Laboratory of Physiopathology, Food and Biomolecules (LR-17-ES-03), Technology Center of Sidi Thabet, University of Manouba, 2020, Tunis, Tunisia.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic interstitial pneumonia that leads to acute lung damage, deterioration of lung function, and increased mortality risk. In this study, we investigated the effects of the orange coproduct extract (OCE) and the combination of pure hesperidin and oleuropein (HO) on an experimental model of pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin (BLM) in Wistar rats. Rats were divided into six groups: the control group (G1), the BLM group (G2), three groups (G3, G4, G5) receiving a single dose of BLM combined with OCE extract at 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg, and group 6 (G6) receiving a single dose of BLM combined with HO: both pure major phenolic compounds of OCE (hesperidin at 50 mg/kg) and olive leaves (oleuropein at 2.

Background: In Tunisia, the number of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) is increasing, owing to the increase in patient life expectancy and expanding indications. Despite their life-saving potential and a significant reduction in population morbidity and mortality, their increased numbers have been associated with the development of multiple early and late complications related to vascular access, pockets, leads, or patient characteristics.

Objective: The study aims to identify the rate, type, and predictors of complications occurring within the first year after CIED implantation.

Introduction: Mucinous ovarian carcinoma is often diagnosed early and can affect young patients. The preservation of the female reproductive organ is one of the critical issues, especially for nulliparous women. This case report aims to reconsider the safe outcome of fertility-sparing surgery for infiltrative type mucinous ovarian carcinoma.

Background: Since the latest 2017 French guidelines, knowledge about idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis has evolved considerably.

Methods: Practical guidelines were drafted on the initiative of the Coordinating Reference Center for Rare Pulmonary Diseases, led by the French Language Pulmonology Society (SPLF), by a coordinating group, a writing group, and a review group, with the involvement of the entire OrphaLung network, pulmonologists practicing in various settings, radiologists, pathologists, a general practitioner, a health manager, and a patient association. The method followed the "Clinical Practice Guidelines" process of the French National Authority for Health (HAS), including an online vote using a Likert scale.

Purpose: Intestinal ischemia (II) is the most critical factor to determine in patients with incarcerated groin hernia (IGH) because II could be reversible, and it is considered as a "time sensitive condition." Although predictive factors of II were identified in several previous studies, preoperative diagnosis of II cannot be reliably made or excluded by any known parameter. The aims of this study were: to devise and to validate a clinic-biologic score, with a strong discriminatory power, for predicting the risk of II in patients with IGH.

Background: A better understanding of pathological features and oncological survival in ypT0 rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy is required to improve patient selection criteria for rectal-preserving approach by local excision. Our aim was to define risk of lymph node metastasis and oncological outcomes in ypT0 rectal cancer after chemoradiotherapy and total mesorectal excision.

Methods: All consecutive patients who underwent total mesorectal excision for a nonmetastatic rectal adenocarcinoma classified ypT0 after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, with or without locoregional lymph node involvement (ypN+ or ypN-), in 14 French academic centers between 2002 and 2015 were included.

Vesico-vaginal fistula in Tunisia: Epidemiology and risk factors of treatment failure.

Prog Urol

December 2021

Urology Department, Charles Nicole Hospital, Faculty of Medecine of Tunis, University of Tunis, El Manar, Tunisia.

Introduction: Vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) is a global healthcare problem that has a high prevalence in developing countries. The aim of this work is to study the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic characteristics of VVF post-obstetric and gynecologic procedures in order to identify the predictive factors of surgical treatment failure.

Methods: Data were collected from 132 VVF patients in our institution between 1985 and 2017.

Background: Most cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are drug-induced. A small subset of cases remain with unknown aetiology (idiopathic epidermal necrolysis [IEN]).

Objective: We sought to better describe adult IEN and understand the aetiology.

The aims of this study are to investigate the preventive effect of flaxseed oil (FO) on bleomycin (BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis (PF). Thirty adult male Wistar rats (180-220 g) were randomly divided into three groups. The control group (G) received no treatment, the group (G) received only intratracheally BLM, and the group (G) received FO (2 mL/kg body weight) once a day for 60 days + BLM (4 mg/kg body weight "bw").

The relationship between telomere length and clinicopathologic characteristics in colorectal cancers among Tunisian patients.

Tumour Biol

November 2015

Human Genetics Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine of Tunis, 15 rue Djebel Lakdhar La Rabta, Tunis, 1007, Tunisia.

Alterations in telomere dynamics have emerged as having a causative role in carcinogenesis. Both the telomere attrition contribute to tumor initiation via increasing chromosomal instability and that the telomere elongation induces cell immortalization and leads to tumor progression. The objectives of this study are to investigate the dynamics of telomere length in colorectal cancer (CRC) and the clinicopathological parameters implicated.
