Background: Oxaliplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy may be associated with debilitating peripheral sensory neuropathy (PSN) in patients with high-risk stage II colon cancer. This open-label, multicenter, randomized phase III trial was conducted as a prospective pooled analysis to investigate the non-inferiority of 3 versus 6 months of adjuvant oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy.

Patients And Methods: From 12 February 2014 to 31 January 2017, 525 Asian patients with high-risk stage II colon cancer were randomly assigned to 3- and 6-month treatment arms.

Background: The medical treatment for severe pallid breath-holding spells accompanied with severe bradycardia or transient cardiac arrest is controversial. Although various medications have been reported to be effective, patients treated with pacemaker insertion are not always evaluated for pharmacological therapy beforehand.

Case Report: A 9-month-old boy developed pallid breath-holding spells.

Nationwide increases in pneumonia cases in Japan were reported in 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016. In this study, we isolated 554 strains in 4 areas in Japan (Kanagawa, Okayama, Osaka, and Saitama) between 2006 and 2019, and performed genotyping analysis. More than 80% of the strains isolated in 2011 and 2012 harbored type 1 adhesin gene; however, strains harboring type 2 or its variant gene increased in 2015 and 2016 and dominated after 2017.

Background And Study Aims: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is widely used as a treatment modality for gastric mucosal neoplasia. While proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have been used for the control of artificial ulcers created by ESD (ESD-ulcers), complete healing of the ulcers is not always achieved in all the cases. The purpose of this study was to identify the clinical factors that are predictive of refractory ESD-ulcers.

Introduction/objectives: The dosing of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy for Kawasaki disease (KD) has been a matter of debate for decades, with recent studies implicating that larger doses lead to better outcomes. Despite this, few have investigated post-IVIG infusion immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels in relation to outcomes of KD such as response to IVIG and development of coronary artery abnormalities (CAAs). The present study investigated how varying levels of post-infusion IgG affected these outcomes.

Background: A large plexiform neurofibroma in patients with neurofibromatosis type I can be life threatening due to possible massive bleeding within the lesion. Although the literature includes many reports that describe the plexiform neurofibroma size and weight or strategies for their surgical treatment, few have discussed their possible physical or mental benefits, such as reducing cardiac stress. In addition, resection of these large tumors can result in impaired wound healing, partly due to massive blood loss during surgery.

  • If there's a suspicion of hereditary tumors in a family, doctors should always factor this into diagnosis and treatment.
  • This consideration applies even if genetic testing hasn't been done yet.
  • Recognizing the possibility of hereditary tumors is crucial for effective healthcare management.

Aims: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early gastric cancer (EGC) is performed safely and effectively in elderly patients; however, whether ESD for EGC in elderly patients with frailty is safe and improves prognosis remains unclear.

Methods: In total, 142 patients aged ≥80 years who underwent ESD for EGC between September 2008 and September 2014 were included. We compared outcomes between patients with frailty and those without frailty.

The long-term orthostatic and/or exercise hemodynamic effects in children years after Kawasaki disease (KD) were studied using clinical data from the treadmill exercise test (TMET). Heart rate (HR) and blood pressures (BPs) recorded in TMET were compared between two age, gender, and body scale-matched groups of patients with and without a history of KD. The KD group included 60 patients (9.

Article Synopsis
  • * A systematic review and the modified Delphi method were used to create 29 QIs, and we found that measuring adherence to 6 of these QIs was feasible based on data from over 396,000 stroke patients.
  • * The study revealed significant variation in adherence rates among hospitals, indicating that the DPC database can efficiently collect data for evaluating stroke care quality at a lower cost.

The short-term efficacy and safety of insulin degludec U100 (IDeg) in patients with type 2 diabetes have not been reported widely. We compared insulin IDeg and insulin glargine U100 (IGla) for glycemic control and glucose variability in hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes. In an open-label, multicenter, randomized controlled trial, 74 patients were randomly assigned to either the IDeg (36 patients) or IGla (38 patients) group and were administered with basal-bolus therapy during hospitalization.

Background: We previously described the technique for single-port thoracoscopic lung wedge resection using the Endo GIA Radial Reload surgical stapler. The GIA Radial Reload has a curved cut line that is perpendicular to the direction of instrument insertion, facilitating the approach to the lung tissue behind the lesion. Herein, we report the outcomes of 15 cases using this procedure.
