In this study, the influences of inorganic nitrogen source (INS) and organic nitrogen source (ONS) supplementation during the wine fermentation process using three non-Saccharomyces yeasts (, , and ) were analyzed. Diamine phosphate (DAP) was used as an INS, and lees enzymatic hydrolysate was used as an ONS. Complete alcoholic fermentation and a higher concentration of volatile compounds were obtained in fermentations with ONS, mainly esters from 81 to 4564 µg/L, alcohols from 231 to 7294 µg/L, and isoamyl acetate ester compounds from 12.

This study explored the effect of incorporating cellulose and starch nanoparticles, obtained from the Willd plant, on the physical and chemical properties of starch-based films derived from the same plant. Additionally, the synergistic effect of combining the nanostructures was assessed. The nanocomposite biopolymer films were prepared by the casting method using 1 and 3 wt% concentrations of the nanostructures (CNCs: cellulose nanocrystals, CNFs: cellulose nanofibers, SNCs: starch nanocrystals), or their blend.

This study investigates the effect of incorporating heavy dopant atoms on the topological transitions in the energy spectrum of graphene, as well as on its thermodynamic properties. A tight-binding model is employed that incorporates a lattice composition parameter associated with the dopant's effect to obtain the electronic spectrum of graphene. Thus, the substitutional atoms in the lattice impact the electronic structure of graphene by altering the connectivity of the Dirac cones and the symmetry of the energy surface in their spectrum.

We present an algebraic method to derive the structure at the basis of the mapping of bosonic algebras of creation and annihilation operators into fermionic algebras, and vice versa, introducing a suitable identification between bosonic and fermionic generators. The algebraic structure thus obtained corresponds to a deformed Grassmann-type algebra, involving anticommuting Grassmann-type variables. The role played by the latter in implementing gauge invariance in second quantization within our procedure is then discussed.

Singular spectrum analysis is a powerful nonparametric technique used to decompose the original time series into a set of components that can be interpreted as trend, seasonal, and noise. For their part, neural networks are a family of information-processing techniques capable of approximating highly nonlinear functions. This study proposes to improve the precision in the prediction of air quality.

We investigate multimodal seismicity by analyzing it as the result of multiple seismic sources. We examine three case studies: the Redoubt and Spurr regions in Alaska, where volcanic and subduction-related seismicity occur, and the Kii Peninsula in Japan, where shallow and deep earthquakes are clearly separated. To understand this phenomenon, we perform spatial, temporal, and magnitude analyses.

Unlabelled: Tenacibaculosis, caused by species, is a significant disease in aquaculture, leading to high mortality and economic losses. Antibiotic treatment raises concerns about resistance, making phage therapy an interesting alternative. Analyzing phage traces in genomes is crucial for developing these bacteriophage-based strategies.

: Empirical antibacterial therapy for febrile neutropenia reduces mortality due to Gram-negative blood stream infections (BSIs). Pediatric guidelines recommend monotherapy with an antipseudomonal beta-lactam or a carbapenem and to add a second anti-Gram-negative agent in selected situations. We evaluated the changes in the proportions of resistance of beta-lactam monotherapies vs.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects over 1% of population over age 60. It is defined by motor and nonmotor symptoms including a spectrum of cognitive impairments known as Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD). Currently, the only US Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment for PDD is rivastigmine, which inhibits acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase increasing the level of acetylcholine in the brain.

Latin Americans have a rich genetic make-up that translates into heterogeneous fractions of the autosomal genome in runs of homozygosity (F) and heterogeneous types and proportions of indigenous American ancestry. While autozygosity has been linked to several human diseases, very little is known about the relationship between inbreeding, genetic ancestry, and cancer risk in Latin Americans. Chile has one of the highest incidences of gallbladder cancer (GBC) in the world, and we investigated the association between inbreeding, GBC, gallstone disease (GSD), and body mass index (BMI) in 4029 genetically admixed Chileans.

Edible mushrooms have been part of the human diet for centuries. Traditionally, they have been used for culinary and medicinal purposes due to their chemical composition and nutritional value, including their high antioxidant activity attributed to key metabolites such as phenolic compounds and ergothioneine. mushrooms, known for their potent antioxidant activity, are prone to spoilage shortly after harvest, making preservation methods necessary.

Japanese adults typically have healthier lipid profiles than American and European adults and a lower prevalence and later onset of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Many Japanese also have uniquely elevated levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). The following analysis examined the relationship between HDL-C level and HDL-C peroxide content, a bioindicator of unhealthy lipid metabolism in Japanese adults.

Breast cancer is a global health issue that, when in the metastasis stage, is characterized by the lack of estrogen receptor-α, the progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth receptor expressions. The present study analyzed the differential gene expression related to the immune system affected by ionizing radiation and estrogen in cell lines derived from an experimental breast cancer model that was previously developed; where the immortalized human breast epithelial cell line MCF-10F, a triple-negative breast cancer cell line, was exposed to low doses of high linear energy transfer α particle radiation (150 keV/μm), it subsequently grew in the presence or absence of 17β-estradiol. Results indicated that interferon-related developmental regulator 1 gene expression was affected in the estrogen-treated cell line; this interferon, as well as the Interferon-Induced Transmembrane protein 2, and the TNF alpha-induced Protein 6 gene expression levels were higher than the control in the Alpha3 cell line.
