Aerobic exercise (AE) has been shown to offer significant benefits for Alzheimer's disease (AD), potentially influencing the gut microbiota. However, the impact of changes in intestinal flora in early Alzheimer's disease induced by aerobic exercise on metabolic pathways and metabolites is not well understood. In this study, 3-month-old APP/PS1 and C57BL/6 mice were divided into two groups each: a control group (ADC for APP/PS1 and WTC for C57BL/6) and an aerobic exercise group (ADE for APP/PS1 and WTE for C57BL/6).

Introduction: Extensive efforts have been made to explore members of the IL-10 family as potential therapeutic strategies for various diseases; however, their biological role in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) remains underexplored.

Methods: Gene expression datasets GSE136825, GSE179265, and GSE196169 were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) for analysis. Candidate genes were identified by intersecting differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the CRSwNP and control groups (DEGsall) with those between the high- and low-score groups within the CRSwNP cohort (DEGsNP).

Cadmium accumulation potential and detoxication mechanism of Koenigia tortuosa: A novel extremely hardy plant from high altitude lead-zinc mine in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Chemosphere

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection, College of Ecology and Environment, Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu, 610059, PR China.

Hardy plants play a crucial role in restoring high-altitude tailings ponds, but the accumulation of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and detoxification mechanisms in alpine plants are understudied. This study first investigated the cadmium (Cd) accumulation capacity and detoxification mechanisms by comparative transcriptomics with different Cd stress (0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg L Cd) of Koenigia tortuosa from a lead-zinc mine (4950 m above sea level) in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The findings revealed that, despite elevated Cd concentrations suppressed the growth of Koenigia tortuosa, the plant retained a notable ability to accumulate Cd.

Association between composite dietary antioxidant index and hyperlipidemia in adults based on the NHANES.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Regimen and Health, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Hyperlipidemia, a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, can potentially be alleviated by dietary antioxidants. This study explored the relationship between hyperlipidemia and the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI), which measures antioxidant intake from carotenoids, selenium, zinc, and vitamins A, C, and E. Analyzing data from 27,493 participants aged 20 and older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2001 and 2018, we used weighted regression models to assess this association while adjusting for multiple covariates.

Src homology-2-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase 2 (SHP2) plays a dual role in cancer initiation and progression. Identifying signals that modulate the function of SHP2 can improve current therapeutic approaches for IFN-α/β in HCC. We showed that cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA) suppresses IFN-α/β-induced JAK/STAT signaling by increasing the phosphatase activity of SHP2, promoting the dissociation of SHP2 from the receptor for activated C-kinase 1 (RACK1) and binding to STAT1.

P2YR-IGFBP2 signaling: new contributor to astrocyte-neuron communication.

Purinergic Signal

January 2025

International Joint Research Centre On Purinergic Signalling, School of Acupuncture and Tuina, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu, 610075, China.

In a recent article published in Nature Communications (Shigetomi et al Nat Commun 15(1):6525, 2024), Shigetomi et al. identified that upregulated astrocytic purinergic P2Y receptors (P2YR), acting via the downstream molecule, insulin-like growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2), play a crucial role in neuronal hyperexcitability. In epilepsy and stroke models, P2YR-IGFBP2 signaling was found to mediate astrocyte-driven neuronal hyperexcitability and so is a new contributor to astrocyte-neuron communication.

The comprehensive benefit evaluation of LID based on multi-criteria decision-making methods faces technical issues such as the uncertainties and vagueness in hybrid information sources, which can affect the overall evaluation results and ranking of alternatives. This study introduces a multi-indicator fuzzy comprehensive benefit evaluation approach for the selection of LID measures, aiming to provide a robust and holistic framework for evaluating their benefits at the community level. The proposed methodology integrates quantitative environmental and economic indicators with qualitative social benefit indicators, combining the use of the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) and ArcGIS for scenario-based analysis, and the use of hesitant fuzzy language sets and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) for decision-making.

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Coarse Cereal Processing, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Sichuan Engineering & Technology Research Center of Coarse Cereal Industrialization, School of Food and Biological Engineering, Chengdu University, Chengdu 610106, Sichuan, PR China; School of Basic Medicine, Chengdu University, Chengdu 610106, PR China. Electronic address:

In recent years, quinoa protein (QP) has attracted attention for its balanced amino acids composition, but its limited techno-functional properties continue to pose challenges for its utilization. Non-enzymatic Maillard glycation is considered as a promising strategy to expand the utilization of plant proteins in food processing due to its cost-effectiveness, spontaneous nature, and the lack of need for additives to initiate the reaction. Furthermore, the use of hyaluronic acid (HA) as an ingredient in food products is becoming increasingly accepted and popular.

Decipher syntrophies and adaptive response towards enhancing conversion of propionate to methane under psychrophilic condition.

Water Res

January 2025

Laboratory of Biomass Bio-chemical Conversion, Guang Zhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou 510640, China. Electronic address:

Propionate is a key intermediate in anaerobic digestion (AD) under low operational temperatures, which can destabilize the process. In this study, the supplementation of syntrophic cold-tolerant consortia and trace elements significantly improved the performance of psychrophilic (20 °C) reactor, increasing methane production to 91 % of mesophilic reactor levels and reducing propionate concentrations to less than 2 % of those in untreated psychrophilic reactors. Multi-omics analyses revealed that psychrophilic conditions downregulated the methylmalonyl-CoA and aceticlastic methanogenesis pathways.
