Background And Purpose: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that is challenging to treat, and novel drugs are needed for this condition. Previously, a chronic vicarious social defeat stress (cVSDS) mouse model exhibits IBS-like symptoms. Also agonists of the opioid δ-receptor exert anti-stress effects in rodents with minimal adverse effects.

Tau pathology is a hallmark of several neurodegenerative diseases, including frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease. However, the sequence of events and the form of tau that confers toxicity are still unclear, due in large part to the lack of physiological models of tauopathy initiation and progression in which to test hypotheses. We have developed a series of targeted mice expressing frontotemporal-dementia-causing mutations in the humanized MAPT gene to investigate the earliest stages of tauopathy.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is characterized by a decline in cognitive functions, including memory, attention, and executive abilities, following surgery, with no effective therapeutic drugs currently available. Arketamine, the (R)-enantiomer of ketamine, has shown promise in mitigating cognitive deficits in animal models. In this study, we investigated whether arketamine could ameliorate cognitive deficits in a mouse model of POCD, with a focus on the role of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 in its effects.

This study examined the relationship between Long-Term Care Insurance care need levels and Barthel Index scores in Japanese nursing home residents. Findings show a strong correlation (r = -0.68), comparable to community-dwelling individuals, yet certain care need levels exhibited large score variability.

Background: The implementation of cancer precision medicine in Japan is deeply intertwined with insurance reimbursement policies and requires case-by-case reviews by Molecular Tumor Boards (MTBs), which impose considerable operational burdens on healthcare facilities. The extensive preparation and review times required by MTBs hinder their ability to efficiently assess comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) test results. Despite attempts to optimize MTB operations, significant challenges remain.

Introduction: Increased muscle stiffness in the upper trapezius has been suggested to be associated with cervical myofascial pain and myofascial trigger points (MTrP). Recently, efforts have been made to objectively detect MTrP using ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE). However, there is no consensus on the relationship between muscle stiffness assessed by SWE and MTrP.

Objective: We aimed to characterize integrative and conjugative elements (ICEs) in antimicrobial resistant Streptococcs uberis isolates from bovine milk in Chiba, Japan, based on whole-genome sequence (WGS) data.
Results: Of the 101 isolates, we found the 36 isolates harboring erm(B)-tet(O), showing resistance to macrolides-lincosamides-tetracyclines. The 22 isolates were randomly selected and subject to WGS determination.

Chronic pain is commonly recognized as a distressing symptom or a standalone disease, with over half of those affected experiencing cognitive impairment, which significantly impacts their quality of life. Despite a recent surge in literature on cognitive impairment associated with chronic pain, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis in this field has yet to be conducted. In this study, we performed a bibliometric analysis on this topic.

A low dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration in summer has been observed in river-estuary systems worldwide. Many studies have caused our stereotype that biochemical oxygen depletion was higher in summer than in winter; however, there was no direct evidence particularly in the tidal river with complex hydrological and biochemical processes. This study employed natural-abundance and labeled isotopes to quantify seasonal apportionment of biochemical oxygen depletion.

The traditional use of Cordyceps militaris, an entomopathogenic fungus, in East Asian medicine has been well documented. Our previous study revealed that the fruiting body powder of C. militaris, referred to as Ryukyu-kaso, contains 1,3-β-glucan and stimulates bone marrow-derived dendritic cells via a dectin-1-dependent pathway.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic ability of 5-(5-(2-(2-(2-F-fluoroethoxy) ethoxy) ethoxy) benzofuran-2-yl)-N-methylpyridin-2-amine (F-FPYBF-2) dynamic PET for patients with cardiac amyloidosis (CA).
Methods: The subjects were patients diagnosed with proven amyloidosis (n = 16) including transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) (n = 7) and light chain amyloidosis (AL amyloidosis) (n = 9), of which 4 and 5 with (AL-CA) and without (AL-nCA) cardiac involvement, and 4 control subjects suffering from some symptoms of cardiac failure without amyloidosis (CTL). Thirty minutes dynamic F-FPYBF-2 PET/CT was performed to evaluate the time activity curve and the retention index (mRI) as the ratio of the myocardial SUV at 15 to 5 min.

Background: The rapid decline in ovarian function associated with menopause promotes osteoclast differentiation and increases bone resorption, disrupting of bone homeostasis and increasing the risk of osteoporosis. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a polysaccharide ubiquitously present in the connective tissues. Recent reports indicate that high-molecular-weight HA (HMW-HA) promotes osteoblast proliferation, enhances alkaline phosphatase activity and mineral deposition, and promotes the expression of bone differentiation markers, such as Runx2 and osteocalcin.

3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA; Ecstasy) is a widely abused recreational drug that has also gained interest for potential clinical applications in mental health. With the growing recognition of gut microbiota's role in mental health, this study examined whether repeated oral MDMA administration could affect gut microbiota in the small intestine, cecum, and colon of male rats. Repeated oral MDMA administration (10 mg/kg/day for 14 days) caused significant changes in the gut microbiota across these regions, with distinct effects observed in each.

Although multiple studies suggest that ionizing radiation can induce bystander effects (radiation-induced bystander effect, RIBE) in cultured cell lines, it is still unclear whether RIBE is evolutionarily conserved in invertebrates. In this study, we investigated the frequency of cell death of unirradiated starfish (Patiria pectinifera) oocytes co-cultured with oocytes irradiated with X rays (0, 2 and 4 Gy). We observed increased frequencies of cell death determined by morphological abnormality and TUNEL-positive cells in unirradiated oocytes co-cultured with oocytes irradiated with 2 Gy or 4 Gy oocytes.
