Introduction: The thermal changes during light curing of resin-based composites (RBCs) are recognized, but there is a lack of information about temperature changes in pulp tissue under different curing protocols, especially during bonding of orthodontic brackets onto the tooth surface. In the present study, pulpal temperature (PT) variation induced by the use of four different light cure intensities and different durations of cure among different classes of teeth was measured.

Materials And Methods: A total of 80 different classes of human extracted teeth (maxillary and mandibular central incisor, lateral incisor, canine, premolar, and molar) were irradiated at the same distances with four visible light curing intensities.

Background: Residual ridge resorption presents obstacles in prosthodontic treatment, affecting denture stability and the success of dental implants. Genetic elements, specifically the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) 1772C>T variant within the hypoxia-inducible factor 1 subunit alpha (HIF-1α) gene, are hypothesized to contribute to residual ridge resorption progression. Nevertheless, its impact remains insufficiently investigated, especially within the context of South Indian populations.

Matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors in restorative dentistry.

J Conserv Dent Endod

June 2024

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Chettinad Dental College and Research Institute, Kelambakkam, Tamil Nadu, India.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have been identified as agents that disintegrate the collagen structures of dental hybrid layers, resulting in reduced restorative bond strength. Multiple MMP inhibitors (MMPIs) are known to counteract this degenerative mechanism, thereby preserving bond strength and promoting the longevity of resin-based restorations. Additionally, literature suggests that certain MMPI materials possess antimicrobial/anticariogenic properties, potentially reducing the risk of secondary caries development.

The current meta-analysis aims to explore the potential correlation between natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 (NRAMP1) (3'-Untranslated region [3'-UTR]) and nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-2 (NOD2 [rs8057341]) gene polymorphisms and their association with leprosy susceptibility in both Asian and Caucasian populations. Datas were retrieved from case control studies with NOD 2 and NRAMP 1 gene polymorphism associated with leprosy disease. Leprosy emerges as a particularly distinctive ailment among women on a global scale.

The utilization of herbal formulations for the management of reproductive tract disorders has been a longstanding practice in traditional medicine. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of a herbal extract, Shalmali (Bombax ceiba), in addressing uterine bleeding, a common concern in gynecological health. Through gene expression analysis, this study examined the impact of Shalmali extract on key genes associated with uterine bleeding, namely ESR1, CD56, and SDF-1, in the human endometrial stromal cell line (T HESC).

The anatomical characteristics and the cortico-cancellous nature of bone disrupted by the presence of teeth make the mandible more vulnerable to fractures during traumatic injuries of the face. Fractures of the angle region constitute about 30% of mandibular fractures due to the change in dentate bone to the lateral flare of ramus, change in grain pattern of the bone, and presence of third molars all weakening the region making it fragile and thus fracture. Several studies corroborated the effectiveness of Champy's technique as to have the lowest complication rate when compared to the other techniques.

Purpose: The aim of the in vitro study was to compare the internal merge and marginal perfection of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) crowns under a stereomicroscope.

Methods: All-ceramic preparation is done on the maxillary first premolar which is mounted on the wax block which was scanned using 3Shape scanner and duplicated into 30 acrylic CAD/CAM dies ( = 15) for the placement of PEEK and PEKK crowns. The YENADENT milling system was used to fabricate 15 samples from Group A PEEK crowns and to fabricate 15 samples from Group B PEKK crowns.

J Pharm Bioallied Sci

April 2024

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Sri Venkateshwaraa Group of Institutions, Sri Venkateshwaraa Dental College and Hospital, Ariyur, Puducherry, India.

Pulpal and periapical pathosis are biofilm-induced infections. Understanding the complex nature of endodontic biofilm would help to create a new disinfection strategy to eliminate the microorganism from the root canal system. The intricate canal structure creates challenges for proper disinfection, necessitating the need to understand the biofilm structure, composition, and mechanism within the biofilm community.
