Introduction: This case study describes a primary lung tumour invading the chest wall, that clinically was thought likely to be a lipoma, and was imaged first using ultrasound.
Case Report: A 67 year old male presented to his GP with a six month history of a lump increasing in size on the left upper chest wall. The ultrasound scan demonstrated a hypoechoic and hypervascular soft tissue mass, extending out of the chest into the subcutaneous tissue and starting to erode the overlying rib.
Life participation requiring physical activity and physical function is a key patient-reported outcome for people receiving peritoneal dialysis (PD). Clinician guidance is required from multidisciplinary sources regarding exercise and activity advice to address the specific needs of this group. From August 2020 through to June 2021, the Global Renal Exercise Network and the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis reviewed the published literature and international clinical experience to develop a set of clinical practice points.

Background: Time spent in hospital (length of stay) is an important component of patient experience and the financial cost of cancer care. This study documents the length of stay across English cancer diagnoses at a national level and reports on variation by patient demographics and tumour characteristics.
Methods: Data on all diagnoses of malignant neoplasms from the English National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service for 252,202 patients first diagnosed in 2015 was linked with NHS Digital's Admitted Patient Care and Outpatient Hospital Episode Statistics datasets to quantify length of stay within one year following diagnosis.
The genetic make-up of an individual contributes to the susceptibility and response to viral infection. Although environmental, clinical and social factors have a role in the chance of exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and the severity of COVID-19, host genetics may also be important. Identifying host-specific genetic factors may reveal biological mechanisms of therapeutic relevance and clarify causal relationships of modifiable environmental risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection and outcomes.

This case series reports familial cases of nodular oncocytic hyperplasia (NOH) diagnosed in a mother and her son, 15 years apart. A 39-year-old man presented in 2003 with a lump below his left ear. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed showed multifocal parotid nodules and a diagnosis of NOH was histopathologically confirmed following left total parotidectomy.

Background: There is lack of data on feasibility and safety of kidney transplants from living donors who recovered from COVID-19.
Methods: Here, we present a retrospective cohort study of 31 kidney transplant recipients (KTR) from living donors who recovered from polymerase chain reaction confirmed COVID-19 across 19 transplant centers in India from July 3, 2020, to December 5, 2020. We detailed demographics, clinical manifestations, immunosuppression regimen, treatment, and outcomes.

Survivors of childhood cancer may be at risk of experiencing pain, and a systematic review would advance our understanding of pain in this population. The objective of this study was to describe: 1) the prevalence of pain in survivors of childhood cancer, 2) methods of pain measurement, 3) associations between pain and biopsychosocial factors, and 4) recommendations for future research. Data sources for the study were articles published from January 1990 to August 2019 identified in the PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, and Web of Science data bases.

Kidney failure is an important outcome for patients, clinicians, researchers, healthcare systems, payers, and regulators. However, no harmonized international consensus definitions of kidney failure and key surrogates of progression to kidney failure exist specifically for clinical trials. The International Society of Nephrology convened an international multi-stakeholder meeting to develop consensus on this topic.

This work aims to assess the efficacy of x-ray quality assurance tests undertaken on fluoroscopy units in the UK. Information was gathered on the results of image quality tests recommended by the reports of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, and those additionally undertaken by medical physics departments. The assessment of efficacy considers the frequency with which a test result breaches the remedial level or other relevant threshold where applicable.

A total of four strains of the 'environmental superbug' Pedobacter isolated from sludge produced at Norwegian drinking water treatment plants, were characterized by whole genome sequencing and antibiotic susceptibility assays. As with previous studies on members of this genus, we found that the isolates were multi-drug resistant, and that this resistance included clinically important beta-lactams, aminoglycosides and the fluoroquinolone ciprofloxacin. Using the minION sequencing platform (Oxford Nanopore Technologies) combined with HiSeq PE150 Illumina sequencing data, the four isolates were assembled into genomes of single contigs.

Sarcomas commonly occur in the buttock and thigh, although the clinical presentation varies with no specific symptoms other than a painless lump. This case study reports on a soft-tissue sarcoma that was initially thought to be a haematoma on ultrasound, despite being rescanned 6 weeks later. The patient presented back to their general practitioner 8 months later with the subsequent ultrasound showing an irregular and hypervascular soft-tissue mass.

The dynamics related to the loss of stx genes from Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli remain unclear. Current diagnostic procedures have shortcomings in the detection and identification of STEC. This is partly owing to the fact that stx genes may be lost during an infection or in the laboratory.
