White matter lesions (WMLs) have been associated with cognitive and motor decline. Resting state networks (RSNs) are spatially coherent patterns in the human brain and their interactions sustain our daily function. Therefore, investigating the altered intra- and inter-network connectivity among the RSNs may help to understand the association of WMLs with impaired cognitive and motor function.

Epigenetic abnormalities play important roles in the pathogenesis of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). Highly expressed class I histone acetyltransferase (HDAC) and hyper-methylation of the promoter region of tumor suppressor genes have been demonstrated in Hodgkin lymphoma. In this paper, we investigated the synergistic effects of combination treatment of chidamide, a selective HDAC inhibitor, and decitabine, a demethylation agent, for HL cell lines and explored a new strategy for treating HL.

Background: Intracoronary stent restenosis, characterized by excessive smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation and myointimal hyperplasia, remains a clinical challenge. Mitochondrial membrane potential has been linked to the proliferative rate of SMCs. This study aimed to screen a critical gene regulating mitochondrial potential and to confirm its effects on myointimal formation in preclinical animal models.

Adjuvants are widely used to enhance the effects of vaccines against pathogen infections. Interestingly, different adjuvants and vaccination routes usually induce dissimilar immune responses, and can even have completely opposite effects. The mechanism remains unclear.

BD750, a novel JAK3/STAT5 inhibitor, can inhibit T cell proliferation. This study aims to evaluate whether BD750 can induce tolerogenic dendritic cells (tolDC) and their function in experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE) in mice. Following BD750 treatment, LPS-induced maturation of DC, allogeneic T cell proliferation, Th1 and Th17 cell functional differentiation, the STAT5 and AKT activation were determined.

We report a case of port-site metastasis after laparoscopic surgery for early stage uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS) and review the related literature. A 53-year-old woman with suspected uterine malignance underwent a total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, infra-colic omentectomy, and pelvic lymphadenectomy resulting pathologically in a stage IA UCS. Twelve months later she developed a palpable abdominal-wall mass at the trocar site without other synchronous metastases.

BACKGROUND Through the clinical use of positron emission tomography, we aimed to elucidate the complex relationship between glucose uptake and squamous cell oral cancer (ScOC) growth, along with its mechanism with respect to tissue blood flow (tBF). MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed a total of 69 newly diagnosed ScOC patients by Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET). Maximum and mean standard uptake values (SUV↑ and SUV) were recorded to assess glucose uptake.

Lower cellular adhesion and dense fibrous capsule formation around silicone breast implants caused by lower biocompatibility is a serious clinical problem. Preliminary work has shown that ion implantation enhances cell adhesion. Whether the biocompatibility is further enhanced by higher doses of carbon ion implantation and the mechanism by which ion implantation enhances biocompatibility remain unclear.

Challenges remain in engineering cardiac tissues with functional and morphological properties similar to those of native myocardium. In the current study, micropatterned fibrous mats are obtained by deposition of electrospun fibers on lithographic collectors to reproduce the anisotropic structure of myocardium, and carbon nanotubes are included in fibers to provide conductivities at the same level of cardiac muscles. The patterned mats are assembled layer-by-layer into patterned scaffolds for coculture of primary cardiomyocytes (CMs) with cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) and endothelial cells (ECs).

Increasing evidence indicates that inflammatory processes play a crucial role in the etiopathology of epilepsy and seizure disorders. The Toll/IL-1R domain-containing adapter-inducing IFN-β (TRIF) activated several transcriptions leading to the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the central nervous system, which suggests a potential role for TRIF in the epileptogenesis of epilepsy. In this study, we investigated the roles of TRIF in human and mice epileptogenic tissues.

There is a lack of effective targeted therapies for the treatment of complement dependent diseases. We developed two recombinant Fc multimers, G207 and G211, with limited ability to interact with low/moderate affinity FcγRs, but with high avidity for C1q. These drugs effectively inhibited complement dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) in vitro, and prevented the deposition of C1q, C3b and MAC, on the surface of Ab-opsonized cells.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains difficult to cure due to its drug tolerance and refractoriness. Immunotherapy is a growing area of cancer research, which has been applied for the treatment of numerous types of cancer, including leukemia. The present study generated AML cell-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and investigated the effect of combining CTL treatment with one of the most commonly used drugs for the treatment of hematological malignancies, cytarabine, on AML cell apoptosis.

Choline phosphate (CP), which is a new zwitterionic molecule, and has the reverse order of phosphate choline (PC) and could bind to the cell membrane though the unique CP-PC interaction. Here we modified a glass surface with multilayer CP molecules using surface-initiated atom-transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) and the ring-opening method. Polymeric brushes of (dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) were synthesized by SI-ATRP from the glass surface.

The present study aimed to investigate the protective role of the interleukin (IL)‑6/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3)/microRNA (miR)‑34a signaling pathway in patients with neonatal lung injury (NLI) and the underlying molecular mechanisms of these effects. It was demonstrated that miR‑34a serum expression was significantly upregulated in patients and mice with NLI. Meanwhile, IL‑6 and phosphorylated‑STAT3 protein expression, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)‑α, IL‑1β and IL‑18 activity levels in NLI mice were significantly induced compared with the normal control group.

Background: Abnormal lipid metabolism is one of many factors that contribute to the development of ulcerative colitis (UC). As a lipid droplet-associated protein, Cideb facilitated the export of lipids from enterocytes and promoted intestinal lipid absorption. We found that Cideb was upregulated in the colonic mucosa of both UC patients and dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced mouse colitis, but its roles in the pathogenesis of UC are still ill-defined.

Primary pancreatic lymphoma (PPL) is an extremely rare form of extranodal malignant lymphoma. The most common histological subtype of PPL is diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). In rare cases, PPL can also present as follicular lymphoma, small lymphocytic lymphoma, and T cell lymphoma either of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma or of Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Mitochondrial Ca overload is a main contributor to mitochondrial damage hence cardiomyocyte death in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury. MICU1 has been recently identified as an important regulator of mitochondrial Ca homeostasis. Here we try to identify the role of MICU1 in MI/R, and to investigate whether the mitochondrial importer receptor Tom70 possesses critical roles in the mitochondrial translocation of MICU1 and MI/R.
