Polyphenols are known to interact with starch to form the V-type inclusion complex or the noninclusive complex. It is hypothesized that the addition of polyphenols could improve the properties of Chinese yam (Dioscorea opposita Thunb.) starch, and the properties of the complexes could be regulated by controlling the additive amount of polyphenols.

This study aimed to investigate the potential hypoglycemic mechanism of red ginseng acidic polysaccharides (RGAP) from the perspective of fatty acid (FA) regulation. A high-glucose/high-fat diet in conjunction with streptozotocin administration was employed to establish type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rat models, and their fecal FAs were detected using the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method. RGAP treatment alleviated the polyphagia, polydipsia, weight loss, and hyperglycemia observed in T2DM rats.

Pleurotus ostreatus is a nutrient-dense edible fungus renowned for its delicate texture, appealing flavor, and numerous potential health benefits. Simultaneous extraction within the framework of food resource processing facilitates the concurrent isolation and analysis of multiple target compounds. In this study, an ethanol/salt aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) was employed to extract polysaccharides (PS) and proteins from P.

Infant formulas are constantly being updated and upgraded, and N-glycans are functional glycans that have not been fully exploited to date. Commercial whey protein materials are often used as basic ingredients in infant formulas. Therefore, it is important to study N-glycans in commercial whey protein materials.

Whole-grain foods (WGFs) constitute a large part of humans' daily diet, making risk identification of WGFs important for health and safety. However, existing research on WGFs has paid more attention to revealing the effects of a single hazardous substance or various hazardous substances on food safety, neglecting the mutual influence between individual hazardous substances and between hazardous substances and basic information. Therefore, this paper proposes a causal inference of WGFs' risk based on a generative adversarial network (GAN) and Bayesian network (BN) to explore the mutual influence between hazardous substances and basic information.

The increasing power and integration of electronic devices have intensified serious heat accumulation, driving the demand for higher intrinsic thermal conductivity in thermal interface materials, such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Grafting mesogens onto PDMS can enhance its intrinsic thermal conductivity. However, the high stability of the PDMS chain limits the grafting density of mesogens, restricting the improvement in thermal conductivity.

Many lines of evidence suggest that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are closely associated with the occurrence and progression of colon cancer. The objective of this study was to investigate the regulatory effects and mechanisms of circ_0075829 on ferroptosis and immune escape in colon cancer. We utilized colon cancer cell lines and a xenograft mouse model to analyze the function of circ_0075829 in vitro and in vivo.

December 2024

Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine, College of Basic Medical Sciences, Dalian Medical University, Dalian, China.

MTHFD2 is highly overexpressed in breast cancer tissues, indicating that it might be used as a target in breast cancer treatment. This study aims to determine the role of MTHFD2 in breast cancer cell proliferation and the molecular pathways involved. In order to investigate MTHFD2 gene expression and its downstream pathways in breast cancer, we started our inquiry with a bioinformatics analysis.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive subtype of breast malignancy. Although some patients benefit from immune checkpoint therapy, current treatment methods rely mainly on chemotherapy. It is imperative to develop predictors of efficacy and identify individuals who will be sensitive to particular treatment regimens.

Regarding flotillin knockdown, drug resistance is reversed in colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines; this is associated with the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/AKT) pathway, as our previous experimental results indicated. However, the exact mechanism underlying this pathway remains unclear. PI3K inhibitor and activator were added separately to clarify the role of the PI3K pathway in reversing drug resistance.

The anionic species of antimony(V) and phosphate(V) are commonly found in the contaminated soil of mining areas, exerting a significant influence on the sorption of heavy metals and thus affecting their migration. This study quantitatively discussed the sorption mechanism of Sb and P in promoting the sorption of Cd or Cu on goethite through a series of extraction methods. In the single sorption system, the majority of Cu (87-98%) is adsorbed on goethite in the form of EDTA-extractable Cu (EF Cu, possibly inner-sphere complexes) under pH conditions of 3.

Genomic and evolutionary analysis of epidemic porcine hepatitis E virus (HEV) in the Tibetan Plateau was performed. Faecal samples were collected from 216 Tibetan pigs and 78 Tibetan Yorkshire (Large White) and 53 tissue samples from Yorkshire from the Linzhi City slaughterhouse. Total RNA was extracted from faeces and fragments of HEV open reading frame 2 (ORF2) detected by reverse transcription and nested polymerase chain reaction (RT-nPCR) and cloned.

A Ring-Shaped Lithium Metal Anode Enables High-Performance All-Solid-State Batteries Revealed by In Situ L-Band EPR Imaging.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Magnetic Resonance, Institute of Magnetic Resonance and Molecular Imaging in Medicine, School of Physics and Electronic Science, East China Normal University, Shanghai 200062, P. R. China.

In traditional operations of all-solid-state lithium metal batteries (ASSLMBs), a small thin lithium metal circular disk is employed as a lithium metal anode (LMA). However, ASSLMBs with a circular-disk LMA often fail in <150 cycles with low capacity retention. In this work, we developed a new ring-shaped LMA to improve cyclability.

Secondary Coordination Effects of Adjacent Metal Center in Metal-Nitrogen-Carbon Improve Scaling Relation of Oxygen Electrocatalysis.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

Hefei National Research Center for Physical Sciences at the Microscale, School of Chemistry and Materials Science, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui 230026, China.

Heterogenous single-atom catalysts (SACs) are reminiscent of homogeneous catalysts because of the similarity of structural motif of active sites, showing the potential of using the advantage of homogeneous catalysts to tackle challenges in hetereogenous catalysis. In heterogeneous oxygen electrocatalysis, the homogeneity of adsorption patterns of reaction intermediates leads to scaling relationships that limit their activities. In contrast, homogeneous catalysts can circumvent such limits by selectively altering the adsorption of intermediates through secondary coordination effects (SCEs).

Background: In Chinese phonogram processing studies, it is widely accepted that both character and non-character semantic radicals could be semantically activated. However, little attention was paid to the underlying workings that enabled the semantic radicals' semantic activation.

Purpose: The present study aimed to address the above issue by conducting two experiments.

Background: Previous studies on public compliance with policies during pandemics have primarily explained it from the perspectives of motivation theory, focusing on normative motivation (trust in policy-making institutions) and calculative motivation (fear of contracting the disease). However, the social amplification of a risk framework highlights that the media plays a key role in this process.

Objective: This study aims to integrate the motivation theory of compliance behavior and the social amplification of risk framework to uncover the "black boxes" of the mechanisms by which normative motivation and calculative motivation influence public policy compliance behavior through the use of media.
