Ammonia stress was detrimental to shrimp, but how water ammonia nitrogen (ammonia-N) influences the shrimp's health remains unclear. Thus, this study was designed to investigate the effects of water ammonia-N on hemolymph ammonia-N concentration, hepatopancreas structure, and the intestinal microbiota of Litopenaeus vannamei with four experiments. We found that the concentration of ammonia-N in shrimp hemolymph was significantly higher than that in pond water, indicating that water ammonia-N stimulates the accumulation of hemolymph ammonia-N.

Autophagy is a conserved catabolic recycling pathway that can eliminate cytosolic materials to maintain homeostasis and organelle functions. Many studies over the past few decades have demonstrated that abnormal autophagy is associated with a variety of diseases. Protein lipidation plays an important role in the regulation of autophagy by affecting protein trafficking, localization, stability, interactions and signal transduction.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI)-associated neuroinflammation and neurotoxicity can induce gastrointestinal dysfunction through the brain-gut axis. Partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) was demonstrated to exert beneficial health effects by altering gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production. Our study aimed to explore the effects of PHGG on gastrointestinal dysfunction in TBI mouse models.

Extensive agricultural regions commonly face issues of poor groundwater management, non-standard agricultural production practices, and unordered discharge of domestic pollution, leading to a continuous decline in groundwater quality and a sharp increase in risks. A comprehensive understanding of groundwater conditions and pollution is a crucial step in effectively addressing the water quality crisis. This study employs the Comprehensive Water Quality Index, Irrigation parameter, and Pollution Index to comprehensively investigate the groundwater quality in a typical agricultural area in Shandong, China, and assesses the suitability of groundwater for irrigation and the risks to human health.

In plants, autophagy is a conserved process by which intracellular materials, including damaged proteins, aggregates, and entire organelles, are trafficked to the vacuole for degradation, thus maintaining cellular homeostasis. The past few decades have seen extensive research into the core components of the central autophagy machinery and their physiological roles in plant growth and development as well as responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. Moreover, several methods have been established for monitoring autophagic activities in plants, and these have greatly facilitated plant autophagy research.

A high-throughput sequencing identified 1283 lncRNAs in anthers at different stages in Arabidopsis and their relationship with protein-coding genes and miRNAs during anther and pollen development were analyzed. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are important regulatory molecules involved in various biological processes. However, their roles in male reproductive development and interactions with miRNAs remained elusive.

Context: The rotating arc plasma technique for the synthesis of nitrogen-doped graphene capitalizes on the distinctive attributes of plasma, presenting a straightforward, efficient, and catalyst-free strategy for the production of nitrogen-doped graphene. However, experimental outcomes generally fail to elucidate the atomic-level mechanism behind this process. Our research utilizes molecular dynamics simulations to explore theoretically the formation of radicals during the plasma-driven reaction between methane (CH₄) and nitrogen (N₂).

Developing high-performance solar cells is a practical way to improve clean energy conversion efficiency. However, the performance of solar cells faces challenges such as fast carrier combination, poor stability, and limited solar light harvesting. Herein, we propose a strategy by decorating periodic holes in two-dimensional (2D) porous carbon-nitrogen (CN) materials with a zero-dimensional (0D) semiconducting (ZnO) cluster.

Sample pretreatment for mass spectrometry (MS)-based metabolomics and lipidomics is normally conducted independently with two sample aliquots and separate matrix cleanup procedures, making the two-step process sample-intensive and time-consuming. Herein, we introduce a high-throughput pretreatment workflow for integrated nontargeted metabolomics and lipidomics leveraging the enhanced matrix removal (EMR)-lipid microelution 96-well plates. The EMR-lipid technique was innovatively employed to effectively separate and isolate non-lipid small metabolites and lipids in sequence using significantly reduced sample amounts and organic solvents.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and clinical impact of fibroblast activation protein (FAP)-targeted PET/CT imaging in primary and metastatic breast cancer and compare the results with those of standard-of-care imaging (SCI) and [F]FDG PET/CT.
Methods: We prospectively analyzed patients with diagnosed or suspected breast cancer who underwent concomitant FAP-targeted PET/CT (radiotracers including either [Ga]Ga-FAPI-46 or [F]FAPI-42) and [F]FDG PET/CT scans from June 2020 to January 2024 at two medical centers. Breast ultrasound (US) imaging was performed in all treatment-naïve patients as SCI.

Oxymetholone and methasterone are anabolic androgenic steroids prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for both in-competition and out-of-competition use. Detecting metabolites of exogenous steroids is crucial for establishing doping violations, making the study of these metabolites essential in antidoping efforts. This study investigated the urinary metabolic profiles of oxymetholone and methasterone using gas chromatography-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-Orbitrap-HRMS) in nanogram level by utilizing a novel multiplex nontargeted framework protocol.

The direct cross-couplings of aryl nonaflates with aryl bromides could be successfully accomplished by utilizing nickel as the catalyst, magnesium as the metal mediator, and lithium chloride as the additive. The reactions proceeded efficiently in THF at room temperature to produce the desired biaryls in moderate to good yields, showing both a reasonable substrate scope and functional group tolerance. Additionally, an equally good performance could be realized when the reaction was subjected to scale-up synthesis.

Some key secondary metabolism genes are important for driving the infection process of entomopathogenic fungi; however, their chemical substance basis has not been well investigated. Here, mixtures of polyol lipids are discovered, which are synthesized through iterative chain transfer-esterification-hydrolysis cycles catalyzed by serine hydrolase during the release of online highly reducing polyketide intermediates. Importantly, an gene knockout experiment revealed that the synthesis of polyol lipids is necessary for rodlet layer formation on the cell wall of .

Directly probing the heterogeneous conformations of intracellular proteins within their native cellular environment remains a significant challenge in mass spectrometry (MS). Here, we establish an in-cell MS and ultraviolet photodissociation (UVPD) strategy that directly ejects proteins from living cells into a mass spectrometer, followed by 193 nm UVPD for structural analysis. Applying this approach to calmodulin (CaM), we reveal that it adopts more extended conformations within living cells compared with purified samples , highlighting the unique influence of intracellular environments on protein folding.

Electrochemical uranium extraction from seawater is a vital project for the sustainable development of the nuclear industry, which requires selective intrinsic binding sites for uranyl. In this work, oxygen vacancies (O vacancies) were developed as an atomically identified confinement for uranyl, and thus, rapid uranium extraction from seawater was achieved. In a short period of 700 s, InO nanosheets with rich O vacancies (V-rich InO nanosheets) exhibited a high extraction efficiency of 88.

Arsenic trioxide (ATO), the active ingredient in Chinese arsenic, effectively inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell growth, but its clinical application is limited by the lack of a targeted delivery system. Phosphatidylinositol proteoglycan 3 (GPC3) is specifically expressed in HCC, and CPP44 is a cell-penetrating peptide that targets HCC cells. Here, we developed a liposome incorporating ATO with dual surface modifications of anti-GPC3 antibody and CPP44.
