Background: The arteriovenous access stage (AVAS) classification provides evaluation of upper extremity vessels for vascular access (VA) suitability. It divides patients into classes within three main groups: suitable for native fistula (AVAS1) or prosthetic graft (AVAS2), and patients not suitable for conventional native or prosthetic VA (AVAS3). Methods: Data on patients diagnosed with MM from China during 1990-2019 were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 database, including annual cases and deaths data and age-standardized rates of incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) associated with MM among different age groups. Temporal trends during 1990-2019 were analyzed by the Joinpoint regression models using 95% confidence interval (CI), while the projections through 2029 were calculated by the Bayesian age-period-cohort model.

It has long been known that environmental conditions, particularly during development, affect morphological and functional properties of the brain including sensory systems; manipulating the environment thus represents a viable way to explore experience-dependent plasticity of the brain as well as of sensory systems. In this review, we summarize our experience with the effects of acoustically enriched environment (AEE) consisting of spectrally and temporally modulated complex sounds applied during first weeks of the postnatal development in rats and compare it with the related knowledge from the literature. Compared to controls, rats exposed to AEE showed in neurons of several parts of the auditory system differences in the dendritic length and in number of spines and spine density.

Recent advances in endoscopic technology have allowed detailed observation of the gastric mucosa, including Raman microscopy and spectroscopy. To explore the possibilities for future diagnostic use, we discuss the measurements and molecular markers found in this tissue. The Raman spectra of 16 samples of antral mucosa and 16 samples of corpus gastric mucosa obtained from healthy donors were analysed.

'Natural childbirth' continues to matter to women in today's world. Building on qualitative research informed by constructivist grounded theory, I aim to bring insight into the birth experiences of women who demanded 'natural childbirth' in Czech hospitals in the context of a highly medicalized birth care system. I explore four themes: (1) the requirements of birth care, (2) strategies to achieve 'natural childbirth', (3) women's views of the hospital environment, (4) that of healthcare providers.
