This case describes an unusual presentation of a young adult with a very late recurrence of stage MS neuroblastoma over 20 years after initial diagnosis. Tumor histology at relapse demonstrated ganglioneuromatous foci within her undifferentiated tumor. In combination with evidence of altered catecholamine metabolism, it proposes a case for dedifferentiation of unresected ganglioneuromatous lesions as the etiology of her recurrence of the disease.

Early surgical intervention in infants with complex CHD results in significant disruptions to their respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems, which are all instrumental to the development of safe and efficient oral feeding skills. Standardised assessments or treatment protocols are not currently available for this unique population, requiring the clinician to rely on knowledge based on neonatal literature. Clinicians need to be skilled at evaluating and analysing these systems to develop an appropriate treatment plan to improve oral feeding skill and safety, while considering post-operative recovery in the infant with complex CHD.

Developing an Entrustable Professional Activity to Improve the Care of LGBTQ+ Youth.

Acad Pediatr

May 2023

Department of Pediatrics (B Wueste), UT Health San Antonio, Tex.

Despite the multitude of health inequities often experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ)+ youth, few training programs consistently and comprehensively address these disparities through education and assessment of learners. Over the past decade, programs have begun to incrementally increase the number of hours dedicated to LGBTQ+ health training; however, the lack of standardization for curricula and assessment remains a significant barrier. As medical education shifts to a competency-based approach, focusing on patient outcomes and the competencies trainees must achieve to meet those outcomes, we must take this opportunity to develop curricula and assessment tools that emphasize inclusive, affirming, equitable, and culturally humble care for LGBTQ+ youth.

The present study compared parent-rated executive functioning in pediatric medulloblastoma (MB) and pilocytic astrocytoma (PA) survivors. Although standard care for both includes surgical resection, children with MB additionally receive chemotherapy and craniospinal irradiation. Given well-documented neurocognitive late effects associated with the latter, we anticipated poor parent-reported executive functioning in MB survivors.

Introduction: Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR)-guided cardiac catheterization is becoming more widespread due to the ability to acquire both functional CMR measurements and diagnostic catheterization data without exposing patients to ionizing radiation. However, the real-time imaging sequences used for catheter guidance during these procedures are limited in resolution and the anatomical detail they can provide. In this study, we propose a passive catheter tracking approach which simultaneously improves catheter tracking and visualization of the anatomy.
