Article Synopsis
  • Bufavirus (BuV) and its canine counterpart (CBuV) were investigated through samples from dogs with diarrhea in China, resulting in 14 positive detections among 622 anal swabs taken from 2018 to 2022.
  • The study involved sequencing the genomes of these strains and revealed potential recombination events with strains from Hungary and Italy, highlighting a genetic link.
  • It also found that while the CBuVs are conserved in a certain protein, there are significant mutations in another protein that might affect vaccine development and understanding of the virus's evolution.

M2 Macrophage-Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles Ameliorate Pyroptosis and Intervertebral Disc Degeneration.

Biomater Res

July 2024

Department of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Tianjin Hospital, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300211, China.

Intervertebral discs (IVDs) have a limited self-regenerative capacity and current strategies for IVD regeneration are unsatisfactory. Recent studies showed that small extracellular vesicles derived from M2 macrophage cells (M2-sEVs) inhibited inflammation by delivery of various bioactive molecules to recipient cells, which indicated that M2-sEVs may offer a therapeutic strategy for the repair of IVDs. Herein, we investigated the roles and mechanisms of M2-sEVs on IVD regeneration.

State Key Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering, Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, PR China; School of Chemical Engineering, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100049, PR China. Electronic address:

The design and construction of high strength hydrogels is a widely discussed topic in hydrogel research. In this study, we combined three toughening strategies, including dual network, oriented structure construction and nanophase doping, to develop an alginate/polyacrylamide (PAM)/modified titanium dioxide fiber (TiO NF@PAM) dual network composite hydrogel prepared via syringe. The effects of different preparation methods, AM/Alginate ratios, inorganic doping phases and TiO NF@PAM/AM ratios on the mechanical properties of composite hydrogels were investigated.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) has become the popular critical post-operative consequences, especially cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, leading to an increased risk of mortality. However, no therapeutic effect about POCD. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria living in the gut and help to reduce the risk of POCD.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) patients with stage pT4b are a complex group as they show differences in tumor-infiltrated organs. Patients with the same stage often exhibit differences in prognosis after multivisceral resection (MVR). Thus far, some important prognostic factors have not been thoroughly investigated.

Neuroinflammation associated with microglial activation plays a role in the development of Parkinson's disease (PD). The upregulation of interferon regulatory factor 8 (IRF8) in microglia following peripheral nerve injury has been observed to induce microglial activation. This suggests the potential therapeutic significance of IRF8 in PD.

Background: The RNA-binding motif single-stranded interacting protein 3 (RBMS3) is a constituent of the RNA-binding motif (RBM) protein family, which assumes a pivotal role in governing cellular biogenesis processes such as the cell cycle and apoptosis. Despite an abundance of studies elucidating RBMS3's divergent roles in the genesis and advancement of various tumors, its involvement in colon cancer remains enigmatic.

Methods: The present investigation employed data analysis from TCGA and GTEx to unveil that RBMS3 expression demonstrated a diminished presence in colon cancer tissues when juxtaposed with normal colon tissues.

Orosomucoid 2 upregulation mediates liver injury-induced colorectal cancer liver metastasis by promoting EMT and cell migration.

Cancer Sci

January 2025

Center of Biotherapy, Beijing Hospital, National Center of Gerontology, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

The relationship between drug-induced liver injury and liver metastasis of colorectal cancer and the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. In this study, we used carbon tetrachloride to construct a classic mouse liver injury model and injected CT26 colorectal cancer cells into the mouse spleen to simulate the natural route of colorectal cancer liver metastasis. Liver injury significantly increased the number of colorectal cancer liver metastases.

JAMA Neurol

March 2024

National Center for Neurological Disorders, Huashan Rare Disease Centre, Department of Neurology, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder that affects the neuromuscular junction, and new treatments like efgartigimod and rozanolixizumab have shown promise in reducing symptoms by lowering IgG levels.
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effect and safety of a new monoclonal antibody called batoclimab in patients with generalized MG through a randomized clinical trial involving 132 adults across 27 centers in China.
  • Results indicated that batoclimab significantly improved patient outcomes, with 58.2% of treated patients achieving sustained improvement in daily activities compared to 31.3% in the placebo group, making the drug a potentially effective treatment option for MG.

LTBP1 is closely related to TGF-β1 function as an essential component, which was unclear in gastric cancer (GC). Harbin Medical University (HMU)-GC cohort and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset were combined to form a training cohort to calculate the connection between LTBP1 mRNA expression, prognosis and clinicopathological features. The training cohort was also used to verify the biological function of LTBP1 and its relationship with immune microenvironment and chemosensitivity.

College of Life Sciences, Key Laboratory of Bioactive Materials (Ministry of Education), State Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemical Biology, Nankai University, Tianjin, 300071, China.

Injectable biomaterials have garnered increasing attention for their potential and beneficial applications in minimally invasive surgical procedures and tissue regeneration. Extracellular matrix (ECM) hydrogels and porous synthetic polymer microspheres can be prepared for injectable administration to achieve in situ tissue regeneration. However, the rapid degradation of ECM hydrogels and the poor injectability and biological inertness of most polymeric microspheres limit their pro-regenerative capabilities.

Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a serious complication of sepsis, which is characterized by cognitive dysfunction, a poor prognosis, and high incidences of morbidity and mortality. Substantial levels of systemic inflammatory factors induce neuroinflammatory responses during sepsis, ultimately disrupting the central nervous system's (CNS) homeostasis. This disruption results in brain dysfunction through various underlying mechanisms, contributing further to SAE's development.

SLAMF3 promotes Th17 differentiation and is reversed by iguratimod through JAK1/STAT3 pathway in primary Sjögren's syndrome.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2024

Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, The First Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang 110001, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Objective: The signaling lymphocytic activation molecule family of receptors (SLAMF) is involved in the activation of T cells and plays important roles in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. The purpose of this study is to observe the expression of SLAMF3 on CD4 + T cells and its effect on the differentiation of T helper 17 (Th17) in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). Furthermore, we found iguratimod (IGU) could effectively reverse the aberrant Th17 differentiation through JAK1/STAT3 signaling.
