Urinary tract dilations (UTDs) are the most frequent prenatal renal anomaly. The spectrum of etiologies causing UTD ranges from mild spontaneously resolving obstruction to severe upper and lower urinary tract obstruction or reflux. The early recognition and management of these anomalies allows for improved renal endowment prenatally and ultimately better outcome for the child.

Background And Objective: Trichuriasis caused by the human whipworm Trichuris trichiura poses a significant public health concern. Albendazole-ivermectin co-medication is currently the most effective treatment. Studies conducted in Tanzania and Côte d'Ivoire unveiled differences in efficacy for albendazole-ivermectin combination therapy in both countries.

Objectives: Pertussis and influenza are endemic infections and associated with relevant morbidity and mortality in newborns and young infants. The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health has recommended influenza vaccination since 2011 and pertussis vaccination in pregnancy (ViP) since 2013 and expanded to repetition in each pregnancy since 2017. ViP is safe and effective in preventing severe diseases, but implementation is a challenge.

This article introduces a novel concept where advanced technologies have been leveraged to produce a modular walking orthosis (MOWA) within a completely digital process chain. All processes of this new supply chain are described step-by-step. The prescription and treatment of lower leg orthoses for individuals with paralysis or muscle weakness, particularly cerebral palsy (CP), are complex.

Secondary electrospray ionization-high resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) is an established technique in the field of breath analysis characterized by its short analysis time, as well as high levels of sensitivity and selectivity. Traditionally, SESI-HRMS has been used for real-time breath analysis, which requires subjects to be at the location of the analytical platform. Therefore, it limits the possibilities for an introduction of this methodology in day-to-day clinical practice.

Unlabelled: Certain arylsulfonamides (ArSulf) induce an interaction between the E3 ligase substrate adaptor DCAF15 and the critical splicing factor RBM39, ultimately causing its degradation. However, degradation of a splicing factor introduces complex pleiotropic effects that are difficult to untangle, since, aside from direct protein degradation, downstream transcriptional effects also influence the proteome. By overlaying transcriptional data and proteome datasets, we distinguish transcriptional from direct degradation effects, pinpointing those proteins most impacted by splicing changes.

Correct management of infants after minor head trauma is crucial to minimize the risk to miss clinically important traumatic brain injury (ciTBI). Current practices typically involve CT or in-hospital surveillance. Cranial ultrasound (CUS) provides a radiation-free and fast alternative.

Introduction: Swiss national recommendations advise, since end of 2018, supporting women with HIV who wish to breastfeed. Our objective is to describe the motivational factors and the outcome of these women and of their infants.
Methods: mothers included in MoCHiV with a delivery between January 2019 and February 2021 who fulfilled the criteria of the "optimal scenario" (adherence to cART, regular clinical care, and suppressed HIV plasma viral load (pVL) of <50 RNA copies/ml) and who decided to breastfeed after a shared decision-making process, were approached to participate in this nested study and asked to fill-in a questionnaire exploring the main motivating factors for breastfeeding.

Objective: One of the main medical treatment options for monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) is the vasopressin analog desmopressin. But not all children respond to desmopressin treatment, and no reliable treatment predictor has yet been established. We hypothesize that plasma copeptin, a surrogate marker for vasopressin, can be used to predict treatment response to desmopressin in children with MNE.

Introduction: Neurological soft signs (NSS) are minor deviations from the norm in motor performance that are commonly assessed using neurological examinations. NSS may be of clinical relevance for evaluating the developmental status of adolescents. Here we investigate whether quantitative force plate measures may add relevant information to observer-based neurological examinations.

Bone sarcomas of the lower extremities are rare malignancies occurring mostly amongst adolescents and young adults. Necessarily, the therapy conducted in sarcoma centers is multimodal and multidisciplinary. In certain cases, in a metastasis free situation with adequate therapy, an overall survival rate of 90% can be achieved.

Neurological soft signs (NSS) are minor deviations in motor performance. During childhood and adolescence, NSS are examined for functional motor phenotyping to describe development, to screen for comorbidities, and to identify developmental vulnerabilities. Here, we investigate underlying brain structure alterations in association with NSS in physically trained adolescents.

Patients And Methods: Tumour resection and reconstruction by using VFG (n=17) and NVFG (n=36) were performed in 53 patients at our institute (range=3-65 years of age, mean: 21.

Introduction: The lack of ideal measurement of treatment efficacy is a well acknowledged problem in the epilepsy community, both in clinical care and clinical trials. Whilst still the current gold-standard, self-reported seizure frequency significantly underestimates the true number of seizures and does not account for any other at least equally important outcome parameters, such as neurodevelopment and cognition. With the rise of disease modifying treatments, the need for more reliable endpoints in practice and clinical trials becomes more pressing.

Introduction: Antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) are essential for minimizing the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, while improving patient outcomes. The current status of ASP in the field of organ transplantation in Switzerland has not been well characterized.
Methods: We describe in this article the current status of ASP and discuss challenges and opportunities of implementing ASP dedicated to solid-organ transplant (SOT) recipients in Switzerland.

Current dose reductions recommended for amoxicillin in patients with impaired kidney function could lead to suboptimal treatments. In a prospective, observational study in hospitalized adults with varying kidney function treated with an IV or oral dose of amoxicillin, amoxicillin concentrations were measured in 1−2 samples on the second day of treatment. Pharmacometric modelling and simulations were performed to evaluate the probability of target attainment (PTA) for 40% of the time above MIC following standard (1000 mg q6h), reduced or increased IV dosing strategies.

Norovirus is a leading cause of epidemic acute gastroenteritis. More than 30 genotypes circulate in humans, some are common, and others are only sporadically detected. Here, we investigated whether serology can be used to determine which genotypes infect children.

Purpose: The Knee Injury Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for children (KOOS-Child) is a self-administered, valid and reliable questionnaire for children and adolescents with knee disorders such as Osgood Schlatter disease, anterior knee pain, and patella dislocation. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt the German version of the KOOS-Child questionnaire and test the reliability in two groups of children, one treated conservatively and the other surgically.
Methods: A forward-backward translation of the original questionnaire into the German language was conducted.
