Pregnant women with chronic kidney disease (CKD) face increased risks of adverse outcomes in their adult offspring. Offspring rats born to dams fed an adenine diet develop hypertension, coinciding with dysregulated hydrogen sulfide (HS) and nitric oxide (NO) pathways, as well as alterations in gut microbiota. Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is a multifunctional food known for its diverse bioactivities.

Roasting is necessary for bringing out the aroma and flavor of coffee beans, making coffee one of the most consumed beverages. However, this process also generates a series of toxic compounds, including acrylamide and furanic compounds (5-hydroxymethylfurfural, furan, 2-methylfuran, 3-methylfuran, 2,3-dimethylfuran, and 2,5-dimethylfuran). Furthermore, not much is known about the formation of these compounds in emerging coffee formulations containing alcohol and sugars.

The main purpose of this paper is to examine the above proposition, taking the strict lockdown policy and supply chain disruption in Hubei Province at the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic as a case, to provide decision-making reference for the government in supply chain management under major public health crisis. To achieve this goal, this paper firstly measures the supply chain network of Hubei province via the multi-region and multi-sector value-added model; then empirically studies the impact of lockdown policy and supply chain disruption on provincial economic growth, with the monthly data of 31 provinces covering January 2018 to December 2022, by the Difference in Difference method.

The presence of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in consumer products, waste treatment processes, and treated ashes poses a significant environmental threat. Due to the lack of research on the removal of PBDEs during waste incineration, this study investigated the effectiveness of a Hazardous Waste Thermal Treatment System (HAWTTS) utilizing reburning of sludge and fly ash (SFA) with gasification-moderate or intense low-oxygen dilution (GASMILD) combustion for PBDE removal. The closed-loop treatment of sludge and ash within the HAWTTS provides a potential pathway for near-zero PBDE emissions.

The pervasive presence of microplastics has emerged as a pressing global environmental concern, posing threats to food security and human health upon infiltrating agricultural soils. These microplastics primarily originate from agricultural activities, including fertilizer inputs, compost-based soil remediation, irrigation, and atmospheric deposition. Their remarkable durability and resistance to biodegradation contribute to their persistent presence in the environment.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO) production via oxygen (O) reduction reaction (ORR) in pure water (HO) through graphitic carbon nitrides (g-CN)-based piezo-photocatalysts is an exciting approach in many current studies. However, the low Lewis-acid properties of g-CN limited the catalytic performance because of the low O adsorption efficacy. To overcome this challenge, the interaction of g-CN precursors with various solvents are utilized to synthesize g-CN, possessing multiple nitrogen-vacant species via thermal shocking polymerization.

Resveratrol, acting as a prebiotic, and propionate, functioning as a postbiotic, hold promise for preventing hypertension in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Previously, we employed propionate to enhance the bioavailability of resveratrol through esterification, resulting in the production of a resveratrol propionate ester (RPE) mixture. In this study, we purified 3-O-propanoylresveratrol (RPE2) and 3,4'-di-O-propanoylresveratrol (RPE4) and investigated their protective effects in a juvenile rat adenine-induced CKD model.

Exogenous polyamines, including putrescine (PUT), spermidine (SPD), and spermine (SPM), and the irreversible inhibitor of the rate-limiting enzyme ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) of polyamine biosynthesis, α-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO), are implicated as stimulants for bone formation. We demonstrate in this study the osteogenic potential of exogenous polyamines and DFMO in human osteoblasts (hOBs), murine monocyte cell line RAW 264.7, and an ovariectomized rat model.

Permeable road pavements, due to their open-graded design, suffer from low structural strength, restricting their use in areas with light traffic volume and low bearing capacity. To expand application of permeable road pavements, accurate simulation of stress parameters used in pavement design is essential. A 3D finite element (3D FE) model was developed using ABAQUS/CAE 2021 to simulate pavement stress responses.

Bone drilling is a common procedure used to create pilot holes for inserting screws to secure implants for fracture fixation. However, this process can increase bone temperature and the excessive heat can lead to cell death and thermal osteonecrosis, potentially causing early fixation failure or complications. We applied a three-dimensional dynamic elastoplastic finite element model to evaluate the propagation and distribution of heat during bone drilling and assess the thermally affected zone (TAZ) that may lead to thermal necrosis.

Mud volcanoes are dynamic geological features releasing methane (CH), carbon dioxide (CO), and hydrocarbons, harboring diverse methane and hydrocarbon-degrading microbes. However, the potential application of these microbial communities in chlorinated hydrocarbons bioremediation purposes such as trichloroethylene (TCE) has not yet been explored. Hence, this study investigated the mud volcano's microbial diversity functional potentiality in TCE degradation as well as their eco-physiological profiling using metabolic activity.

2D/2D step-scheme (S-scheme) piezo-photocatalysts for the production of fine chemicals, such as hydrogen peroxide (HO), have attracted significant attention of global scientists owing to the efficiency in utilizing surface piezoelectric effects from 2D materials to overcome rapid charge recombination in photocatalytic processes. In this research, we reported the fabrication of 2D S-doped VO deposited on 2D g-CN to produce HO via the piezo-photocatalytic process with high production yields at 20.19 mmol g h, which was 1.

Endometriosis is a complex gynecological disease that affects more than 10% of women in their reproductive years. While surgery can provide temporary relief from women's pain, symptoms often return in as many as 75% of cases within two years. Previous literature has contributed to theories about the development of endometriosis; however, the exact pathogenesis and etiology remain elusive.
