Measuring transient functional connectivity is an important challenge in electroencephalogram (EEG) research. Here, the rich potential for insightful, discriminative information of brain activity offered by high-temporal resolution is confounded by the inherent noise of the medium and the spurious nature of correlations computed over short temporal windows. We propose a methodology to overcome these problems called filter average short-term (FAST) functional connectivity.

The aim of this study was to assess at 6-month and 1-year follow-up the effect of graded motor imagery (GMI) in addition to usual care on the affective and clinical outcomes in patients with chronic shoulder pain. A pre-post-intervention single-group study was conducted. One hundred forty-eight patients with chronic shoulder pain were included.

The surgical management of hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer may range from segmental resections to major or extended hepatectomies. The aim is to achieve complete removal of metastatic lesions while preserving adequate liver function. We present the case of a 42-year-old male patient with a history of glucose intolerance who presented with altered bowel movements and abdominal pain.

Background: Totally implantable venous access devices (TIVADs) are widely used in oncology patients to facilitate central venous access. Although they offer benefits, TIVADs can be associated with complications.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included all oncology patients 18 years or older who underwent TIVAD implantation between September 2015 and October 2019.

Background: Participant and Public Involvement in youth mental health research aims at making research more responsive to the needs of youth struggling with mental health issues, their parents, and mental health professionals and other stakeholders. Do characteristics of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in youth mental health research align with transparency and replication prerequisites as necessary conditions for translation? Relatedly, the question is addressed whether co-authorship should be assigned to youth involved in the study.
Methods: Here we address these questions re-visiting 50 PPI studies included in two recent systematic reviews of PPI on characteristics that are pertinent to questions about transparency, replicability, translatability, and co-authorship in PPI research.

This article presents a high-frequency characterization from 1 up to 10 GHz of electroplated conductive filaments in 3D printed microwave topologies. This study implements different microstrip lines and antennas to compare their performance as-is and with the electroplating process. The results for the microstrip lines show a significant decrease in losses for the electroplated devices, even reaching loss levels of pure copper devices.

Production of specialized metabolites are restricted to the metabolic capabilities of the organisms. Genome-scale models (GEM)s are useful to study the whole metabolism and to find metabolic engineering targets to increase the yield of a target compound. In this work we use a modified model of Streptomyces coelicolor M145 to simulate the production of lagmysin A (LP4) and the novel lagmysin B (LP2) lasso peptide, in the heterologous host Streptomyces coelicolor M1152.

Studies have shown the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the stool of both symptomatic and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients, enabling wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) to complement clinical monitoring. The emergence of variants can enhance viral transmissibility, highlighting the need for ongoing surveillance to detect and control infectious diseases. This study aimed to detect SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater from a treatment plant in San Pedro de la Paz, Chile, between January and November 2021.

Helicobacter pylori is a microorganism that is highly prevalent in mankind and closely linked to several gastroduodenal disorders. Though Helicobacter pylori was introduced to the scientific community in 1983 by Robin Warren and Barry Marshall, a closely related Helicobacter species had been described one hundred years earlier by the Italian pathologist Giulio Bizzozero in the canine stomach. In this review we analyze the different steps involved in the discovery of Helicobacter and provide a biography of the pioneer Giulio Bizzozero.

Introduction: The assessment of frailty is crucial for the management and care of older adults. The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) has been proposed as a useful and practical tool for this assessment, but its implementation requires translation and validation to the specific cultural context.
Methods: A standardized process of translation and cultural adaptation of the CFS in its second version was carried out.

Exploring the nuanced and often elusive realm of pre-reflective consciousness presents a methodological challenge, as it involves capturing experiences that arise prior to reflective thought and language. This article introduces Phenomenological Mapping, an innovative research method designed to systematically study the pre-reflective dimensions of human experience. Grounded in the foundational theories of Edmund Husserl (2012), Maurice Merleau-Ponty (2013), and Martin Heidegger (1992, 2008), the approach also integrates contemporary perspectives from Dan Zahavi (1999, Contemporary Phenomenology and Qualitative Research 5(1), 1-17, 2021), Shaun Gallagher (2006, 2017), and Evan Thompson (2010, 2017).

Deforestation and forest degradation are key drivers of biodiversity loss and global environmental change. Ecosystem restoration is recognized as a global priority to counter these processes. Forest restoration efforts have commonly adopted a predominantly ecological approach, without including broader socioeconomic variables and the characteristics of the rural context.
