Although K channels are important in mediating the driving force for colonic ion transport, their role in small intestinal transport is poorly understood. To investigate this, small intestinal short circuit currents ( ) and HCO secretion were measured in mice, and intracellular pH (pH) was measured in small intestinal epithelial SCBN cells. The expression and location of Kv subtypes were verified by RT-PCR, western blotting and immunohistochemistry.

Cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) are a critical cell population responsible for myocardial extracellular matrix homeostasis. After stimulation by myocardial infarction (MI), CFs transdifferentiate into cardiac myofibroblasts (CMFs) and play a fundamental role in the fibrotic healing response. Transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channels are cationic ion channels with a high fractional Ca current, and they are known to influence cardiac function after MI injury; however, the molecular mechanisms regulating CMF transdifferentiation remain poorly understood.

Controlled release of functional factors contributes to target migration of therapeutic cells and plays a crucial role in the in situ vascularization of tissue repair and regeneration. A biomedical application requires the selective release of multiple factors which will guide the synergy of the cells. Here, we developed an injectable system based on a temperature-responsive hydrogel and stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1)/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) loaded into two types of nanoparticles to induce migration and rapid proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and endothelial cells (ECs) via selective SDF-1/VEGF release.

Adult stem cell-based therapy has been regarded as a promising treatment for tissue ischemia because of its ability to promote new blood vessel formation. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells are the most used angiogenic cells for therapeutic neovascularization, yet the side effects and low efficacy have limited their clinical application. Adipose stromal vascular fraction is an easily accessible, heterogeneous cell system comprised of endothelial, stromal, and hematopoietic cell lineages, which has been shown to spontaneously form robust, patent, and functional vasculatures in vivo.

Environmental temperature plays a role in the variation of blood pressure. Maternal cold stress could affect the physiological phenotype of the offspring, including blood pressure elevation. In the present study, we found that adult offspring of dams exposed to cold have increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and decreased urine volume and sodium excretion, accompanied by increased heart rate and heart rate variability, secondary to increased activity of the sympathetic nervous system.

Accumulated pieces of evidence have proved the beneficial effects of melatonin on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury, and these effects were largely dependent on melatonin membrane receptor activation. In humans and other mammals, there are two types of melatonin receptors, including the melatonin receptor 1 (MT1, melatonin receptor 1a or MTNR1A) and melatonin receptor 1 (MT2, melatonin receptor 1b or MTNR1B) receptor subtypes. However, which receptor mediates melatonin-conferred cardioprotection remains unclear.

Background: Although endoscopic management of pancreatic strictures by dilation and stenting is well established, some high-grade strictures are refractory to conventional methods. Here, we report a novel technique via accessory pancreatic duct (APD) approach to simultaneously release chronic pancreatitis-associated pancreatic stricture and correct anomalous pancreaticobiliary junction (APBJ). Due to APBJ and stricture of proximal main pancreatic duct, the APD turned out to be compensatory expansion.
