People with hemophilia (PWH), especially severe hemophilia, often experience bleeding episodes, which occur mostly at major joints. Intramural hematoma of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a rare, potentially life-threatening clinical bleeding manifestation in PWH. Prompt identification and timely administration of clotting factor concentrates are of utmost importance for effective management and optimal patient outcomes.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a multifactorial cardiovascular disease with a high risk of death, and it occurs in the infrarenal aorta with vascular dilatation. High blood pressure acts on the aortic wall, resulting in rupture and causing life-threatening intra-abdominal hemorrhage. Vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) dysregulation and extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, especially elastin breaks, contribute to structural changes in the aortic wall.

In this work, we demonstrated a novel cancer antigen 125 (CA125) biomarker detection based on electrochemical immunosensor. The biomarker on conductive composite materials of carbon ink/carbon dot/zine oxide (C-ink/CD/ZnO) was employed as an electrode platform by using ITO substrate to enhance the interaction of antibodies (Ab) with supporting catalytic performance of ZnO as a labeling signal molecule. They were a scientist attention for biosensor with chemical stability, strong biocompatibility, high conductive signal, and accuracy.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate (1) the role of mouth puffing phenomenon and upper airway features in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and (2) whether mouth-taping during sleep alleviated the severity of OSA.
Participants And Methods: Seventy-one participants underwent a two-night home sleep test (the first day sleeping normally; the second day sleeping with their mouths being taped); their oximetry desaturation index (ODI) and mouth puffing signals (non-mouth puffing, complete mouth puffing, intermittent mouth puffing (IMP), and side mouth puffing) were detected by a validated fingertip pulse oximeter and a mouth puffing detector. The participants were grouped into the ODI-improved group and the ODI-not-improved group according to their sleeping test results.

Background: Pharmacotherapy of insomnia is prescribed often but may be complicated by drug dependence. Cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia is effective, but requires time to take effect. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is effective for depression but of uncertain benefit for insomnia.

Beta-blockers are widely used, but the benefit is now challenged in patients at risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in the present coronary reperfusion era. We aimed to identify the risk factors of a major adverse cardiac event (MACE) and the long-term effect of beta-blockers in two large cohorts in Taiwan. Two prospective observational cohorts, including patients with known atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease (T-SPARCLE) and patients with at least one risk factor of ASCVD but without clinically evident ASCVD (T-PPARCLE), were conducted in Taiwan.

Global warming increases the incidence of heat stroke (HS) and HS causes the reduction of visceral blood flow during hyperthermia, leading to intestinal barrier disruption, microbial translocation, systemic inflammation and multiple organ failure. Cathelicidin LL-37 exhibits antimicrobial activities, helps innate immunity within the gut to maintain intestinal homeostasis, and augments intestinal wound healing and barrier function. Thus, we evaluated the effects and possible mechanisms of cathelicidin LL-37 on HS.

Background: Currently, the standard of treatment for trimalleolar (TM) fracture is osteosynthesis through open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). This study assessed whether arthroscopically assisted reduction and minimally invasive surgery (AARMIS) can be an alternative surgical method for TM fractures.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 49 patients with TM that were surgically treated.

The supracerebellar infratentorial (SCIT) approach is commonly used to gain access to the lateral mesencephalic sulcus (LMS), which has been established as a safe entry point into the posterolateral midbrain. This study describes a lateral variant of the SCIT approach, the supreme-lateral SCIT approach, for accessing the LMS through the presigmoid retrolabyrinthine craniectomy and quantitatively compares this approach with the paramedian and extreme-lateral SCIT approaches. Anatomical dissections were performed in four cadaveric heads.

Background: Long-term consumption of an excessive fat and sucrose diet (Western diet, WD) has been considered a risk factor for metabolic syndrome (MS) and cardiovascular disease. Caveolae and caveolin-1 (CAV-1) proteins are involved in lipid transport and metabolism. However, studies investigating CAV-1 expression, cardiac remodeling, and dysfunction caused by MS, are limited.

Background: Both inflammation and oxidative stress contribute to the pathogenesis of sepsis and its associated organ damage. Angiotensin-(1-7), acting through the Mas receptor and angiotensin II-type 2 receptors (AT2R), could attenuate organ dysfunction and improve survival in rats with sepsis. However, the role of AT2R in inflammation and oxidative stress in rats with sepsis is unclear.

The early prediction of overall survival (OS) in patients with lung cancer brain metastases (BMs) after Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) can facilitate patient management and outcome improvement. However, the disease progression is influenced by multiple factors, such as patient characteristics and treatment strategies, and hence satisfactory performance of OS prediction remains challenging. Accordingly, we proposed a deep learning approach based on comprehensive predictors, including clinical, imaging, and genetic information, to accomplish reliable and personalized OS prediction in patients with BMs after receiving GKRS.

A posteriorly dislocated lens is often managed with a fragmatome through a pars plana approach because it is difficult to manage anteriorly. The lens often sinks to the surface of the retina or floats around in the vitreous cavity during pars plana lensectomy. Mechanical trauma can occur while removing the dislocated lens fragments.
