Background: Gastrojejunostomy tube (GJT) placement is commonly performed for enteral access and post-pyloric feeding in children with gastric feeding intolerance. Prior studies have suggested the risk of surgical complications is elevated in infants compared to older children. We aim to characterize GJT usage in children and investigate the risk factors for postoperative complications through two national databases.

Objectives: Despite the growing evidence of the clinical utility of blood-brain biomarkers in adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI), less is known about the performance of these biomarkers in children. We characterize age-dependent differences in levels of ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in children without TBI.
Methods: Plasma biobank specimens from children and adolescents aged 0-<19 years without TBI were obtained, and UCH-L1 and GFAP levels were quantified.

Purpose: Antegrade colonic enemas (ACE) can be an effective management option for defecation disorders and improve quality of life. Best practice regarding channel placement is unclear and variation may exist around preferred initial type of channel, age at placement, and underlying diagnoses. We aimed to describe practice patterns and patient characteristics around ACE channel placement.

Early allograft dysfunction (EAD) is a functional hepatic insufficiency within a week of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and is associated with morbidity and mortality. The etiology of EAD is multifactorial and largely driven by ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI), a phenomenon characterized by oxygen scarcity followed by paradoxical oxidative stress and inflammation. With the expanded use of marginal allografts more susceptible to IRI, the incidence of EAD may be increasing.

Artificial intelligence (AI) broadly describes a branch of computer science focused on developing machines capable of performing tasks typically associated with human intelligence. Those who connect AI with the world of science fiction may meet its growing rise with hesitancy or outright skepticism. However, AI is becoming increasingly pervasive in our society, from algorithms helping to sift through airline fares to substituting words in emails and SMS text messages based on user choices.

In October 2022, the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence hosted an educational symposium entitled, "Considering Functional Outcomes as Efficacy Endpoints in Pediatric Low-Grade Glioma (pLGG) Clinical Trials." The symposium brought together patient advocates, regulators from the FDA and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and an international group of academic thought leaders in the field of pediatric neuro-oncology to discuss the potential role of functional outcomes, including visual acuity, motor function, and neurocognitive performance, as endpoints in clinical trials enrolling patients with pLGG. The panel discussed challenges and opportunities regarding the selection, implementation, and evaluation of clinical outcome assessments in these functional domains and outlined key considerations for their inclusion in future clinical trial design and role in new drug development.

One of the earliest neurobiological findings in autism has been the differences in the thalamocortical pathway connectivity, suggesting the vital role thalamus plays in human experience. The present functional MRI study investigated resting-state functional connectivity of the thalamus in 49 (autistic, ADHD, and neurotypical) young adults. All participants underwent structural MRI and eyes-open resting state functional MRI scans.

Human interferon-induced transmembrane (IFITM) proteins inhibit the fusion of a broad spectrum of enveloped viruses, both when expressed in target cells and when present in infected cells. Upon expression in infected cells, IFITMs incorporate into progeny virions and reduce their infectivity by a poorly understood mechanism. Since only a few envelope glycoproteins (Envs) are present on HIV-1 particles, and Env clustering has been proposed to be essential for optimal infectivity, we asked if IFITM protein incorporation modulates HIV-1 Env clustering.

We show that inactivating AMPK in a genetic medulloblastoma model depletes tumor stem cells and slows progression. In medulloblastoma, the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor, drug-resistant stem cells co-exist with transit-amplifying cells and terminally differentiated neuronal progeny. Prior studies show that -dependent glycolysis promotes medulloblastoma progression by suppressing neural differentiation.

Introduction: Dynamic computed tomography (dCT) gives real-time physiological information and objective descriptions of airway narrowing in tracheobronchomalacia (TBM). There is a paucity of literature in the evaluation of TBM by dCT in premature infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). The aim of this study is to describe the findings of dCT and resultant changes in management in premature infants with TBM.

Autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are comorbid neurodevelopmental disorders that share common and distinct neurobiological mechanisms, with disrupted brain connectivity patterns being a hallmark feature of both conditions. It is challenging to gain a mechanistic understanding of the underlying disorder, because brain connectivity changes in autism and ADHD are heterogeneous. The present resting state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) study focuses on investigating the shared and distinct resting state-fMRI connectivity (rsFC) patterns in autistic and ADHD adults using multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA).

The impact of a dilated left ventricular (LV) on right ventricular (RV) diastolic function has not been investigated. We hypothesized that in patients with a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), LV dilation causes elevation of the RV end-diastolic pressure (RVEDP) through ventricular-ventricular interaction. We identified patients' ages 6 months to 18 years who underwent transcatheter PDA closure at our center from 2010 to 2019.

Purpose:: Clear indications do not exist for consolidative radiotherapy (CRT) in relapsed and refractory pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma (rrpHL). Increasing numbers of rrpHL patients are radiation naïve, as response-adapted front-line therapies omit CRT for favorable responses. We evaluated practice patterns among treating oncologists for rrpHL.

To circumvent this, our group has previously optimized fluorescence-activated cell sorting to purify HRS cells. Using this approach, we now report the whole-genome sequencing landscape of HRS cells and reconstruct the chronology and likely etiology of pathogenic events leading to cHL.
