Background: Infectious diseases are among the leading causes of death and disability and are recognized as a major cause of health loss globally. At the same time, frailty as a geriatric syndrome is a rapidly growing major public health problem. However, few studies have investigated the incidence and risk of infectious diseases in frail older people.

Background: Neuroblastoma (NB) is a well-known pediatric malignancy intertwined with neurodevelopment. Previously implicated in neuronal differentiation, Zinc Finger Protein 536 (ZNF536) has emerged as a promising prognostic and immune-related biomarker in our pan-cancer analysis.
Methods: Single-cell RNA transcriptome sequencing, bulk transcriptome analysis, and immuno-histochemistry were used to assess ZNF536 expression and its association with prognosis.

The recent discovery of pathogenic antibodies targeting cell adhesion molecules of the node of Ranvier has prompted efforts to develop a new classification for a subset of antibody-mediated peripheral neuropathies. These autoimmune nodo- and paranodopathies encompass epitopes such as neurofascin 155, neurofascin 186, contactin-1, and contactin-associated protein 1, with a high likelihood of involving additional yet unidentified proteins. So far, the investigation of this subset of patients was primarily focused on adults, with only rare reports of pediatric cases.

Carbohydrate-protein interactions play fundamental roles in numerous aspects of biological activities, and the search for new carbohydrate (CHO)-binding proteins (CBPs) has long been a research focus. In this study, through the analysis of CBP structures, we identified significant enrichment of aromatic residues in CHO-binding regions. We further summarized the structural features of these aromatic rings within the CHO-stacking region, namely "exposing" and "proximity" features, and developed a screening algorithm that can identify CHO-stacking Trp (tryptophan) residues based on these two features.

Synthetic genome readers/regulators (SynGRs) are bifunctional molecules that are rationally designed to bind specific genomic sequences and engage cellular machinery that regulates the expression of targeted genes. The prototypical SynGR1 targets GAA trinucleotide repeats and recruits the BET family of transcriptional regulatory proteins via a flexibly tethered ligand, JQ1. This pan-BET ligand binds both tandem bromodomains of BET proteins (BD1 and BD2).

Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) diagnosis still lacks a gold standard or ideal diagnostic marker. Unlike other epigenetic mechanisms, non-coding RNAs regulate post-transcriptional levels. The information on non-coding RNAs in the field of GHD is limited.

Purpose: Variants in result in a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a variable clinical presentation of symptoms including developmental delay, epilepsy, motor dysfunction, and autism spectrum disorder. haploinsufficiency has been confirmed as the predominant pathway of related neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), however, the molecular mechanism underlying the variable clinical presentation remains unclear.
Methods: Here, through work of the Undiagnosed Diseases Network, we identify an undiagnosed individual with an inherited p.

Background: The best antiviral treatment for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) poses a complex challenge. The treatment effect of the combination of nucleoside analogues (NAs) and pegylated interferon alpha (PegIFN) was still in debate.
Methods: We studied patients treated with NAs and PegIFN-2b at our institution from November 2019 to January 2022.

Sulfur dioxide (SO) is widely utilized as a preservative in food transportation and storage, but excessive consumption poses health risks. This study presents a novel and efficient method for the real-time detection of SO using a sensor named TK, synthesized from triphenylamine and 2-cyanomethyl-1-methyl-quinolinium. The core mechanism involves the Michael addition reaction of the CC bond in TK with SO, which disrupts the intramolecular charge transfer process, resulting in a significant color change and a blue shift in fluorescence emission.
