Hydrogels' exceptional mechanical strength and skin-adhesion characteristics offer significant advantages for various applications, particularly in the fields of tissue adhesion and wearable sensors. Herein, we incorporated a combination of metal-coordination and hydrogen-bonding forces in the design of stretchable and adhesive hydrogels. We synthesized four hydrogels, namely PAID-0, PAID-1, PAID-2, and PAID-3, consisting of acrylamide (AAM), '-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA), and methacrylic-modified dopamine (DA).

Monitoring dynamic balance during gait is critical for fall prevention in the elderly. The current study aimed to develop recurrent neural network models for extracting balance variables from a single inertial measurement unit (IMU) placed on the sacrum during walking. Thirteen healthy young and thirteen healthy older adults wore the IMU during walking and the ground truth of the inclination angles (IA) of the center of pressure to the center of mass vector and their rates of changes (RCIA) were measured simultaneously.

Background: Renal function decline is a frequently encountered complication in patients with chronic coronary syndrome. Aside from traditional cardiovascular risk factors, the inflammatory burden emerged as the novel phenotype that compromised renal prognosis in such population.
Methods: A cohort with chronic coronary syndrome was enrolled to investigate the association between inflammatory status and renal dysfunction.

Tinnitus, a frequent disorder, is the conscious perception of a sound in the absence of a corresponding external acoustic sound source in the sense of a phantom sound. Although the majority of people who perceive a tinnitus sound can cope with it and are only minimaly impaired in their quality of lfe, 2-3% of the population perceive tinnitus as a major problem. Recently it has been proposed that the two groups should be differentiated by distict terms: "Tinnitus" describes the auditory or sensory component, whereas "Tinnitus Disorder" reflects the auditory component and the associated suffering.

Objective: Individuals with dementia are at a substantially elevated risk for mortality; however, few studies have examined multimorbidity patterns and determined the inter-relationship between these comorbidities in predicting mortality risk.
Methods: This is a prospective cohort study. Data from 6,556 patients who were diagnosed with dementia between 1997 and 2012 using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database were analyzed.

Background: In patients with kidney or hepatic diseases, an increment of circulating pasireotide is also expected. Therefore, this open-label, phase I study aimed to evaluate the pharmacokinetic profiles and safety of subcutaneous (SC) and long-acting release (LAR) intramuscular injections of pasireotide in male Taiwanese volunteers who are hyperendemic hepatitis B/C and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Methods: A total of 45 male volunteers were randomized to receive one of nine treatment sequences, involving a single subcutaneous injection of 300, 600, or 900 μg pasireotide, a multiple SC injection of the same dosage of pasireotide [300, 600, or 900 μg, twice daily (b.

Objectives: Severe postoperative pain requiring opioid treatment has been reported in 20% to 40% of hemorrhoidectomy patients. Compared with morphine, nalbuphine offers better hemodynamic stability, a lower risk of respiratory depression, and a lower potential for addiction. Nalbuphine was developed from the intravenous form into an oral form (PHN131) to alleviate moderate-to-severe pain.

Background: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEis) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) are commonly used for hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. However, whether their use increases the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) and should be discontinued during acute illness remains controversial.
Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 952 dialysis-free patients who were admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) between 2015 and 2017, including 476 premorbid long-term (> 1 month) ACEi/ARB users.

Cochlear implantation is a major treatment option for severe-to-profound hearing loss. By insertion into the cochlea and stimulation of the cochlear nerve, cochlear implantation can improve the performance of hearing and speech performance of the implantees. The microenvironment of the cochlea is innate and gets disturbed in response to the insertion of a foreign body.

Background: Steady-state auditory evoked responses (SSAERs) are promising indicators of major auditory function. The improvement in accessibility in the clinical setting depends on the standardization and definition of the characteristics of SSAERs. There have been some insights into the changes in the interhemispheric dominance of SSAERs in some clinical entities.

Background: The pathological form of synaptic plasticity, ischemic long-term potentiation (iLTP), induced by oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD), is implicated in the acute phase of stroke with the potentiation of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR). While there has been widespread attention on the excitatory system, a recent study reported that γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic system is also involved in iLTP. Valproic acid (VPA), a histone deacetylase inhibitor, protects against ischemic damage.

Sialic acids (SA) are a kind of nine-carbon backbone sugars, serving as important molecules in cell-to-cell or cell-to-extra-cellular matrix interaction mediated by either O-linked glycosylation or N-linked glycosylation to attach the terminal end of glycans, glycoproteins, and glycolipids. All processes need a balance between sialylation by sialyltransferase (STs) and desialylation by sialidases (also known as neuraminidases, NEU). Although there is much in uncertainty whether the sialyation plays in cancer development and progression, at least four mechanisms are proposed, including surveillance of immune system, modification of cellular apoptosis and cell death, alteration of cellular surface of cancer cells and tumor associated microenvironment responsible carcinogenesis, growth and metastases.
