J Phys Chem Lett

March 2025

College of Chemistry, Key Laboratory of Theoretical & Computational Photochemistry of Ministry of Education, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, People's Republic of China.

The reactive uptake of bromine nitrate (BrONO) into aqueous aerosols is a pivotal process in atmospheric bromine chemistry. BrONO forms halogen bonds with adjacent water molecules, disrupting hydrogen-bond networks and potentially triggering unique chemical behaviors. However, the role of halogen bonds in interfacial reactions remains an open question.

Langmuir

March 2025

State Key Laboratory of Solidification Processing, Center of Advanced Lubrication and Seal Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an 710072, P. R. China.

Herein, functionalized carbon aerogel microspheres (CAMs) were successfully prepared by the pyrolysis of resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) microspheres followed by surface modification. First, RF microspheres were carbonized to obtain CAMs. Afterward, the polyphenolic compound of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) was reacted with melamine to form a poly(EGCG) layer onto the CAM surface, followed by bonding the antiwear molecule dialkyl dithiophosphate (DDP) by the Michael addition, resulting in DDP-functionalized CAMs (DDP-CAMs).

Strategy for Using Electrolyte Additives to Regulate Zinc-Ion Battery Anode Interfaces via Tautomerism.

Nano Lett

March 2025

Hunan Province Key Laboratory of Chemical Power Source, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China.

The performance of zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) is often hindered by issues such as dendrite formation, hydrogen evolution, and limited cycling stability. 1,3-Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) not only stabilizes the anode by modulating the anode/electrolyte interface (AEI) but also enhances the electrochemical performance of the battery through its spontaneous and reversible keto-enol tautomerization, reducing the concentration gradient on the anode surface. Using a combination of DFT calculations and experimental characterization, the regulation of the hydrated Zn structure and its adsorption at AEI by this additive is investigated.

Introduction: Crohn's disease (CD) is a group of chronic transmural inflammation of gastrointestinal tract, which seriously harms the mental and physical health of adolescents. At present, there are still no specific markers that make the diagnosis of CD extremely difficult and poor prognosis. Iron deficiency is common in CD, yet the role of ferroptosis-related genes in CD has not been elucidated.

The transient electromagnetic field generated by the operation of high-voltage switches in substations can cause electromagnetic interference to the communication and control electronic equipment in the substation. On the other hand, it can also reflect the working status of the high-voltage switch itself. Therefore, it is necessary to measure and study it.

Constructing a 3D Interconnected Carbon Network for Mg-Doped Porous LiMnFePO/C Cathode Materials.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

March 2025

Electronic Materials Research Laboratory, Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education & International Center for Dielectric Research, School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710049, China.

Side-Functionalization of Poly(l-methionine) for Ice Control.

Biomacromolecules

March 2025

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Composite and Functional Materials, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300350, China.

Controlling ice growth is crucial during the cryopreservation of cells, but the current application of small molecules as cryoprotectants still remains a challenge. Inspired by structures of natural antifreeze (glyco)proteins, in this work, functionalized poly(l-methionine)s (PMets) are synthesized with different side groups including hydroxyl, threonine-mimetic with both methyl and hydroxyl groups (PMet-MOH), zwitterion with carboxyl and sulfonium (PMet-COOH), glycerol, and trehalose pendants. Results suggest that these functionalized PMets tend to self-assemble into 100-300 nm nanoparticles with positive charges in water.

Maximum a posteriori underwater acoustic source localization based on time differences of arrival accounting for refraction.

J Acoust Soc Am

March 2025

Key Laboratory of Underwater Acoustic Communication and Marine Information Technology, College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University, Xiamen, 361010, China.

Traditional underwater acoustic source localization methods based on time differences of arrival (TDOA) in the presence of refraction first estimate the source depth and range to each hydrophone and then estimate the horizontal location of the source. The accuracy of these methods is compromised by errors in range estimation. To address this, we propose a three-dimensional source localization method that utilizes TDOA measurements between direct and surface-reflected arrivals at N(N ≥3) hydrophones, taking into account refraction effects.

Previous studies focused on how contexts affect the recognition of lexical tones, primarily among healthy young adults in a quiet environment. However, little is known about how senescence and cognitive decline influence lexical tone normalization in adverse listening conditions. This study aims to explore how F0 shifts of the preceding context affect lexical tone identification across different age groups in quiet and noisy conditions.

Near-infrared (NIR) activatable nanoparticles enable remote, cell-type-specific manipulation of neuronal activity, whereas flexible microelectrode arrays (FMAs) facilitate long-term, multichannel recording of neural signals. Despite the recent development of multifunctional neural probes, integrating these techniques into a single, minimally invasive device remains challenging. Here, we present a novel optrode that combines NIR-activatable upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with FMAs.
