Understanding the adsorption behavior of intermediates at interfaces is crucial for various heterogeneous systems, but less attention has been paid to metal species. This study investigates the manipulation of Co spin states in ZnCoO spinel oxides and establishes their impact on metal ion adsorption. Using electrochemical sensing as a metric, we reveal a quasi-linear relationship between the adsorption affinity of metal ions and the high-spin state fraction of Co sites.

Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based solid-state polymer electrolyte (SPE) is a promising candidate for the next generation of safer lithium-metal batteries. However, the serious side reaction between PEO and lithium metal and the uneven deposition of lithium ions lead to the growth of lithium dendrites and the rapid decline of battery cycle life. Building a LiF-rich solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer is considered to be an effective means to solve the above problems.

The layer-stacking mode of a two-dimensional (2D) material plays a dominant role either in its topology or properties, but remains challenging to control. Herein, we developed alkali-metal ion-regulating synthetic control on the stacking structure of a vinylene-linked covalent triazine framework (termed spc-CTF) for improving hydrogen peroxide (HO) photoproduction. Upon the catalysis of EtONa in Knoevenagel polycondensation, a typical eclipsed stacking mode (spc-CTF-4@AA) was built, while a staggered one (spc-CTF-4@AB) was constructed using LiOH.

Unveiling the enzymatic pathway of UMG-SP2 urethanase: insights into polyurethane degradation at the atomic level.

Chem Sci

December 2024

LAQV@REQUIMTE, Departamento de Química e Bioquímica, Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade do Porto Rua do Campo Alegre s/n 4169-007 Porto Portugal

The recently discovered metagenomic urethanases UMG-SP1, UMG-SP2, and UMG-SP3 have emerged as promising tools to establish a bio-based recycling approach for polyurethane (PU) waste. These enzymes are capable of hydrolyzing urethane bonds in low molecular weight dicarbamates as well as in thermoplastic PU and the amide bond in polyamide employing a Ser-Ser -Lys triad for catalysis, similar to members of the amidase signature protein superfamily. Understanding the catalytic mechanism of these urethanases is crucial for enhancing their enzymatic activity and improving PU bio-recycling processes.

FAM20C: A key protein kinase in multiple diseases.

Genes Dis

March 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy and Cancer Center, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan 610041, China.

Family with sequence similarity 20 C (FAM20C) is a Golgi protein kinase that phosphorylates the serine residue in the S-x-E/pS motif of target proteins. FAM20C phosphorylates most secreted proteins, which play important roles in multiple biological processes, including cancer progression, biomineralization, and lipid homeostasis. Numerous studies have documented the potential contribution of FAM20C to the growth, invasion, and metastasis of glioma, breast cancer, and other cancers, as well as to the mineralization process of teeth and bone.

Domestic e-retailers acknowledge logistics service quality (LSQ) as a critical success factor in business excellence. However, exponential growth in cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) requires a re-evaluation of the relationship between LSQ and consumers repurchase intention. By integrating the technology acceptance model, this study investigates the impact of LSQ on repurchase intention based on the LSQ (experience)-satisfaction-repurchase intention consequence chain.

Background: Maternal nutrition profoundly influences offspring health, impacting both prenatal and early postnatal development. Previous studies have demonstrated that maternal dietary habits can affect key developmental pathways in the offsprings, including those related to lung function and disease susceptibility. However, the sex-specific impact of a maternal high-salt diet (HSD) on offspring lung injury remains poorly understood.

Introduction: While various demographic factors and underlying medical conditions are associated with the development of post-COVID conditions within a month after SARS-CoV-2 infection, less is known about factors associated with post-COVID symptoms that persist for 6 months or more. The aim of this review was to determine the association between underlying conditions, other risk factors, health behaviors, and the presence of symptoms ≥6 months after COVID-19.

Methods: Studies reporting on post-COVID symptoms were searched in databases, including Medline, EMBASE, Global Health, PsycInfo, Scopus, CINAHL, Proquest, and WHO COVID-19 literature, from the beginning of the pandemic until November 2022.

The elderly population's social networks and HIV perceptions: Evidence from China.

J Family Med Prim Care

December 2024

Center for Health Policy Studies, School of Public Health, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

Background: Previous studies have found that people with low participation in social activities and living alone were prone to have risky sexual behaviors, while people with high participation in social activities were less prone to have risky sexual behaviors. Based on the above assumptions, we conducted an analysis on elderly population's social networks and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) risky behaviors in China. In the survey study, considering the sensitivity of sexual behavior, HIV risk behavior of the elderly population is more difficult to measure, so the intermediate variable of HIV perceptions was used instead of the sexual behavioral variable.

The study of structure-activity relationships is a top priority in the development of nontraditional luminescent materials. In this work, nonconjugated polyurethanes (PUs) with full-color emission (red, green, and blue) are easily obtained by control of the diol monomer structure and the polymerization conditions. Selected diol monomers introduced single, double, or triple bond repeating units into the main chain of the PUs, in order to understand how unsaturated bonds and H-bonds affect their luminescence from a molecular orbital viewpoint.

Changes in terrestrial ecosystem carbon storage (CS) affect the global carbon cycle, thereby influencing global climate change. Land use/land cover (LULC) shifts are key drivers of CS changes, making it crucial to predict their impact on CS for low-carbon development. Most studies model future LULC by adjusting change proportions, leading to overly subjective simulations.
