Patients with type 1 diabetes and their physicians have long desired a fully closed-loop artificial pancreas (AP) system that can alleviate the burden of blood glucose regulation. Although deep reinforcement learning (DRL) methods theoretically enable adaptive insulin dosing control, they face numerous challenges, including safety and training efficiency, which have hindered their clinical application. This paper proposes a safe and efficient adaptive insulin delivery controller based on DRL.

Background And Purpose: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are widely performed surgeries for end-stage joint disease, yet the influence of depression and anxiety on postoperative outcomes remains unclear. This study aims to consolidate current evidence on the relationship between preoperative depression and/or anxiety disorders and postoperative outcomes in adult patients undergoing primary THA or TKA. Given the potential for these psychiatric conditions to affect recovery, pain management, and overall satisfaction, the results of this study are crucial to inform targeted perioperative interventions and improve patient-centered care.

Key Laboratory of Advanced Ceramics and Machining Technology (Ministry of Education), and Tianjin Key Laboratory of Composite and Functional Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072, China.

For lithium-ion batteries, silicon monoxide is a potential anode material, but its application is limited by its relatively large irreversible capacity loss, which leads to its low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE). In this study, we conduct a two-step reaction for the formation of silicon oxide-based materials, including a magnesiothermic reduction of SiO with Mg, followed by the solid-state lithiation of silicon oxide with LiCO. Our results demonstrate that Mg can reduce SiO to Si and form MgSiO, while LiCO reacts with SiO to form LiSiO.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disorder in which pancreatic β-cells are destroyed by CD8 T cells. Anti-CD3 antibody effectively treats early-stage T1D when β-cell autoantibodies are detected but before symptoms appear. However, it impairs the immune system temporarily, exposing individuals to infection.

5-Methylcytosine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) are crucial epigenetic modifications in eukaryotic genomic DNA that regulate gene expression and are associated with the occurrence of various cancers. Here, we combined bisulfite conversion with 4-acetamido-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-oxopiperridinium tetrafluoroborate (ACTBF, TCI) oxidation to develop a label-free and sequence-independent isothermal amplification (BTIA) assay for a genome-wide 5mC and 5hmC analysis. The BTIA strategy can distinguish 5mC and 5hmC signatures from other bases with high sensitivity and good specificity, avoiding sophisticated chemical modifications and expensive protein labeling.

Constructing an Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Solid-Electrolyte Interface In Situ via an Organo-Polysulfide Electrolyte Additive for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

School of Material Science and Engineering, Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center for Photovoltaic Science and Engineering, Jiangsu Province Cultivation Base for State Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology, Changzhou University, Changzhou 213164, China.

Lithium (Li) metal's extremely high specific energy and low potential make it critical for high-performance batteries. However, uncontrolled dendrite growth and an unstable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) during repeated cycling still seriously hinder its practical application in Li metal batteries. Herein, we demonstrate a facile and effective approach to fabricate a flexible and robust hybrid SEI layer using two kinds of organo-polysulfides with different sulfur chain lengths [bis(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl)disulfide (Si-O-2S) and bis(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl)tetrasulfide (Si-O-4S)] as the additives in the electrolyte.

Pressure-Induced Emission Enhancement of Multi-Resonance o-Carborane Derivatives via Exciton‒Vibration Coupling Suppression.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for Advanced Catalysis Materials, Department of Chemistry, Zhejiang Normal University, Yingbin Road No.688, Jinhua, 321004, P. R. China.

Polycyclic multiple resonance (MR) molecules reveal narrowband emission, making them very promising emitters for high color purity display. Nevertheless, they still have challenges such as aggregation-induced emission quenching and spectral broadening. Overcoming these obstacles requires an in-depth understanding of the correlations among the alterations in their geometries, packing structures, and molecular vibrations and their corresponding changes in their photoluminescence (PL) properties.

METTL3, a key enzyme in N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification, plays a crucial role in the progression of renal fibrosis, particularly in chronic active renal allograft rejection (CAR). This study explored the mechanisms by which METTL3 promotes renal allograft fibrosis, focusing on its role in the macrophage-to-myofibroblast transition (MMT). Using a comprehensive experimental approach, including TGF-β1-induced MMT cell models, METTL3 conditional knockout (METTL3 KO) mice, and renal biopsy samples from patients with CAR, the study investigates the involvement of METTL3/Smad3 axis in driving MMT and renal fibrosis during the episodes of CAR.

The development of pure-green organic emitters with ideal emission peak and ultra-narrow full-widths at half-maximum (FWHMs) remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we report two new green emitters, CNBN and MCNBN, which achieve extremely narrow FWHMs by synergistic rigid π-extension and cyano-substitution for sky-blue multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) core. The introduction of cyano groups induces red-shifts of emission to green region and dramatically minimize the FWHMs.

In situ-Induced Crystal Facet Engineering to Enhance the Rate Performance of Zn Storage.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin 150001, China.

In recent years, aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have shown considerable promise in the energy storage sector, attributed to their inherent high safety and cost-effectiveness. ZnVO(OH)·2HO (ZVO) has emerged as a promising candidate for Zn storage in recent years, owing to its exceptional structural stability that endows it with an excellent cycle life. However, an unsatisfactory rate performance is a limiting factor for its development in ZIBs.

The carboxyl-terminus of Hsp70-interacting protein (CHIP) plays crucial roles in tumorigenesis and immunity, with previous studies suggesting a double-edged sword in thyroid cancer. However, its precise functions and underlying molecular mechanisms in thyroid cancer remained unclear. Here, we demonstrate through immunohistochemistry (IHC) that CHIP expression progressively increases from normal thyroid tissue to primary papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and lymph node metastases, with CHIP levels positively correlating with lymph node metastasis ( = 0.
