Article Synopsis
  • The BAD-study was a comprehensive analysis of branch atheromatous disease (BAD)-related strokes in 476 patients across 20 hospitals in China, focusing on demographic, clinical, and therapeutic aspects.
  • The study found that the majority of participants were middle-aged and male, with a higher occurrence of strokes linked to the lenticulostriate artery; 86.5% of patients had good outcomes by 90 days, despite 14.7% experiencing early neurological deterioration.
  • Key predictors of poor outcomes included higher stroke severity at admission and early deterioration, while extracranial artery stenosis was associated with better outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how an ultrasound scoring system can help choose surgical methods for cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy (CSEP) by analyzing 117 patient cases.
  • It shows that the thickness of the residual tissue at the scar site and the blood supply to the gestational sac differ between low-risk and high-risk groups.
  • The findings indicate a good agreement (kappa coefficient of 0.644) between the predicted and actual treatment methods, suggesting that the ultrasound scoring can help tailor individual treatment plans for patients with CSEP, especially those in the low-risk category.

Objective: To examine the correlation between Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP) levels and the progression of non-target lesion vascular disease following the deployment of Drug-eluting Stents (DES).

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients who had undergone successful treatment for CAD with DES and subsequently underwent a coronary angiography follow-up at the Cardiology Department of Tianjin Third Central Hospital from January 2017 to July 2022. The annual change in Gensini Score (GS) was calculated according to two angiographic evaluations in order to assess the progression of non-target lesion vascular disease; a change greater than 1 indicated progression, while a change of 1 or less indicated stability.

This study explored 1-year follow-up of Parmaco-invasive strategy with half-dose recombinant human prourokinase (PHDP) in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The follow-up endpoints were major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) occurring within 30 days and 1 year, as well as postoperative bleeding events. The study ultimately included 150 subjects, with 75 in the primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) group and 75 in the PHDP group.

Background: Cell subsets differentially modulate host immune responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection. However, the nature and functions of these subsets against osteoarticular tuberculosis (OTB) are unclear. Here, we aimed to understand the phenotypes and functions of immune cell subsets in patients with OTB using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq).

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive malignancy with a high propensity for brain metastases (BM). Limited-stage SCLC (LS-SCLC) can be effectively treated with chemoradiotherapy and prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) to enhance patient outcomes. The aim of the present study was to assess the risk factors and prognostic significance of brain metastases (BM) in patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC) who attained complete remission (CR) or partial remission (PR) following combined chemoradiotherapy and subsequent prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI).

Background: Transurethral holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) has a good therapeutic effect on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical efficacy of HoLEP in the treatment of high-risk elderly patients with BPH and assess its impact on the inflammatory response, vascular endothelial function and quality of life (QoL).

Methods: Patients at high risk of BPH who were hospitalised in Chengde Central Hospital from February 2021 to December 2022 were retrospectively selected as the study objects, and a total of 100 cases were included.

The immune escape of tumor cells and functional status of tumor-infiltrating T cells may serve pivotal roles in the tumor immune microenvironment and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The present study enrolled 91 patients with HCC and examined programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in tumor cells and CD39 expression in tumor-infiltrating CD8 T cells in patient samples using multiplex immunofluorescence assays. The impact of PD-L1 and CD39 expression levels on the prognosis of patients with HCC was investigated utilizing Kaplan-Meier analyses.

Since there is insufficient evidence to determine the best treatment of transurethral laser lithotripsy (TLL) in ureteral stones, this study compared the effectiveness and safety of TLL using high-power (HP) (100 W) and low-power (LP) (20 W) laser settings. All patients with maximally sized ureteral stones who were planned for transurethral holmium laser lithotripsy were enrolled in this open study. One of the two laser setting groups-LP or HP-was allocated to each alternate patient.

Article Synopsis
  • Bladder cancer is increasing in prevalence and mortality rates, but the specific role of RAC3 in cisplatin-resistant bladder cancer cells is not fully understood.
  • Using bioinformatics and lab techniques, researchers examined RAC3 expression in bladder cancer tissues, its correlation with cancer characteristics, and its impact on the immune environment and cell signaling pathways.
  • Results showed higher levels of RAC3 in bladder cancer tissues linked to poor outcomes, with RAC3 overexpression promoting growth and resistance in cisplatin-resistant cells, while silencing it slowed their growth.
