Congenital muscular dystrophies and myopathies: the leading cause of genetic muscular disorders in eleven Chinese families.

Background: Congenital muscular dystrophies (CMDs) and myopathies (CMYOs) are a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of neuromuscular disorders that share common features, such as muscle weakness, hypotonia, characteristic changes on muscle biopsy and motor retardation. In this study, we recruited eleven families with early-onset neuromuscular disorders in China, aimed to clarify the underlying genetic etiology.

Methods: Essential clinical tests, such as biomedical examination, electromyography and muscle biopsy, were applied to evaluate patient phenotypes.

Background: The etiology of depression involves many biological and environmental factors, among which the inflammatory process is an important contributor. However, the role of pro-inflammatory cytokines in postmenopausal depression is unclear. Therefore, we aimed to explore the association between the serum concentrations of four pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18, and TNF-α) and depressive symptoms in postmenopausal women who had been receiving menopause hormone therapy (MHT) for at least 6 months and postmenopausal women who had not received MHT.

Multimodal ultrasound assessment of the injection therapy in lateral epicondylitis: a retrospective observational study.

Clinical significance and pro-oncogenic function of DBF4 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common malignant urological tumor, and regrettably, and is insensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, resulting in poor patient outcomes. DBF4 plays a critical role in DNA replication and participates in various biological functions, making it an attractive target for cancer treatment. Purpose: Breast cancer, as a stressful event, profoundly impacts the entire family, especially patients and their spouses. This study used a dyadic analysis approach to explore the dyadic effects of illness perception on the fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) and whether maladaptive cognitive-emotional regulation strategies acted as a mediator in breast cancer patient-spouse dyads.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, and 202 dyads of breast cancer patients and their spouses were enrolled.

Asthma-associated prostate enlargement and bladder smooth muscle hypercontractility: unveiling a potential link to LUTS.

Background: In male patients, benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and overactive bladder (OAB) secondary to BPH are the primary causes of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS). Recent clinical studies have reported an increased risk of LUTS, particularly severe LUTS conditions, in male asthmatic patients. However, the potential link and mechanism remain unclear.

Background: Co-existent pulmonary tuberculosis and lung cancer (PTB-LC) represent a unique disease entity often characterized by missed or delayed diagnosis. This study aimed to investigate the clinical and radiological features of patients diagnosed with PTB-LC.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with active PTB-LC (APTB-LC), inactive PTB-LC (IAPTB), and LC alone without PTB between 2010 and 2022 at our institute were retrospectively collected and 1:1:1 matched based on gender, age, and time of admission.

Exploring the influence of living arrangements on mental health among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: a cross-sectional study in China.

Background: Although scholars have extensively explored the impact of parents on the mental health of children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic, the role of living arrangements has not received sufficient attention. Furthermore, the previous studies do not investigate whether living with a father or a mother has differing impacts on the mental health of adolescents, nor does it explore potential differences between biological parents and step-parents in this regard.

Study Aims: This study aims to explore the impact of various living arrangements during the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of adolescents, with a particular focus on parental presence and family structure.

TOM40 as a prognostic oncogene for oral squamous cell carcinoma prognosis.

Background: To investigate the role of the translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane 40 (TOM40) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) with the aim of identifying new biomarkers or potential therapeutic targets.

Methods: TOM40 expression level in OSCC was evaluated using datasets downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), as well as clinical data. The correlation between TOM40 expression level and the clinicopathological parameters and survival were analyzed in TCGA.

Methods: Articular line incision approach was employed on 12 patients suffering from posterolateral tibial plateau fractures.

Prevalence and influencing factors of occupational burnout among healthcare workers in the Chinese mainland during the late 2022 Omicron COVID-19 outbreak: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

China witnessed an Omicron COVID-19 outbreak at the end of 2022. During this period, medical crowding and enormous pressure on the healthcare systems occurred, which might result in the occurrence of occupational burnout among healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aims to investigate the prevalence of occupational burnout and associated mental conditions, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, perceived social support, resilience, and mindfulness among HCWs of the Chinese mainland during the Omicron COVID-19 outbreak, and to explore the potential risk and protective factors influencing occupational burnout of HCWs.

Smoking cessation is a protective factor for lung cancer onset and mortality: a population-based prospective cohort study.

Background: Smoking is a pivotal modifiable risk factor for lung cancer (LC). Previous studies have indicated that a smoking cessation program might be incorporated into the LC screening program. However, the effects of smoking cessation and its duration with the age at onset (AAO) of LC, all-cause mortality, and LC-specific mortality remain unclear.
