The effect of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and snoring severity to intima-media thickening of carotid artery.

Introduction: Intima-media thickening (IMT), which is the early finding of carotid artery atherosclerosis, has been shown to be associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). In our study, we aimed to assess prospectively the effect of severity of OSAS and snoring on carotid artery IMT.

Methods: A total of 102 patients who were admitted to sleep laboratory between May 2011 and May 2012 were included in the study.

Mental health screening and increased risk for anxiety and depression among treatment-seeking smokers.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the risk for mental health disorders between smokers and non-smokers and to assess the risk for depression and anxiety according to addiction severity.

The relationship between serum YKL-40 levels and severity of asthma.

Fibrosing mediastinitis mimicking bronchogenic carcinoma.

Fibrosing mediastinitis is a rare but benign disorder characterized by an excessive fibrotic reaction in the mediastinum which can result in compromise of airways, great vessels, and other mediastinal structures. In this paper we presented a patient with fibrosing mediastinitis mimicking bronchogenic carcinoma. The patient was a 32-year-old diabetic male admitting with cough and hemoptysis.

Acanthosis nigricans in a patient with lung cancer: a case report.

Some skin lesions may accompany malignancies. Acanthosis nigricans, one such lesion, is a paraneoplastic dermatosis characterized by hyperpigmented and velvety verrucose plaques observed as symetric eruptions. With this report, we aim to present a rare case of concomitant lung cancer and acanthosis nigricans.

Waxing and waning pulmonary nodules and myelodysplastic syndrome.

A 53-year-old diabetic woman with the diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome was admitted to our hospital with symptoms of anorexia, malaise, fatigue, night sweats, and weight loss.
