Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a rare entity in children but carries a burden of high mortality and morbidity. Medical treatment of pediatric CHF is largely based on guidelines for the adult population. In contrast to adults, evidence for the efficacy of medications in treating CHF in children is sparse.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare condition following SARS-CoV-2 infection associated with intestinal manifestations. Genetic predisposition, including inborn errors of the OAS-RNAseL pathway, has been reported. We sequenced 154 MIS-C patients and utilized a novel statistical framework of gene burden analysis, "burdenMC," which identified an enrichment for rare predicted-deleterious variants in BTNL8 (OR = 4.

Unlabelled: PURPOSE : Phase contrast magnetic resonance imaging (PC-MRI) represents an opportunity to non-invasively investigate cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) flow in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). Studies in recent years have explored the diagnostic and prognostic value of PC-MRI derived parameters. This review aims to identify all PC-MRI studies of iNPH published since 2010, synthesise a review based on collated results, and analyse specific flow parameters identified in the selected studies.

Evidence on serological responses to vaccination in children exposed to ustekinumab (UST) or vedolizumab (VDZ) in utero is lacking. This multicentre prospective study aimed to assess the impact of prenatal exposure to UST or VDZ due to maternal inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) on serological responses to vaccination and other immunological parameters in exposed children. Children aged ≥ 1 year who were exposed in utero to UST or VDZ and completed at least 1-year of mandatory vaccination were included.

Creatinine is the end product of the catabolism of creatine and creatine phosphate. Creatine phosphate serves as a reservoir of high-energy phosphate, especially in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Besides typical known changes in serum and urinary creatinine concentrations, rare cases associated with changes in serum and urinary creatine levels have been described in the literature in humans.

Aims: To present a new method of dynamic Purkinje-metry and to verify it by comparison with a commercially available anterior segment optical coherence tomography CASIA2.
Patients And Methods: A dynamic Purkinje-meter with a movable fixation target was assembled. A coaxial circular pattern formed by infrared LEDs was projected onto the eye and evoked Purkinje images (1st, 3rd, 4th = P1, P3, P4).

Intracellular trafficking involves an intricate machinery of motor complexes including the dynein complex to shuttle cargo for autophagolysosomal degradation. Deficiency in dynein axonemal chains as well as cytoplasmic light and intermediate chains have been linked with ciliary dyskinesia and skeletal dysplasia. The cytoplasmic dynein 1 heavy chain protein (DYNC1H1) serves as a core complex for retrograde trafficking in neuronal axons.

Background: The central vein sign (CVS) has been proposed as a novel MRI biomarker to improve diagnosis of pediatric-onset MS (POMS). However, the role of CVS in POMS progression has yet to be discovered.
Objectives: To investigate the appearance of CVS and its correlation with POMS disease progression.

Cluster analyzes of facial models of autistic patients aim to clarify whether it is possible to diagnose autism on the basis of facial features and further to stratify the autism spectrum disorder. We performed a cluster analysis of sets of 3D scans of ASD patients (116) and controls (157) using Euclidean and geodesic distances in order to recapitulate the published results on the Czech population. In the presented work, we show that the major factor determining the clustering structure and consequently also the correlation of resulting clusters with autism severity degree is body mass index corrected for age (BMIFA).

Aims: To evaluate glucose control non-inferiority and time benefits of telemedicine follow-up in children with type 1 diabetes (CwD).
Methods: In a single-center 9-month-long randomized controlled study (clinicaltrials.gov NCT05484427), 50 children were randomized to either telemedicine group (TG) followed-up distantly by e-mail, or to face-to-face group (FFG) attending standard personal visits.

Background And Aims: Right bundle branch block (RBBB) and resulting right ventricular (RV) electromechanical discoordination are thought to play a role in the disease process of subpulmonary RV dysfunction that frequently occur post-repair tetralogy of Fallot (ToF). We sought to describe this disease entity, the role of pulmonary re-valvulation, and the potential added value of RV cardiac resynchronization therapy (RV-CRT).
Methods: Two patients with repaired ToF, complete RBBB, pulmonary regurgitation, and significantly decreased RV function underwent echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance, and an invasive study to evaluate the potential for RV-CRT as part of the management strategy.

Background: Amikacin monotherapy is recommended for urinary tract infection (UTI) treatment with multi-resistant pathogens. Even though amikacin efficacy in the treatment of UTIs is dependent on its urinary concentration, there are no robust data proving that sufficiently high urinary concentration is reached in patients with reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
Methods: A prospective study to monitor amikacin penetration into urine of 70 patients [40 males, median (interquartile range) age 70 (65-79) years] with different levels of glomerular filtration decline, including patients treated by dialysis, was conducted.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is a common endocrinopathy. Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 (MEN1) is a rare autosomal dominantly inherited endocrine tumor predisposition syndrome, with one of main manifestations being primary hyperparathyroidism. We retrospectively evaluated a set of 1011 patients who underwent surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism between the years 2018-2022, and found 78 (8 %) patients who underwent reoperations and 27 patients with MEN1 syndrome.

Background: Nutrition plays a vital role in the outcome of critically ill children, particularly those with AKI. Currently, there are no established guidelines for children with AKI treated with continuous RRT (CRRT). A thorough understanding of the metabolic changes and nutritional challenges in AKI and CRRT is required.

Purpose: The AIEOP-BFM ALL 2009 protocol included, at the end of the induction phase, a randomized study of patients with high-risk (HR) ALL to investigate if an intensive exposure to pegylated L-asparaginase (PEG-ASNASE, 2,500 IU/sqm once a week × 4) on top of BFM consolidation phase IB allowed us to decrease minimal residual disease (MRD) and improve outcome.
Patients And Methods: A total of 1,097 patients presented, from June 2010 to February 2017, with one or more of the following HR criteria: rearrangement, hypodiploidy, prednisone poor response, poor bone marrow response at day 15 (Flow MRD ≥10%), or no complete remission (CR) at the end of induction. Of them, 809 (85.

Background: In recent decades, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained prominence as a standard diagnostic method for preoperative assessment in patients with anorectal malformations and a colostomy, with the potential to replace the classic fluoroscopic distal pressure colostogram (FDPC). Three MRI techniques are available: MRI-distal pressure colostogram with gadolinium (MRI-DPCG) or saline (MRI-DPCS) instillation into the colostomy and native MRI without colostomy instillation.
Objective: To evaluate and compare the diagnostic accuracy of MRI (native MRI, MRI-DPCG and MRI-DPCS) in the preoperative workup of boys with an anorectal malformation and a colostomy and to compare it to FDPC.
