Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LG-ESS) can present diagnostic challenges, due to its overlapping morphological features with other uterine mesenchymal tumors. Misdiagnosis rates remain significant, and immunohistochemical data for LG-ESS are limited to small series and inconsistent antibody panels. This study aimed to refine the IHC profile of LG-ESS by analyzing a large, molecularly confirmed series of 147 cases using a panel of 24 antibodies, including newer markers like transgelin and smoothelin.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess how accurately the collapsibility of the internal jugular vein (IJV) can predict fluid responsiveness in patients who are breathing on their own after heart surgery.
  • - Conducted with 54 patients post-cardiac surgery, results showed that while those who responded to fluid therapy had lower IJV diameters at baseline, the overall ability of IJV collapsibility to predict fluid responsiveness was limited.
  • - The findings concluded that IJV collapsibility is not a reliable predictor for fluid responsiveness in these patients, with a sensitivity of 76.5% and a specificity of only 38.9%.

Background: In relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) the most common treatment strategy has been to start with low-moderate efficacy disease modifying therapy (LE-DMT) and to escalate to more efficacious treatments in cases of breakthrough disease activity. However, recent evidence suggests a better outcome in patients commencing with moderate-high efficacy DMT (HE-DMT) immediately after clinical onset.

Objective: The aim of this study is to compare disease activity and disability outcomes in patients treated with the two alternative strategies using the Swedish and Czech national multiple sclerosis registries, taking advantage of the fact that the relative frequency of each strategy differs markedly between these two countries.

Article Synopsis
  • End-expiratory occlusion (EEO) and end-inspiratory occlusion (EIO) tests were evaluated to see if they could accurately predict fluid responsiveness in patients after cardiac surgery.
  • The study involved 57 patients who underwent elective coronary artery bypass grafting, focusing on measurements like cardiac index (CI) and stroke volume before and after fluid expansion.
  • Results showed that neither EEO nor EIO could reliably predict fluid responsiveness, with a combined measure showing low sensitivity and specificity when assessing CI changes.

The pathogenesis of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), including the associated local changes in deep paravertebral muscles, is poorly understood. The asymmetric expression of several molecules involved in the melatonin signaling pathway, including melatonin receptors 1A/1B (MTNR1A/MTNR1B), estrogen receptor 2 (ESR2) and calmodulin (CALM1), has previously been suggested to be associated with AIS. However, this hypothesis is based on single studies in which the data were obtained by different methodological approaches.
