Background: Pediatric nephroblastoma is the most common abdominal malignancy in children. Hyperfibrinogenemia and thrombocytosis are often associated with malignancy and poor prognosis. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between high fibrinogen and platelet levels and the clinicopathologic features as well as overall survival in pediatric nephroblastoma.

Motor-free visual perception abilities are important reference indicator for children's literacy skills. In the absence of Chinese norms, this study utilized the motor-free visual perception test-4 (MVPT-4) to assess the visual perception abilities of children aged 5-12 years in Xuzhou, China, to lay the foundation for establishing standardized norms in China. From May to July 2023, a stratified random sampling method was used to conduct MVPT-4 evaluation on 525 kindergarten and primary school children in Xuzhou, China.

Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common kidney cancer in infants and young children. The determination of the clonality of bilateral WTs is critical to the treatment, because lineage-independent and metastatic tumors may require different treatment strategies. Here we found synchronous bilateral WT (n = 24 tumors from 12 patients) responded differently to preoperative chemotherapy.

Kawasaki disease (KD), characterized by systematic vasculitis, is a leading cause of pediatric heart disease. Although recent studies have highlighted the critical role of deubiquitinases in vascular pathophysiology, their specific contribution to KD remains largely unknown. Herein, we investigated the function of the deubiquitinase USP7 in both KD patients and a CAWS-induced KD murine model.

Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis primarily affecting the coronary arteries in children. Despite growing attention to its symptoms and pathogenesis, the exact mechanisms of KD remain unclear. Mitophagy plays a critical role in inflammation regulation, however, its significance in KD has only been minimally explored.

Objective: Soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) is associated with the prognosis of some cardiac diseases, but studies on sST2 and the prognosis of patients with myocarditis are rare. This study investigated the relationship between major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) and sST2 during hospitalization in pediatric patients with myocarditis.

Methods: This was a single-center retrospective cohort study.

Objective: To summarize the experience with intraluminal esophageal stretching elongation (ILESE) in the successful treatment of long-gap esophageal atresia (LGEA) at a single center.

Methods: Clinical data of 68 neonates who underwent LGEA between February 2015 and January 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Four patients died of multiple associated severe malformations and did not undergo ILESE.

Objective: To investigate the role of FBLN5in renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), in particular on the tumor's immune microenvironment, including children and young adults.

Methods: FBLN5 expression in tumor and normal samples was explored using SangerBox, TIMER2.0, GEPIA, UALCAN, HPA databases.

Background: Previous reports have shown a potential causal impact of vasectomy on prostate cancer (PCa). The objective of this study was to investigate the association between vasectomy and PCa, while evaluating the influence of confounding factors such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening and body mass index (BMI).

Methods: Mendelian randomization (MR) study using summary statistics from genome-wide associations of vasectomy (462,933 European ancestry), ever had PSA test (200,410 European ancestry), time since last PSA test (46,104 European ancestry), BMI (152,893 European males) and PCa (79,148 cases, 61,106 controls, European ancestry).

Background And Aims: To compare the efficacy and safety of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) + lenvatinib (TACE+L) versus lenvatinib (L) monotherapy in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma by a meta-analysis.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP e-Journals Database, and Wanfang Data were systematically searched to collate literature comparing TACE+L with L alone for the treatment of advanced liver cancer. The literature search, quality assessment, and data extraction were performed independently by two reviewers.

Introduction: Preoperative hormone therapy (PHT) holds promise for obtaining better surgical conditions for patients undergoing hypospadias correction and increasing the success rate. However, the application and effects of PHT remain uncertain owing to a lack of comprehensive evaluation, thus limiting treatment strategies and development of standardized guidelines. This study aimed to review the following (ⅰ) the criteria and regimens of PHT (ⅱ) its impact on penile growth, postoperative complications, and side effects (ⅲ) and sources of inconsistent clinical outcomes.

Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is a common clinical problem with a high mortality rate, resulting from loss of blood flow to an intestinal segment. Adenosine serves a protective role in intestinal I/R injury; however, its potential mechanism is not completely understood. The present study aimed to investigate the protective effects of adenosine A receptor (AR) agonists CPA and LUF6941 and whether their mechanisms are associated with the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

Importance: Perioperative respiratory adverse events (PRAEs) are the most common complication during pediatric anesthesia, and they may be affected by the administration of preoperative sedatives.

Objective: To investigate the effect of intranasal dexmedetomidine or midazolam used for premedication on the occurrence of PRAEs.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This single-center, double-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted among children aged 0 to 12 years undergoing elective tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy from October 2020 to June 2021 at Children's Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, Xuzhou, China.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) are the production of renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). The current study is to elucidate a mechanism of SIRT2 tyrosine nitration to accelerate the cell apoptosis induced by peroxynitrite (ONOO‾), the most reactive and deleterious RNS type in renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Our results demonstrate that there is a significant enhancement of the 3-nitrotyrosine levels in renal tissues of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) patients and rats that underwent renal I/R, and a positive correlation between the 3-nitrotyrosine level and renal function impairment, indicative of an accumulation of peroxynitrite.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and also the most invasive brain cancer. GBM progression is rapid and its prognosis is poor. Therefore, finding molecular targets in GBM is a critical goal that could also play important roles in clinical diagnostics and treatments to improve patient prognosis.

Osteosarcoma frequently presents as recurrence and metastasis, even if the primary lesion was eradicated and/or radiotherapy and chemotherapy were administered. Osteosarcoma cancer stem cells (CSCs) are one of the key factors for the recurrence and metastasis of osteosarcoma. We have shown that interleukin-24 (IL-24) inhibits osteosarcoma cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro.

Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction is a major cause of death. The present study explored whether angiotensin (Ang)-(1-7), an important biologically active peptide of the renin-angiotensin system, could improve cardiac dysfunction and attenuate inflammation and apoptosis. Experiments were carried out in mice and in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or Ang-(1-7).

Ubiquitination is a dynamic and reversible process of a specific modification of target proteins catalyzed by a series of ubiquitination enzymes. Because of the extensive range of substrates, ubiquitination plays a crucial role in the localization, metabolism, regulation, and degradation of proteins. Although the treatment of glioma has been improved, the survival rate of patients is still not satisfactory.
