-internal tandem duplication (-ITD) is a key predictive factor for the prognosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We compared the detection sensitivity of fragment analysis with that of PCR-electrophoresis using MV4-11 (-ITD) and NKM-1 (-wild type) cell lines. DNA of these cells was mixed at different ratios and subjected to PCR-electrophoresis or fragment analysis.

The optimal pre-transplant conditioning for aplastic anemia (AA) remains unclear. We performed a prospective study on allogeneic transplantation from a related or unrelated donor for adult patients with AA. We assessed whether reduced-dose cyclophosphamide (CY) could decrease toxicity while maintaining engraftment, and low-dose thymoglobulin could safely prevent graft-vs-host disease (GVHD).

Introduction: Limb muscle mass measurement using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of sarcopenia. Moreover, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is also recognized as a beneficial tool considering its high correlation with DXA. However, it remains to be elucidated whether DXA and BIA can accurately measure trunk lean mass.

Although cytogenetic abnormalities at diagnosis are recognized as an important prognostic factor in patients with Philadelphia chromosome (Ph)-negative acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the prognostic impact has not been evaluated in allogeneic stem cell transplant (allo-SCT) recipients. Thus, we assessed 373 Ph-negative ALL patients who underwent allo-SCT. The high-risk (HR) group included those with t(4;11), t(8;14), low hypodiploidy, and complex karyotype, and the standard risk (SR) group included all other karyotypes.

A multicenter retrospective study was performed to explore a prognostic scoring index in order to identify a population who are least likely to benefit from allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The cohort included 519 patients with AML, who received HCT between 2005 and 2015 at a status of relapse or primary induction failure. Multivariate analysis demonstrated five independent predictors for OS, including C-reactive protein ≥ 1 mg/dL, peripheral blood blast fraction ≥ 20%, poor-risk karyotype, performance status ≥ 2, and bone marrow unrelated donor as a stem cell source.

Although it has been reported that prasugrel achieves stronger antiplatelet effect and fewer cardiovascular events compared to clopidogrel in Japanese patients, there are limited data comparing the safety between the 2 dose regimens. Data from 1031 consecutive patients with coronary artery disease undergoing PCI at 5 institutions from May 2014 to April 2016, who received aspirin plus either clopidogrel (619 patients) or prasugrel (412 patients), were retrospectively analyzed. The choice of clopidogrel or prasugrel was left to the operator's discretion.

In the opinion of the European LeukemiaNet (ELN), nucleophosmin member 1 gene mutation ( mut)-positive acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with an fms-like kinase 3-internal tandem duplication (-ITD) allele ratio (AR) <0.5 (low AR) has a favorable prognosis, and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HSCT) in the first complete remission (CR1) period is not actively recommended. We studied 147 patients with -ITD gene mutation-positive AML, dividing them into those with low AR and those with AR of ≥0.

Transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a predictor for cerebral infarction (CI), and early diagnosis of TIA is extremely important for the prevention of CI. We set out to identify novel antibody biomarkers for TIA and CI, and detected matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP1), chromobox homolog 1 (CBX1), and chromobox homolog 5 (CBX5) as candidate antigens using serological identification of antigens by recombinant cDNA expression cloning (SEREX) and Western blotting to confirm the presence of serum antibodies against the antigens. Amplified luminescent proximity homogeneous assay-linked immunosorbent assay (AlphaLISA) revealed that serum antibody levels were significantly higher in patients with TIA or acute-phase CI (aCI) compared with healthy donors ( < 0.
