The emergence of biologic therapies for the management of asthma has been a revolutionary change in our capacity to manage this disease. Since the launch of omalizumab, several other biologics have been marketed or are close to being marketed, suggesting that a plethora of monoclonal antibodies can be expected in the coming years. This will facilitate the transition to the paradigm of personalized medicine, but on the other hand will decisively further complicate the choice of the most appropriate treatment, in the absence of reliable enough biological markers.

Background: Different questionnaires have been developed to measure quality of life (QoL) in patients with food allergy. Our aim was to validate a Spanish translation of the Food Allergy Independent Measure (FAIM) and the EuroPrevall Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire-Child Form (FAQLQ-CF) for children aged 8-12 years.

Introduction: Many obstacles limit the development of pharmacologic studies in children, in particular ethical and practical issues. Defining challenge-proven coexistent nut and sesame seed allergy: A prospective multicenter European study.

Background: Despite remarkable advances in our understanding of asthma, there are still several unmet needs associated with the management of pediatric asthma.

Methods: A two-day, face-to-face meeting was held in London, United Kingdom, on October 28 and 29, 2017, involving a group of international expert clinicians and scientists in asthma management to discuss the challenges and unmet needs that remain to be addressed in pediatric asthma.

Results: These unmet needs include a lack of clinical efficacy and safety evidence, and limited availability of non-steroid-based alternative therapies in patients <6 years of age.

In 1990, the first dedicated journal, Pediatric Allergy and Immunology (PAI), was founded. Children with severe asthma continue to experience symptoms despite long-term treatment with high doses of corticosteroids. Moreover, the heterogeneous nature of asthma and the presence of several phenotypes have limited our ability to develop an optimized management strategy for these patients. Adequate management of severe asthma in children necessitates a detailed understanding of what makes asthma difficult to control, knowledge of the causal factors, review of diagnosis for accurate identification of pediatric patients with severe asthma and a precise definition of the phenotypes to be able to better target the therapy.

Peanut and tree nut allergies have become a public health problem over the last 2 decades. The diagnostic procedure relies on a suggestive history, as well as on evidence of sensitization (skin prick testing and/or specific IgE blood testing), followed in selected cases by a food challenge. Standard IgE tests may be positive to more than 1 nut, due to cross-reactivity (allergens common to several nuts) or cosensitivity (frequently associated positive test results without cross-reactivity).
