Introduction: Ischemic heart disease (IHD) remains a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. This study evaluates the trends in IHD burden attributable to smoking, utilizing Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 (GBD 2021) data, across 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021. By examining age-standardized death rates (ASDR) and disability-adjusted life years (ASRDALYs), the study provides insights into the spatiotemporal variations associated with smokingattributable IHD in different sociodemographic regions.

Background: Several studies have demonstrated a notable increase in the incidence of atrial arrhythmias among individuals with atrial septal defect (ASD) occluder. Although the sequential dilation technique has been proposed as the mainstream technique for transseptal puncture with ASD occluder, it is associated with substantial risks and technical difficulties.
Case Summary: We report a patient who underwent catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation and had a large ASD occluder.

Microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) has emerged as a promising technique for environmental remediation, particularly for heavy metal removal. This study explores the potential of MICP for Cr(iii) removal, analyzing the effects of temperature, pH, calcium source addition, and initial Cr(iii) concentration on removal efficiency. The results show that Cr(iii) can be efficiently removed with a removal rate approaching 100% under optimal conditions (25 °C, pH 7.

To further improve the performance of PA66 and expand its applications, a new strategy was proposed to introduce an alicyclic structure into PA66 chain by the copolymerization method. Initially, 3,3'-dimethyl-4,4'-diaminodicyclohexylmethane (MACM) was reacted with 1,6-adipic acid to form MACM6 salt, and then, it was copolymerized with PA66 salt to synthesize PA66/MACM6 copolymers with alicyclic structures. PA66/MACM6 copolymers exhibited good thermal stabilities, and the presence of alicyclic structure had no significant effect on their thermal stabilities.

Bioremediation of trichloroethene (TCE)-contaminated sites often leads to groundwater acidification, while nitrate-polluted sites tend to generate alkalization. TCE and nitrate often coexist at contaminated sites; however, the pH variation caused by nitrate self-alkalization and TCE self-acidification and how these processes affect nitrate reduction and reductive dichlorination, have not been studied. This study investigated the interaction between nitrate and TCE, two common groundwater co-contaminants, during bioreduction in serum bottles containing synthetic mineral salt media and microbial consortia.

Phosphorus (P)-deficient soils serve as crucial habitats for endangered plant species. Microbiomes play pivotal roles in soil element cycling and in determining a plant's adaptability to the environment. However, the relationship between the endangered plant, microbiome, and soil stoichiometric traits, and how it affects plant adaption to P-deficient habitats remain largely unexplored.
