Article Synopsis
  • A total of 150 women underwent bilateral mammography and breast ultrasounds, revealing a 5.1% false-negative rate, with major contributing factors being lesion-related (39.7%), patient-related (26.7%), provider-related (19.3%), and technical-related issues (26.7%).
  • The findings emphasize the impact of dense breast tissue on missed diagnoses and recommend incorporating additional imaging methods like ultrasounds to improve detection rates, particularly for younger women, suggesting potential updates to Pakistan's national breast cancer screening guidelines.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children and adolescents and its occurrence in adults is extremely rare. There are three major subtypes of RMS of which alveolar RMS (ARMS) has the worst prognosis and tends to metastasize to unusual locations such as the pancreas. We present a case of a 19-year-old male with a rapidly enlarging right orbital mass, the imaging of which revealed it to be an infiltrative lesion with extension into the nasal cavity, ethmoid sinuses, and intracranial involvement.

Introduction The Killip classification system was introduced for clinical assessment of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI). It stratifies individuals according to the severity of their post-MI heart failure. This system provides effective stratification of long-term and short-term outcomes in patients with acute MI and influences the treatment strategies.

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is one of the inherited causes of coronary artery disease (CAD) and causes calcific valvular degeneration in rare cases. A 13-year-old boy with multiple xanthomas presented with severe chest pain, shortness of breath, and sweating. He was diagnosed with premature CAD leading to non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction, secondary to early-onset FH [severely raised low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides (TG) on lipid profile].

Objectives: Radial artery occlusion is a silent complication of a transradial approach to cardiac catheterization that may complicate subsequent transradial procedures in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. A transradial band reduces vascular complications and provides brisk, powerful and effective haemostasis. The purpose of this study was to assess the frequency of radial artery occlusion in 180 patients undergoing transradial coronary catheterization.

Introduction The aim of this study was to compare the in-hospital outcomes of multiport antegrade cold blood cardioplegia through vein grafts versus conventional antegrade cold blood cardioplegia in patients with left ventricle systolic dysfunction who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Methods This prospective, randomized clinical study was comprised of patients undergoing on-pump CABG at the Ch. Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology in Multan, Pakistan from November 18, 2018 to December 17, 2019.

Introduction Non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is becoming more common than ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and data regarding presence of underlying multivessel coronary artery disease (MVCAD) in these patients is consistent in locoregional population that leads to lethal delays in proper management. Therefore, in the current study, we aimed to evaluate the frequency of MVCAD in NSTEMI with markedly raised troponin T levels. This will help to identify patients that should be labeled as high risk and must be referred for coronary revascularization on priority basis, so that clinical outcomes can be improved in these patients.

Background: Hodgkin lymphoma is one of the most prevalent lymphoproliferative disorders in Pakistan; however, no risk factors for this disease have yet to be established in our population. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a well-known risk factor for Hodgkin lymphoma in endemic regions of the world; however, frequency of its association in our population has not been widely studied. Latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) expression by immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a surrogate marker of EBV in Hodgkin lymphoma.
