The translocation t(1 ; 14)(p22 ; q32) has been reported only in cases of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas. Moreover, bcl-10 is a novel apoptotic signaling gene located at 1p22 and t(1 ; 14)(p22 ; q32) may directly expose bcl-10 to Ig somatic hypermutation. A recent report indicates a pathogenic role of bcl-10 mutation in the progression of MALT lymphomas.

[A case report of cholesteatoma of the ureter difficult to distinguish from malignant ureter tumor].

An 81-year-old woman consulted us with low abdominal pain. A computed tomography (CT) image showed left hydronephrosis and a mass without calcification at the lower portion of the left ureter. A retrograde urogram showed an irregular filling defect at the lower portion of the left ureter that suggested an obstruction by a malignant ureter tumor.

[A case of advanced gastric cancer with peritoneal dissemination effectively treated by combined chemotherapy of paclitaxel (TXL) and TS-1].

The patient was a 49-year-old woman. Chemotherapy was conducted combining paclitaxel (TXL) and TS-1 under the diagnosis of non-resectable advanced gastric cancer with peritoneal dissemination. The administration schedule was as follows: 60 mg/m2 of TXL on days 1, 8 and 15 intravenously and 120 mg/day of TS-1/on days 1 5, 8-12, and 15-19 orally.

[Assessment of antioxidant activity of natural compound by water- and lipid-soluble antioxidant factor].

We evaluated the antioxidant activity of natural compounds in water-soluble and lipid-soluble phases and found that ferulic acid, quercetin and caffeic acid showed stronger activity in the water-soluble phase. Various fractions isolated from Bidens pilosa showed this activity mainly in the water-soluble phase. Antioxidant activity in the lipid-soluble phase of propolis depended on the lipophilic extraction.

[A case of pulmonary thromboembolism due to idiopathic thrombosis of inferior vena cava, which was initially misdiagnosed as pneumonia].

We report a case of a 73-year-old man with pulmonary embolism due to idiopathic thrombosis of the inferior vena cava. He was referred to our hospital because of a fever and cough of 2 weeks' duration despite treatment with an oral antibiotic. Chest radiography on the first visit showed an infiltrate in the right middle lung field.

Background: Carbon monoxide (CO) has long been considered a toxic substance. Recent studies have revealed that CO may play an important role in intercellular signaling. We hypothesized that CO modulates the inflammatory mechanisms.

[Surgical removal of renal cell carcinoma after partial splenic embolization in a patient with liver cirrhosis: a case report].

Partial splenic embolization is used to treat patients with liver cirrhosis accompanied by hypersplenism for improving thrombocytopenia and leukopenia. We report a case in which partial splenic embolization was used before nephrectomy because both renal cell carcinoma and liver cirrhosis were present. A 75-year-old woman visited our hospital complaining of abdominal distension.

[Surgical removal of retroperitoneal liposarcoma after transarterial embolization: a case report].

A case of retroperitoneal liposarcoma that was removed after transarterial embolization is reported. A 62-year-old man was admitted with body weight loss and general fatigue. Computed tomography revealed an extrarenal tumor, 27 x 17 x 11 cm in size, in the left retroperitoneal space.

Syringomatous adenoma of the nipple: report of a case.

We report herein a rare case of syringomatous adenoma (SA) of the nipple. Only 22 cases of SA of the nipple have been documented in the world literature, and to the best of our knowledge this is the first case to be reported in Japan. The patient was a 68-year-old woman who presented with a painful mass in the right subareolar region of over 15 years' duration.

Role of MR imaging in acute injuries to the appendicular skeleton.

Clinical applications of MR imaging in the setting of acute extremity injuries are discussed in general and by anatomic regions. General indications include physeal injuries, occult fractures, stress fractures, musculotendinous injuries, and ligamentous injuries. Indications of MR imaging in the acute injury setting have been expanding.
