Background: Accurate identification of infectious diseases using molecular techniques, such as PCR and NGS, is well-established. This study aims to assess the utility of Bactfast and Fungifast in diagnosing bloodstream infections in ICU settings, comparing them against traditional culture methods. The objectives include evaluating sensitivity and specificity and identifying a wide range of pathogens, including non-culturable species.

Background: Critical care beds are a limited resource, yet research indicates that recommendations for postoperative critical care admission based on patient-level risk stratification are not followed. It is unclear how prioritisation decisions are made in real-world settings and the effect of this prioritisation on outcomes.
Methods: This was a prespecified analysis of an observational cohort study of adult patients undergoing inpatient surgery, conducted in 274 hospitals across the UK and Australasia during 2017.

Background: The emergence of zero echo time (ZTE) imaging has transformed bone imaging, overcoming historical limitations in capturing detailed bone structures. By minimizing the time gap between radiofrequency excitation and data acquisition, ZTE generates CT-like images. While ZTE has shown promise in various applications, its potential in assessing skull base and calvarium lesions remains unexplored.

Around 5% of patients with cirrhosis of the liver develop hepatic hydrothorax (HH). For patients with refractory HH (RHH), transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) has been investigated in small studies. Hence, the present meta-analysis aimed to summarize the current data on the outcome of TIPS in patients with RHH.

Cancer remains one of the predominant causes of mortality globally, accounting for over 10 million deaths each year. Despite advancements in medical treatments, the challenge of resistance and treatment failure persists, necessitating innovative approaches. Traditional cancer treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and pharmaceutical therapy.

Introduction: The current literature suggests that the frequency and complexity of public health emergencies are rising and this trend will likely continue. From 2000 to 2023, seven events have been declared as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO). Organisational models such as the Incident Management System, Incident Response System and Incident Command System or country-specific models are essential in managing PHEIC.

This Letter presents results from a combination of searches for Higgs boson pair production using 126-140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. At 95% confidence level (CL), the upper limit on the production rate is 2.9 times the standard model (SM) prediction, with an expected limit of 2.

This Letter presents the first study of the energy dependence of diboson polarization fractions in WZ→ℓνℓ^{'}ℓ^{'}(ℓ,ℓ^{'}=e,μ) production. The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Two fiducial regions with an enhanced presence of events featuring two longitudinally polarized bosons are defined.

Congenital absence of ribs is a quite unusual entity that can present as an isolated finding or as a part of syndrome. Rib defects may be associated with maldevelopment of vertebral column or thoracic musculature. The congenital rib agenesis has been reported postnatally in a few case reports.

Background: While REIMS technology has successfully been demonstrated for the histological identification of ex-vivo breast tumor tissues, questions regarding the robustness of the approach and the possibility of tumor molecular diagnostics still remain unanswered. In the current study, we set out to determine whether it is possible to acquire cross-comparable REIMS datasets at multiple sites for the identification of breast tumors and subtypes.
Methods: A consortium of four sites with three of them having access to fresh surgical tissue samples performed tissue analysis using identical REIMS setups and protocols.

Rydberg atoms in optical lattices and tweezers is now a well-established platform for simulating quantum spin systems. However, the role of the atoms' spatial wave function has not been examined in detail experimentally. Here, we show a strong spin-motion coupling emerging from the large variation of the interaction potential over the wave function spread.

Background: Cystoid macular edema (CME) can develop following silicone oil placement in complex vitreoretinal surgeries, contributing to poor visual outcomes. In this study, we investigated the clinical and surgical characteristics associated with the development of CME following the use of silicone oil (SO) in pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) surgeries.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients who underwent implantation of SO during PPV from 2010 to 2020 by a single surgeon.

Sediment loss and export pose significant global environmental issues, profoundly affecting water quality, soil fertility, and ecosystem stability, particularly in vulnerable mountain ecosystems like the Indian Himalayas. The present study used remote sensing data and the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs (InVEST) sediment delivery ratio (SDR) model to analyze spatial-temporal variations in soil loss (SL), sediment export (SE), and sediment retention (SR) capabilities in the South Shimla watershed, Himachal Pradesh, India, from 1993 to 2023. The findings showed significant changes in land use and land cover (LULC): evergreen forest and scrub land decreased sharply by 11.
