Hyperglycemia-induced cartilage degeneration induces osteoarthritis (OA). Since oleanolic acid (OLA) have several pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, we hypothesized it possesses protection against high glucose injured cartilage. We now report that OLA decreased type X collagen and reversed the cartilage degeneration in growth plate from db/db mice.

The incidence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) among older people has been significantly increased. Understanding the epidemiological characteristics, the causes of injury and the outcomes of TBI among older people provides value evidence for designing preventative measures and therapeutic interventions for TBI. In this study, using ICD-9-CM codes in the Chinese Trauma Database, we identified inpatients aged 65years and older diagnosed with TBI between 2001 and 2007 in Chinese military hospitals.

A series of protective responses could be evoked to achieve compensatory adaptation once cardiomyocytes are subjected to chronic hypoxia. MLK3/JNK/c-jun signaling pathway was previously demonstrated to be involved in this process. In the present study, we aim to further examine the performance of MLK3 in hypoxic H9C2 cells and potential mechanism.

There is growing evidence that Mangiferin possess therapeutic benefit during neuroinflammation on various brain injury models due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It is reported that inflammatory plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of secondary injury induced by the blast-induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI). However, the role of mangiferin in bTBI is yet to be studied.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide. Previous studies have revealed that certain members of tripartite motif (TRIM) proteins are involved in carcin ogenesis regulation, but little is known about the function of TRIM68 in human colorectal cancer. To investigate the role of TRIM68 in colorectal cancer SW1116 and HCT116 cell lines, the present study conducted lentivirus-mediated knockdown against TRIM68 and demonstrated that depletion of TRIM68 notably inhibits colorectal cancer cell proliferation and colony formation ability.

The expression patterns and functions of microRNA-134 (miR-134) have been previously studied in numerous types of cancer. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of miR-134 in human breast cancer. In the present study, the expression patterns, biological functions and underlying molecular mechanisms of miR-134 in human breast cancer were investigated.

Background: Catheter-based renal denervation (RDN) is a promising approach to treat hypertension, but innervation patterns limit the response to endovascular RDN and the post-procedural renal artery narrowing or stenosis questions the endovascular ablation strategy. This study was performed to investigate the anti-hypertensive and target organ protective effects of perivascular RDN in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).
Methods: SHR and normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats were divided into sham group (n = 10), radiofrequency ablation group (n = 20) in which rats received bilateral perivascular ablation with radiofrequency energy (2 watts), and chemical (10% phenol in 95% ethanol) ablation group (n = 12).

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) provide an essential 2-D microenvironment for cardiomyocyte growth and function. However, it remains to be elucidated whether CNT nanostructures can promote cell-cell integrity and facilitate the formation of functional tissues in 3-D hydrogels. Here, single-walled CNTs were incorporated into collagen hydrogels to fabricate (CNT/Col) hydrogels, which improved mechanical and electrical properties.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy is a promising cancer treatment that has recently been undergoing rapid development. However, there are still some major challenges, including precise tumor targeting to avoid off-target or "on-target/off-tumor" toxicity, adequate T cell infiltration and migration to solid tumors and T cell proliferation and persistence across the physical and biochemical barriers of solid tumors. In this review, we focus on the primary challenges and strategies to design safe and effective CAR T cells, including using novel cutting-edge technologies for CAR and vector designs to increase both the safety and efficacy, further T cell modification to overcome the tumor-associated immune suppression, and using gene editing technologies to generate universal CAR T cells.

Aim: To determine the regulation and function of the neural precursor cell expressed developmentally down regulated protein 4 (NEDD4) in PDAC and to determine its dependency on phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) and PI3K/AKT signaling.
Methods: We investigated the expression of NEDD4 and the tumor suppressor PTEN in normal immortalized human pancreatic duct epithelial cell line and pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cell lines. We further evaluated whether RNAi-mediated depletion of NEDD4 can attenuate PDAC cell proliferation and migration.

Aims: To investigate the impact of CCND1 and EFEMP1 gene polymorphism, and additional their gene-gene interactions and haplotype within EFEMP1 gene on glioma risk based on Chinese population.
Methods: Logistic regression was performed to investigate association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) and glioma risk and generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) was used to analyze the gene-gene interaction.
Results: Glioma risks were higher in carriers of homozygous mutant of rs603965 within CCND1 gene, rs1346787 and rs3791679 in EFEMP1 gene than those with wild-type homozygotes, OR (95%CI) were 1.

Achromobacter insolitus is a newly described, Gram-negative, small (1-2 mm long) and coccoid pathogen that has been isolated from leg wound. Due to its potential threat to human beings, the type strain of this species LMG 6003T was completely sequenced in this study. The genomic analysis revealed that the genome of LMG 6003T consists of one circular DNA chromosome of 6 492 697 bp with a GC content of 65.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the gene mutational characteristics of cathepsin C (CTSC) gene in a Chinese patient with Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome (PLS), then further confirm the genetic basis for the phenotype of PLS, and obtain genetic information that can be used as guide in the diagnosis and treatment of PLS.
Methods: With their consent, peripheral blood samples were obtained from the proband and his family members (his parents and older sister) for genomic DNA extraction. The coding region and exon/intron boundaries of the CTSC gene were amplified and sequenced using poly-merase chain reaction and direct sequencing of DNA.

To explore the mutations of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and direct DNA sequencing were used to detect the mutations of VDR gene(loci Fok Ⅰ, Bsm Ⅰ, Apa Ⅰ, Taq Ⅰ) in forty MM cases and 84 healthy control subjects. A synonymous mutation (ATC→ATA , both encode isoleucine) at cDNA codon1421 of VDR gene was found in one MM patients, which correlated to a better therapeutic response.
