basis, a variety of basic properties of ECM materials, such as porous adsorption, hydrophilic adsorption, group crosslinking, and electrostatic crosslinking, can be used to facilitate the integration of ECM materials and antibacterial agents through physical and chemical approaches in order to enhance the antibacterial efficacy.

Doping strategies have been recognized as effective approaches for developing cost-effective and durable catalysts with enhanced reactivity and selectivity in the electrochemical synthesis of value-added compounds directly from CO. However, the reaction mechanism and the specific roles of heteroatom doping, such as N doping, in advancing the CO reduction reaction are still controversial due to the lack of precise control of catalyst surface microenvironments. In this study, we investigated the effects of N doping on the performances for electrochemically converting CO to CO over Ni@NCNT/graphene hybrid structured catalysts (Ni@NCNT/Gr).

This study introduces a family of root-solvers for systems of nonlinear equations, leveraging the Daftardar-Gejji and Jafari Decomposition Technique coupled with the midpoint quadrature rule. Despite the existing application of these root solvers to single-variable equations, their extension to systems of nonlinear equations marks a pioneering advancement. Through meticulous derivation, this work not only expands the utility of these root solvers but also presents a comprehensive analysis of their stability and semilocal convergence; two areas of study missing in the existing literature.
