Nationwide increases in pneumonia cases in Japan were reported in 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016. In this study, we isolated 554 strains in 4 areas in Japan (Kanagawa, Okayama, Osaka, and Saitama) between 2006 and 2019, and performed genotyping analysis. More than 80% of the strains isolated in 2011 and 2012 harbored type 1 adhesin gene; however, strains harboring type 2 or its variant gene increased in 2015 and 2016 and dominated after 2017.

This report describes a case of anaphylactic shock caused by talc pleurodesis. A 69-year-old woman who had prolonged air leakage after lobectomy underwent talc pleurodesis.

Relationship between post-IVIG IgG levels and clinical outcomes in Kawasaki disease patients: new insight into the mechanism of action of IVIG.

Introduction/objectives: The dosing of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy for Kawasaki disease (KD) has been a matter of debate for decades, with recent studies implicating that larger doses lead to better outcomes. Despite this, few have investigated post-IVIG infusion immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels in relation to outcomes of KD such as response to IVIG and development of coronary artery abnormalities (CAAs). The present study investigated how varying levels of post-infusion IgG affected these outcomes.

Background: A large plexiform neurofibroma in patients with neurofibromatosis type I can be life threatening due to possible massive bleeding within the lesion. Although the literature includes many reports that describe the plexiform neurofibroma size and weight or strategies for their surgical treatment, few have discussed their possible physical or mental benefits, such as reducing cardiac stress. In addition, resection of these large tumors can result in impaired wound healing, partly due to massive blood loss during surgery.

Clinical impact of evaluation of frailty in endoscopic submucosal dissection for early gastric cancer in elderly patients.

Aims: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early gastric cancer (EGC) is performed safely and effectively in elderly patients; however, whether ESD for EGC in elderly patients with frailty is safe and improves prognosis remains unclear.

Methods: In total, 142 patients aged ≥80 years who underwent ESD for EGC between September 2008 and September 2014 were included. We compared outcomes between patients with frailty and those without frailty.
