Background: To evaluate the effect of berberine (BBR) intervention on left ventricular hypertrophy and systolic function in rats by ultrasound layered strain imaging and cardiac hypertrophy model.
Methods: Eighty healthy male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into four groups: group A (normal saline control group), group B [isoproterenol (ISO) induced model group], group C (BBR hydrochloride 5 mg/kg + ISO group) and group D (BBR hydrochloride 10 mg/kg + ISO group). Echocardiography was performed on days 1, 7 and 14, respectively.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the relationship between the time from percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA) until subsequent fracture and the risk of new symptomatic fractures (NSFs) in untreated vertebrae at different distances from "augmented vertebrae".
Methods: Patients who underwent PVA for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures at the West China Hospital of Sichuan University from May 2014 to April 2019 were retrospectively recruited. Vertebrae not treated during PVA were stratified based on their distance from the nearest augmented vertebra and the time elapsed since PVA.

Background: Liver interventional surgery is a relatively safe and minimally invasive surgery. However, for patients who have undergone Whipple surgery, the probability of developing a liver abscess after liver interventional surgery is very high. Fungal liver abscess has a high mortality rate, especially when complicated with malignant tumors, diabetes, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and other complications.

Understanding the underlying hydrodynamics of impinging blood droplets and finding out the physical parameters determining the bloodstain characteristics are of great importance in blood related forensic investigations. In this work, the impact of non-Newtonian blood droplets on solid surfaces ranging from lyophilic to superlyophobic was systematically investigated and compared to that of Newtonian droplets with a similar dynamic shear viscosity. We show that impinging blood droplets behave as low-viscosity Newtonian droplets in the short-time spreading, which is dominated by capillary and inertial forces, but their non-Newtonian viscoelasticity would notably affect the droplet retraction and post-impact oscillation occurring in large timescales.

Background: Acute renal injury (AKI) is a common complication of lung transplantation. However, there has been no related research on whether the relationship between fluid balance and input and output influences the occurrence of early AKI. This study aimed to explore the relationship between early fluid balance and input and output on the incidence of early AKI after lung transplantation.

The polysaccharides (FP) extracted from the lateral roots of Aconitum carmichaelii Debx. (Fuzi) are natural compounds, which have effective therapy for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methotrexate (MTX) is the first-line drug for RA, but its application is greatly limited to the toxicity in liver and kidney and drug resistance.

Lung metastatic breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death in women and difficult to treat due to non-specific drug delivery. Herein a sequential targeting dual-responsive magnetic nanoparticle was fabricated, where FeO nanoparticle was used as magnetic core, then sequentially coated with tetraethyl orthosilicate, bis[3-(triethoxy-silyl)propyl] tetrasulfide, and 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylmethacrylate to afford -C = C- on the surface for further polymerisation with acrylic acid, acryloyl-6-ethylenediamine-6-deoxy-β-cyclodextrin using N, N-bisacryloylcy- stamine as cross-linker, obtaining pH/redox dual-responsive magnetic nanoparticle (MNPs-CD) to delivery doxorubicin (DOX) for suppressing lung metastatic breast cancer. Our results suggested DOX-loaded nanoparticle could target the lung metastases site by sequential targeting, in which they first be delivered to the lung and even the metastatic nodules through size-driven, electrical interaction, and magnetic field-guided mechanisms, then be effectively internalised into the cancer cells followed by intelligently triggering DOX release.

Lung cancer is the most common in incidence and mortality worldwide. With the development of next generation sequencing (NGS) detection technology, more and more patients with rare anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) fusion mutations were detected. A case of advanced lung adenocarcinoma with rare COX7A2L-ALK (C2:A20) fusion detected by NGS was reported in Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and all cases with rare ALK fusion mutations were searched from medical datebase from January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2021, to investigate the treatment of rare ALK fusion mutations with ALK inhibitors.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus-induced oxidative stress (OS) causes liver injury. Intraoperative pumping of dexmedetomidine (DEX) effectively reduced the postoperative OS response in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and had a certain protective effect on liver function. However, the mechanisms of the protective effect on the liver remained unclear.

Objective: To study the expression of tyrosine kinase receptor 2 (Tie2) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and its effect on cell proliferation and migration and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process.
Methods: Immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests were conducted to examine the expression of Tie2 in OSCC tissues and normal oral mucosa tissues. Western blot was performed to examine the expression of Tie2 in dysplastic oral keratinocyte (DOK) cell line and OSCC cell lines, and the cell line with high Tie2 expression was selected as the experimental cell line.

Over the past few decades, increasing prevalence of obesity caused an enormous medical, social, and economic burden. As the sixth most important risk factor contributing to the overall burden of disease worldwide, obesity not only directly harms the human body, but also leads to many chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and mental illness. Weight loss is still one of the most effective strategies against obesity and related disorders.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have emerged as a revolutionary therapy in advanced squamous non-small cell lung cancer (sqNSCLC) and ushered a new era of immunotherapy. Despite of remarkable outcomes, a wide spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) was reported, among which cutaneous reactions were the most common. Cutaneous irAEs were mainly managed by glucocorticoids, whereas prolonged use of glucocorticoids may cuase kinds of side effects, especially in elderly paitients, and diminish the anti-tumor efficacy of ICIs, thus finding a safe and effective alternative approach to managing cutaneous irAEs is imperative.

Background: Clinically, there were few reports on single-hole thoracoscopic segmental resection in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and no report on the comparison of single-hole and three-hole thoracoscopic segmental resection. Hence, the purpose of the study was to explore the perioperative role of single-port thoracoscopic segmentectomy and three-port thoracoscopic segmentectomy for early-stage NSCLC.
Methods: The clinical data of 80 patients with early-stage NSCLC who were treated in our hospital from January 2021 to June 2022 were selected as the retrospective research subjects and divided into a comparison/research group with 40 cases in each group according to different surgical methods.

Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte disorder in clinical practice, which may lead to life-threatening complications. Several lines of evidence suggest that hyponatremia is associated not only with significant increases in length of stay, cost, and financial burden, but also with increased morbidity and mortality. Hyponatremia is also considered to be a negative prognostic factor in patients with heart failure and cancer.

Objective: It has long been debated whether rhythm control vs. rate control strategies have differing effects on mortality and morbidity for atrial fibrillation (AF). Recently, several randomized controlled studies (RCTs) and observational trials described that an early rhythm management method was linked to a lower likelihood of negative clinical outcomes in individuals with AF.
