A multi-center comparison of surgical techniques for corpus Callosotomy in pediatric drug-resistant epilepsy.

Objectives: Corpus callosotomy (CC) is used to reduce seizures, primarily in patients with generalized drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). The invasive nature of the procedure contributes to underutilization despite its potential superiority to other palliative procedures. The goal of this study was to use a multi-institutional epilepsy surgery database to characterize the use of CC across participating centers.

ACR Appropriateness Criteria® Congenital or Acquired Heart Disease.

Pediatric heart disease is a large and diverse field with an overall prevalence estimated at 6 to 13 per 1,000 live births. This document discusses appropriateness of advanced imaging for a broad range of variants. Diseases covered include tetralogy of Fallot, transposition of great arteries, congenital or acquired pediatric coronary artery abnormality, single ventricle, aortopathy, anomalous pulmonary venous return, aortopathy and aortic coarctation, with indications for advanced imaging spanning the entire natural history of the disease in children and adults, including initial diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment monitoring, and early detection of complications.

Fever of Unknown Origin.

Fever of unknown origin in adolescents is a challenging disease state for which potential underlying etiology can include infectious, non-infectious inflammatory, and malignancy processes. Careful and thorough history (including exposure history), serial examination, and targeted laboratory and imaging testing is critical for these patients. In adolescents in which an etiology is discovered, infectious etiology remains the most prevalent, followed by non-infectious inflammatory diseases.

Antegrade Continence Enema Alone for the Management of Functional Constipation and Segmental Colonic Dysmotility (ACE-FC): A Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Learning Consortium Study.

Objective:  The purpose of the study was to determine if antegrade continence enema (ACE) alone is an effective treatment for patients with severe functional constipation and segmental colonic dysmotility.

Methods:  A retrospective study of patients with functional constipation and segmental colonic dysmotility who underwent ACE as their initial means of management. Data was collected from six participating sites in the Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Learning Consortium.

Sickle cell disease and adolescents' perspectives on self-care management resources.

Background: Adolescents with sickle cell disease (SCD) face unique challenges, especially during the critical health care transition from pediatric to adult care. The purpose of this study was to gather the perspectives of adolescents living with SCD and to describe their self-care management experiences prior to their move into the adult health care system.

Methods: Guided by the Theory of Self-Care Management for Sickle Cell Disease, this qualitative descriptive study used semi-structured interviews with 11 adolescents with SCD (M = 16.

The Effect of Udenafil on Heart Rate and Blood Pressure in Adolescents With the Fontan Circulation.

The Fontan Udenafil Exercise Longitudinal (FUEL) trial showed that treatment with udenafil was associated with improved exercise performance at the ventilatory anaerobic threshold in children with Fontan physiology. However, it is not known how the initiation of phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor therapy affects heart rate and blood pressure in this population. These data may help inform patient selection and monitoring after the initiation of udenafil therapy.

Association between goal nutrition and intubation in patients with bronchiolitis on noninvasive ventilation: A retrospective cohort study.

Background: Acute bronchiolitis causes many hospitalizations in children younger than 2 years. Early enteral nutrition is associated with improved outcomes in these patients. However, often nutrition is withheld when patients require noninvasive respiratory support because of the risk of aspiration worsening respiratory failure, possibly requiring intubation.

Assessment of infant gonadal dose irradiated from urine-contaminated diapers during diuretic renal scintigraphy.

Objective: To estimate the gonadal doses irradiated from urine- contaminated diapers during diuretic renal scintigraphy.

Methods: Images of 31 patients (18 males and 13 females) with urine-contaminated diapers during 99m Tc-MAG3 renal scintigraphy were analyzed. The count rate of the diapers was converted into a time-activity curve based on the calibrated factor of the gamma camera system.

Outcomes in Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults With Down Syndrome and ALL: A Report From the Children's Oncology Group.

Purpose: Patients with Down syndrome (DS) and B-ALL experience increased rates of relapse, toxicity, and death. We report results for patients with DS B-ALL enrolled on Children's Oncology Group trials between 2003 and 2019.

Methods: We analyzed data for DS (n = 743) and non-DS (n = 20,067) patients age 1-30 years on four B-ALL standard-risk (SR) and high-risk trials.

Identifying Barriers and Facilitators to Care for Infants with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia After NICU Discharge: A Prospective Study of Parents and Clinical Stakeholders.

Everolimus in combination with vandetanib in children, adolescents, and young adults: a phase I study.

Background: Combined use of inhibitors of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-2) receptors is a potential strategy to overcome resistance to either class of drugs when used alone.

Patients And Methods: We designed a phase 1 trial to test the drug combination of a multikinase VEGF receptor 2 inhibitor, vandetanib, and an mTOR inhibitor, everolimus, in a pediatric and young adult patient cohort with advanced cancers. Background: Emergency department (ED) based influenza vaccine (IV) programs have been successful in adults; however, little is known about pediatric ED IV programs in terms of prevalence, feasibility, or successful implementation.

Purpose: Patients with relapsed or refractory T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) or lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) have limited therapeutic options. Clinical use of genomic profiling provides an opportunity to identify targetable alterations to inform therapy.

Experimental Design: We describe a cohort of 14 pediatric patients with relapsed or refractory T-ALL enrolled on the Leukemia Precision-based Therapy (LEAP) Consortium trial (NCT02670525) and a patient with T-LBL, discovering alterations in platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α (PDGFRA) in 3 of these patients.

CUX1-related neurodevelopmental disorder: deep insights into phenotype-genotype spectrum and underlying pathology.

Heterozygous, pathogenic CUX1 variants are associated with global developmental delay or intellectual disability. Methods: This multicentre, retrospective cohort study included adults with ccTGA seen at a congenital heart disease centre. Clinical data from initial and most recent visits were obtained.
